Li Heng took the high-speed train home the next day.
He opened the door and was immediately hit by a strong smell of alcohol and the sour stench of rotting garbage.
He frowned and stepped into the place he called "home".
The room was a complete mess.
Several empty wine bottles lay askew on the ground, and takeout containers, piled up on the table for who knows how long, were covered in solidified grease, attracting a few small insects.
Li Heng watched all of this with a blank expression.
Silently, he rolled up his sleeves and began cleaning.
He tied the garbage bag tightly and gathered the bottles together, his movements mechanical and practiced, as if he had done it millions of times.
He pushed open the bedroom door.
The curtains were drawn, and the room was dimly lit.
He glanced over with a cold gaze and, sure enough, saw Li Changgui, drunk and asleep, behind the curtains in the far corner.
His father.
The moment Li Heng saw him, he felt like he was the same as that puddle of vomit on the ground; even if it was cleaned up, it would still rot from his soul.
Li Changgui was awakened by the noise.
His cloudy eyes struggled to move, but the moment they saw Li Heng, they suddenly gleamed with a terrifying light.
"Son! Good son! Tell your father quickly, have you made any money lately?!" He staggered forward, his withered fingers eagerly grabbing at Li Heng's pocket. "How much? Take it all out! Give it to your father now!"
Li Heng pushed him away in disgust.
He took two steps back and said coldly, "I have no money."
Li Changgui stumbled and fell to the ground.
"No money?"
He paused for a moment, then raised his swollen and bluish face.
Upon closer inspection, Li Changgui's facial features can actually be described as handsome.
Because of long-term alcoholism and irregular sleep patterns, his face looked haggard and thin, his lips were pale, and his hair, eyebrows, and beard were all messy.
His eyes gleamed with a greedy, ferocious light.
His gaze suddenly fixed on Li Heng's wrist and trouser pocket.
"You have no money?!" The voice suddenly became shrill and piercing. "Then what is this?! Such an expensive watch! And a new cell phone! You dare to lie to me?!"
He frantically scanned his surroundings, then suddenly grabbed an empty wine bottle from beside him and smashed it violently at Li Heng with a ferocious expression!
Li Heng dodged to the side, instinctively reaching out to cover his face.
He then gripped his watch tightly.
"Crackâ!"
The bottle shattered at his feet, shards flying everywhere. A sharp pain ripped across his arm, and blood quickly seeped out.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Li Changgui charged forward like a wild beast!
"You ungrateful wretch! I raised you with all my might and sent you to university, and all you do is eat and drink well outside, using brand-name phones and wearing such expensive watches!"
"Where am I?! I'm getting beaten up by debt collectors at home every day!"
"How could I have given birth to such an unfilial beast!"
He roared, grabbed Li Heng's bleeding arm wound, and ripped it downwards!
Taking advantage of his loss of balance due to pain, another fist slammed heavily into his cheek!
Li Heng suddenly veered towards the living room, staggered a few steps, and fell to the floor.
The glasses flew off.
The wound on my arm was excruciatingly painful, and the bruise quickly spread.
Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, and he pressed his tongue against his cheek, tasting a strong metallic flavor.
Strands of hair fell down, obscuring the turbulent emotions surging in his eyes.
He did not resist.
It's because he knows he won't stay here forever.
Poverty, violence, suffering... he won't always associate with these words.
And his father...
Li Heng reached out, fumbled for his glasses, and put them back on.
Turning around, I saw Li Changgui, his face contorted with rage and reeking of alcohol. On his face, I saw endless stupidity, ignorance, greed, and hopelessness.
Once he escapes this hell, he won't save him.
He will watch his father struggle forever in the abyss.
And consider the beatings he received as the price he paid in return.
"Speak up, you beast!" Enraged by the cold, mocking gaze, Li Changgui roared, "Where the hell did you hide the money?!"
Li Heng sneered.
"say what?"
"I've already told you I have no money."
"Do I have to repeat it to you again? How did you painstakingly raise me with your fists? You gambled away all my scholarship money, almost causing me to drop out of school?"
"Or do you want to hear how you left me outside to stop the debt collectors when they came to your door, and then hid yourself?"
"Li Changgui, you are such a good father."
Li Heng smiled.
The wound on his lip was painful, but he was already numb to it.
Enraged, Li Changgui lunged at him, roaring, "You won't give it to me, huh?"
"I'll take it myself!"
This watch and this phone, I can sell them for money!
With money, he can turn things around!
A genuine panic finally flashed across Li Heng's eyes. He abruptly wrapped his arms tightly around himself, blocking the watch.
He had promised her.
I will never take off this watch, no matter what.
It's even more impossible for it to be stolen!
Li Changgui's eyes darted around, and he turned fiercely to reach into his pocket for his cell phone!
Li Heng tried to push him away with his shoulder, but couldn't budge him, so he simply reached out and punched him hard!
He snatched the phone back and hid it in his pocket.
Li Changgui was stunned by the sudden punch and fell to the ground sprawled out, staring at the ceiling in disbelief.
This was the first time Li Heng had fought back.
He froze for a moment, then suddenly rolled over and got up, his eyes flashing with ferocity as he went completely mad.
"You've gone too far!"
"You little brat, you dare hit your father! I'll fucking beat you to death today!"
