When Shen Zhiyi woke up, it was already midnight.
The cool moonlight shone in through the window, illuminating the eyes and brows of the person beside me.
Gu Lianzhou sat on the edge of the bed, his head resting on her arm, one hand around her waist, the other holding her hand, seemingly already asleep.
His once sharp and piercing features now appeared somewhat weary under the moonlight.
Shen Zhiyi moved her fingers that were being held.
Gu Lianzhou immediately opened his eyes.
"Xiaoyi! You're awake?!" He leaned over, touched her forehead, and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that her fever had subsided.
Is there anything else that's bothering you?
His fingertips slid down her eyebrows and eyes, cupped half of her cheek, and gently caressed it.
Treat it as if it were a precious treasure.
Shen Zhiyi stared at him for a long time without saying anything. She simply withdrew her hand and turned her head to the side to avoid his touch.
"I don't need you to worry about me."
Gu Lianzhou's hand froze in mid-air, his lips pressed into a straight line, and his eyes dimmed.
Are you still angry with your brother?
Shen Zhiyi used her elbows to prop herself up and sit up with difficulty. "Who do you think you are, my brother?"
She threw back the covers and was about to get out of bed.
Gu Lianzhou grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?"
Shen Zhiyi glanced at him quickly, then turned her head away, "Anyway, I'm not staying here."
"No one here welcomes me, and no one believes me."
"I'm not going to stay here and be a nuisance."
Gu Lianzhou was heartbroken when he heard her self-deprecating words.
He grabbed her hand and started hitting himself on the face, head, and body.
"What are you doing?!" Shen Zhiyi was startled and tried to pull her hand back, but he held her wrist tightly.
He bent down and hugged her waist, saying, "It's all my fault."
"sorry."
"From now on, I will never distrust you again, and I will never let you get wet in the rain again."
His voice choked with emotion, and his broad body trembled slightly in her arms.
"Xiao Yi, hit me."
"I'll do anything to help you vent your anger and forgive your brother."
With such pure and innocent nature, what bad intentions could she possibly have?
He always viewed everything that happened between them with suspicion and distrust, speculating about her, misunderstanding her, and hurting her.
Her illness is all thanks to him.
Gu Lianzhou pressed close to her.
Regret only brings suffering.
Her clothes were soaked with the tears that rolled down her cheeks.
Shen Zhiyi was slightly taken aback.
She bit her lip, reached out, and gently touched his hair.
"You...you get up..."
"Unless Xiaoyi says she forgives me." Gu Lianzhou said this, and even he found it unbelievable.
When did he become such a shameless and persistent person?
He clearly doesn't care what anyone thinks of him, and he would never beg someone so humbly.
He closed his eyes, as if he couldn't believe it.
But he held her even tighter.
"Gu Lianzhou, you're a scoundrel," Shen Zhiyi accused in a low voice.
"Hmm." Gu Lianzhou's heart melted. "I'm a scoundrel, despicable, selfish, greedy, and blind."
"Will Xiaoyi forgive me?"
Shen Zhiyi huffed and said, "You've made yourself sound so bad, why should I forgive you?"
She cursed at him a few times.
She even reached out and, as if still not satisfied, tugged at his hair twice.
Gu Lianzhou, however, felt a sense of comfort in his heart.
At least, she was still full of energy for him, unlike when she first woke up, when she was so indifferent that she wouldn't look at him, touch him, or say a word to him.
His hand, which was holding her waist, slowly moved upwards, gently stroking along her spine. With the force of his press, he laid her down on the bed.
He braced his arms on either side of her body and leaned down to look at her.
His gaze was full of longing, and his heart was brimming with tenderness.
"It's fine if you don't forgive me."
"Lie down and rest obediently, take your medicine obediently, and wait until you get better before you get angry with me."
“My brother is right here.”
"You can hit me or yell at me whenever you want."
"The prerequisite is that you need to have the strength, right?"
He spoke gently.
And he was very close to her.
