Duan Xingzhi walked outside, then stopped.
Who she's with and what she's looking at is none of his business.
He turned and left with a sour expression.
He avoided everyone.
He was sullen for almost the entire day, and his aura was frighteningly cold.
It wasn't until dusk that Shen Zhiyi found him by the river.
"What are you doing hiding here?" she asked breathlessly, clutching her knees. "I've been looking for you all day."
"Looking for me?" Duan Xingzhi pursed his lips, his cold eyes fixed on her slightly parted, crimson mouth.
In just a moment, it moved away quickly.
"What is it?"
He threw the pebble in his hand straight into the river, his tone cold.
The pebble bounced several times, creating ripples.
Shen Zhiyi straightened up and said in a clear voice, "I asked Apan to help me find someone and made you some clothes. Come back with me and let's take a look?"
He has been dressed very simply these days.
Most of the clothes were borrowed.
He would be staying here for over a month, and it wouldn't be right for him to keep wearing other people's clothes.
Duan Xingzhi froze, then suddenly turned to look at her.
The golden sunlight draped over her like a thin veil, making her appear like a goddess.
He stood frozen in place, his heart leaping in his throat.
"You... what he wants to see is my clothes?"
He took a step closer, his gaze locking onto her like that of a hawk, allowing her no chance to flinch.
"Clothes made especially for me?"
"Hmm." Shen Zhiyi subconsciously took a step back and nodded slightly. "But I don't know if you'll like it. I just picked out the pattern and fabric on the spot."
Duan Xingzhi abruptly turned his face away and looked at the lake.
A fish suddenly leaped out of the water, shattering the calm and splashing up waves.
A very slight smile curved his thin lips.
His voice, however, was deliberately calm and deep. He said, "It's just clothes. I'm not particular about them. As long as I have something to wear, that's fine."
After saying that, he turned around and stared at her intently.
"What you chose must be good."
Shen Zhiyi was slightly taken aback by his blunt words, and subconsciously tilted her head towards the pharmacy. "Then... let's go back and try it?"
"Um."
The setting sun cast long shadows of them.
Duan Xingzhi followed behind her, his expression unreadable, but his steps remained close, very close to hers.
...
The next morning.
As soon as Shen Zhiyi woke up, she prepared to go to the courtyard to tend to the medicinal herbs.
As soon as I opened the door, I saw Duan Xingzhi sitting with his arms crossed next to the stone table in the courtyard, his body still covered in morning dew.
"Awake?" He sat up and stared intently at her.
Its jet-black pupils shone with an astonishing brightness.
Shen Zhiyi glanced at the barely brightening sky...
How long has he been here?
Did they get up before dawn?
Her gaze fell back on him, and she noticed that he was wearing a dark-colored outfit.
It was one of the clothes she had ordered for him.
The pure black perfectly outlined his tall and straight figure, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs; every line was clean and sharp.
He simply stood there, yet he exuded an aura that even the deepest darkness could not conceal. The intense pressure and overwhelming hormonal scent were inescapable.
His cold, hard features appeared even more striking against the backdrop of the ink.
Yet, a glimmer of morning light flickered in his eyes.
Shen Zhiyi forgot to breathe for a moment.
She knew he had a great physique, but she never imagined he would suit black so well.
Her gaze fell on his slightly loose belt. She took a step forward, her fingertips touching the dark buckle, and tightened it slightly.
"It's... a little loose here."
She tilted her head back, looked at him quietly, and then tightened her grip a little more. "Is this okay?"
The morning light illuminated her features.
Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and her fair, jade-like face was tinged with a blush from the early morning.
She just stared at him intently.
Duan Xingzhi's chest tightened along with his belt.
He smelled her unique scent, untouched by the medicinal fragrance, emanating from her.
It has a sweet, cloying gardenia scent.
His eyes darkened suddenly, and his Adam's apple bobbed.
After a moment of silence, he said in a low, hoarse voice, "Okay."
“However…” Duan Xingzhi’s gaze fell, staring at Shen Zhiyi’s hand still resting on his belt, a smile playing in his eyes, “How long are you going to keep touching me?”
They were extremely close. He leaned down slightly, as if to embrace her completely, their breaths mingling softly.
Shen Zhiyi's cheeks flushed, and she quickly withdrew her hand.
"Dr. Shen!" A sudden, urgent knocking sound came from outside the courtyard gate. "Dr. Shen! Please come out and take a look!"
Shen Zhiyi and Duan Xingzhi exchanged a glance, then immediately turned to open the door.
Outside the door, several young men were supporting the injured Apan.
The person is already unconscious.
His body was covered in blood.
What happened?
Shen Zhiyi was shocked when she saw the blurry, bloody flesh on Apan's arms and thighs.
"Quick! Carry him inside!"
As the group of young men carried the animal, they said anxiously, "A ferocious beast appeared in Fuling Valley yesterday! Apan ran into it while hunting and tried to tame it, but he ended up being bitten like this!"
"Before he lost consciousness, he said that the beast was very likely to come down the mountain, and I had to go to the village chief and ask him to find a way to deal with it as soon as possible."
After the young man finished speaking, he put Ah Pan down and left in a hurry.
"You all go out first, I'll help him treat his wounds," Shen Zhiyi said to the remaining youths.
They left one after another.
Duan Xingzhi watched as she cut open the cloth covering Apan's wound, carefully cleaning the injury and gently pressing on the unblemished areas.
A sudden tightness in my chest.
"I'll stay here and help."
