My name is Liu Yiwan... no, it's Liu Yiwan.

I asked the old man why other people's parents were with them, but where were my parents? The old man smiled and didn't say anything.

It was a rather cold season, and I had just woken up wearing only a coarse cloth. I vaguely remembered carving something on a wooden board before falling asleep, and I don't know why, but when I woke up I was in this place. There was a piece of cloth tucked beside me, with crooked writing on it. I saw a sedan chair approaching in the distance. I sat by the roadside watching it grow closer. The person in front of the sedan chair glanced at me and told me to stay away. The person inside said, "He's just a child. The servants always leave him a bowl of food at mealtimes." That's why the young master later named me Liu Yiwan.

Young Master Tang is a rather unreliable person; he's been a crybaby since he was little. Even though he's a boy, he often cries his eyes out in front of me, leaving me completely helpless. It's all thanks to him that I was allowed to stay in the manor. If he hadn't kept me, I probably would have been sent somewhere else.

A few days ago, the young master seemed to be possessed by something and went horseback riding with Young Master Zhang. Not long after, someone reported that he had disappeared on horseback, but was later found in the south of the city, far from the horse farm. There used to be a famous tofu shop in the south of the city, and when they found the young master, he was as limp as tofu. He had gone out upright in the morning, but I had to carry him back. I was terrified and rushed to find a doctor to examine him. The doctor took his pulse and said there was nothing seriously wrong. But after the young master woke up, he seemed not to recognize me, even praising my name, and complaining about his beloved purse. He then climbed over the wall to visit a brothel, after which he was punished by the master with family discipline…

Young Master Zhang went out again with the neighbor's son, Zhang Gongzi. When I saw him, he was standing in a haystack with a baby in his arms, and an old woman with an arrow piercing her abdomen was lying in front of him. I quickly threw two darts to repel the black-clad man with the arrow, and Young Master told me to take the baby back to the manor. The next day, Young Master gave me a jade pendant and asked me to go to Yunhai Pavilion to redeem a girl named Qin Jiujiu. Young Master, having just escaped death, is already thinking of a girl; he's in such good health!

"This humble servant greets you, young master," were Qin Jiujiu's first words to me. This woman was truly beautiful; her skin was as white as snow, and her features were exquisite. I was momentarily captivated by her beauty. She softly asked what business she had with me. After I showed her the jade pendant engraved with her name and told her I had come to redeem her from her servitude, her sudden tears sent a shiver down my spine. For a while afterward, I pondered why this was, as I had never felt this way before.

And so, I brought Miss Qin back to the manor, suppressing my doubts, and prepared to go back to my room to change into clean clothes. I overheard the maids coming from the direction of the main hall talking about the woodshed; it seemed the young master intended to give my room to the young lady. I hurried to the main hall, and when Miss Qin said she and her brother would be fine together, I felt completely relieved. It wasn't that I didn't want to give the room to the young lady, but the woodshed was dry, and I'm prone to getting a sore throat. Dry firewood meeting my sore throat… well… it was for the safety of the manor, not that I didn't want to sleep in the woodshed, no, that's not it!
