Shen Zhiyi felt the dampness in his palm.
Let go of him.
He took his phone out of his bag, turned on the flashlight, and shone it in front of him.
"Chi Wangye, I've turned on the light."
She gripped his hand again. "I want to walk close to you and talk to you, okay?"
"This place is really a bit scary."
"Boss!" she suddenly yelled, "Can you turn off the music? I'm going to cry!"
The boss noticed something was off about Chi Wangye on the monitor and quickly turned off the sound effects.
Shen Zhiyi pulled him along.
In the dim light of the flashlight, I slowly walked towards the door.
Chi Wangye stared blankly.
In the complete darkness, a faint, flickering point of light could be seen.
Everything was captured in that slender figure from behind.
She led him out of the dark passageway.
Until the door at the end opened, letting in dazzling, glaring sunlight.
He squinted.
I looked at her through the gaps between my fingers.
Shen Zhiyi turned around, her whole body bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, standing in front of him with a radiant smile.
"We're out!"
Chi Wangye's gaze slowly focused, lingering on her pearly teeth, and his heart suddenly skipped a beat.
His light.
So this is how dazzling it is.
He took her hand, pulled her close, and held her tightly in his arms.
"Shen Xiaoyi..."
Several words swirled in his throat, but he didn't know what to say.
He just held her tightly.
Chi Wangye closed his eyes, buried his head in her neck, and smelled her scent, which intertwined with his own.
It's all her, and the marks she likes.
He thought.
He was willing to do this, to paint himself in her favorite color from then on.
even.
It doesn't matter if she gets herself dirty.
Shen Zhiyi hugged him and patted his back.
"You were scared too, weren't you?"
The crowds coming and going, countless eyes were on them.
They showed absolutely no remorse.
They simply embraced each other, exchanging strength.
Shen Zhiyi glanced at the distance and patted Chi Wangye, "Look, there's a rice wine shop over there."
"I've heard that drinking rice wine can ward off evil spirits."
She took Chi Wangye's hand and led him to the riverbank, where she pressed him down onto the only empty bench.
"Wait here for me a moment, I'll go buy a bottle of Shaoxing wine, and then we can go boating together, okay?"
Chi Wangye raised his eyes.
Look at the small boats swaying gently on the riverbank.
He nodded.
He stared blankly as Shen Zhiyi ran away and stood in front of the rice wine shop, talking to the owner.
His expression was subdued.
The phone rang.
When Chi Wangye saw the caller ID, his relaxed expression instantly tensed up again.
"Hello."
"Why did it take you so long to answer?" A deep, middle-aged male voice came from the other end of the line, accusingly reprimanding, "The nanny said you haven't been home for months. Do you even care about me, your father?!"
Chi Wangye sneered.
“I haven’t been home for months, and the nanny has to tell you that.”
"You're quite a good father."
"Chi Wangye!" he roared, "You've learned nothing good but talking back to me!
"I'm not home because I'm busy with my career. What about you? What are you doing?"
"If you don't study hard, you'll achieve nothing and just waste your days like a spoiled brat."
"I spent so much money sending you to school, and all you've learned is to swear?"
"How could I have given birth to a son like you!"
The paleness on Chi Wangye's face had not yet faded when he heard these words, and a cold smile appeared on his lips.
"Yes, I gave birth to children, but no one raised me."
"Isn't it normal for someone to grow up to be a useless person?"
The other side suddenly fell silent.
Chi Wangye found it extremely boring.
He hung up the phone.
His eyes were vacant as he stared at the desolate river.
If he hadn't been so playful and come home so late, his mother wouldn't have died despite all efforts to save her...
It's all his fault.
If only we had discovered she had taken so many sleeping pills sooner... we could have taken her to the hospital for a stomach lavage...
Perhaps... she wouldn't have to die...
He got up in a daze and walked towards the river.
The river, shimmering in the setting sun, casts a dappled, illusory pattern, like a gigantic maw with countless teeth, clamoring to devour him...
"Chi Wangye!"
Someone suddenly patted me on the back.
Chi Wangye suddenly came to his senses.
Turning around, I saw Shen Zhiyi carrying a bottle of rice wine.
In her other hand, she was carrying a bag of food.
"What are you doing here?" She pointed in the other direction. "The boat is over there."
Chi Wangye opened his lips.
Shen Zhiyi didn't say anything and handed him the rice wine.
Then, taking his free hand, they walked towards the ticket office.
“I paid for the rice wine and snacks, so you can buy the boat tickets.” She rambled on, “Go tell the ticket seller that we want the longest night tickets.”
"Two tickets. Get off at the westernmost dock from this end. Don't get it wrong."
She pushed him toward the front desk, saying, "Go ahead."
She stood there, watching as Chi Wangye finally spoke to the people at the ticket counter.
His gaze gradually softened.
He bought tickets and boarded the ship with Shen Zhiyi.
The boatman is at the front, steering the boat.
They sat in the inner cabin.
Shen Zhiyi took out a small cup and poured some rice wine for him.
"Here, drink this cup, and all bad things will disappear."
Chi Manye laughed.
