Shen Zhiyi blushed involuntarily when she met his burning gaze.
"good."
She lowered her eyelashes and softly replied, "Let's get married."
There weren't many things in Yun Shen Village, so they couldn't have a grand wedding, but Duan Xingzhi remembered Teng Erniang's instructions and prepared a rough outline of what was needed for the wedding.
It's quite comprehensive and thoughtful.
Duan Xingzhi was busy in the village for several days.
They dug secret tunnels, set up traps, and distributed silver notes to everyone.
He also instructed the village chief not to open the valley easily in the future unless there are special circumstances.
In every single thing he did, he seemed to have everyone's best interests at heart.
The villagers' opinion of him completely changed.
"I used to think Yan Nu was a gigolo who freeloaded at Doctor Shen's place all day long, but I never expected him to be so rich."
Everyone gathered at the village entrance, marveling at the mechanism he had created. "He's got a sharp mind, both brave and resourceful. We underestimated him."
Seeing Duan Xingzhi busy himself taking care of Shen Zhiyi, Ah Pan gradually felt relieved, his bitterness turning into relief.
In terms of dedication, he was indeed inferior to Yan Nu.
Especially Dr. Shen, these days his face has shown many expressions he had never seen before.
Even some of the shy, girlish mannerisms.
It can't be hidden no matter what.
Perhaps she herself did not realize that her treatment of Yan Nu was different from that of others.
In that case, he was willing to wish them well.
Only Xiao Ding, hugging the ancient tree in the village, sighed: "This Yan Nu was really tricked away by Doctor Shen!"
Indeed, it's easy for a woman to pursue a man.
She must have come to the Yue Lao Temple before to wish for marriage with Yan Nu!
He said this tree was very powerful!
If such an outrageous wish as consummating one's marriage could come true, then he figured wishing for overnight riches shouldn't be a problem either.
On the day the secret chamber in the village was completed, every household hung up red lanterns and began preparing for the wedding of Shen Zhiyi and Duan Xingzhi.
Teng Erniang put in a lot of effort.
She never expected that the man was actually so powerful that he would use so much gold and silver to marry Doctor Shen.
She had worried for nothing.
Duan Xingzhi was very generous and gave her a large red envelope, saying he wanted her to be his matchmaker and help guide him through the intricate procedures of the wedding.
Teng Erniang was so happy she couldn't stop smiling.
She helped Shen Zhiyi with her hair and makeup, and dressed her in the phoenix coronet and wedding gown that Duan Xingzhi had found.
I couldn't help but sigh with emotion.
"Oh my, she's like a celestial maiden descended to earth." She circled around Shen Zhiyi, her expression one of amazement. "That boy Yan Nu is truly blessed."
She went out of the valley once with the village chief.
Even those who went to the palace to become empresses were not as good as Doctor Shen.
Shen Zhiyi's face was made more beautiful by the red makeup, and she lost her usual coldness. She smiled and said, "Second Aunt is joking."
"Let's go out, lest we miss the auspicious time."
Teng Erniang covered her face with her handkerchief and laughed even more heartily, "I thought it was Yan Nu who couldn't wait to marry you, but I didn't expect Doctor Shen to be so impatient as well."
"Second Aunt!" Shen Zhiyi blushed.
Teng Erniang smiled as she helped her cover her head with the veil. Looking through the window, she saw Duan Xingzhi waiting anxiously outside. She covered her face with her handkerchief and chuckled to herself before leading Shen Zhiyi out the door.
"Let's go, don't keep the groom waiting."
When Duan Xingzhi saw the person come out, the cold and tense lines on his face immediately softened.
"Ayi." He took the red silk ribbon and heard Shen Zhiyi give a soft "hmm." Only then did he feel relieved, and a rare look of joy appeared on his face.
He led her slowly through the courtyard and into the main house.
As dusk fell.
The whole village gathered in the medicine hall, and Teng Erniang, as a witness, smiled so much that the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes deepened.
"First bow to Heaven and Earth—"
Duan Xingzhi pulled the red ribbon, and together with Shen Zhiyi, turned to face the vast night sky and bowed deeply.
He had never believed in heaven and earth before, but at this moment, he was deeply grateful.
He was grateful to God for sending her to his side.
I am grateful for all of this, even for Qin Feng's betrayal.
He felt that all the pain he had suffered in the first half of his life seemed to come to an end at this moment, and that it all became meaningful because of her.
"Second bow to the parents—"
They were all orphans.
Shen Zhiyi placed her master's memorial tablet in the main hall, which could be considered as a testament to their virtues in this deep valley.
Her eyes welled up with tears, and she and Duan Xingzhi respectfully bowed to the memorial tablet.
"Husband and wife bow to each other—"
The two turned around, both nervously holding onto the red ribbon.
As they bent down, they smelled a comforting scent emanating from each other, and both couldn't help but smile.
"Ayi, I've married you." He whispered in her ear.
Even through the veil, Shen Zhiyi could almost feel his burning breath, and his fervent affection, gently warming her.
A blush instantly spread across her face.
"The ceremony is complete—"
Amidst the cheers of the villagers, they walked together toward the wedding house.
Halfway there, Duan Xingzhi suddenly reached out, picked up Shen Zhiyi, and strode forward.
They left behind a string of screams and amusing laughter.
Shen Zhiyi nestled shyly in his arms, burying her face like a quail.
The veil isolates a world from the outside world.
All the noise was quickly left behind by his footsteps, leaving only his increasingly clear heartbeat pounding in her ear.
The sound was deafening.
Duan Xingzhi closed the door, gently placed her on the soft quilt, picked up the wedding scale, and lifted the veil.
The red candles burned brightly, reflecting in her clear, bright eyes, making her radiant face even more breathtaking.
Duan Xingzhi's heartbeat gradually quickened.
He turned around, brought over two cups of nuptial wine from the table, sat down next to her, and handed her one of the cups.
