Chapter 30 New Delhi

I frowned slightly when I heard Wei Shengnan's words.

I am not clear about this history, but judging from her words, my father seems to be the culprit who caused the four families to break apart.

"Shengnan! That's enough!"

Old Master Wei slammed his hand on the table: "This is a matter of the previous generation, and it's not your place to comment! What Duan Jinyan did should not be the responsibility of his son! The Demon Monk's Tomb is of great importance, and it cannot be touched without the descendants of the four sects all gathered together. Don't you understand this principle?"

Wei Shengnan snorted coldly and turned her face away, remaining silent.

Grandpa Wei looked at me with some guilt: "Shenxing, Shengnan is the only child in the fourth generation of my Wei family. She has been spoiled by us since she was a child. Don't take it to heart."

Seeing Grandpa Wei apologize, I quickly stood up and replied in a very polite tone, "Grandpa Wei, you're too kind. I'm a man, how could I hold a grudge against a girl? Besides, you and Grandma Wei are both old friends of my grandfather. For my grandfather's sake, I have to help you with this."

My statement was merely an excuse.

From what Wei Shengnan just said, I realized that this young girl has a fiery temper and seems to know something about my father's situation.

After hearing her say that my father killed so many people, I became even more eager to know the details. Compared to the cunning and scheming Old Master Wei, Wei Shengnan was a better candidate for me to uncover the truth.

Grandpa Wei looked at me with satisfaction: "Good, it's settled then. Shengnan will represent the Wei family and go to India with you."

I didn't argue with Wei Shengnan: "I can go, but this time I have to bring the monkey with me."

Old Master Wei did not object, and said to Wei Shengnan, "Shengnan, this is a matter of great importance, you must not act impulsively. This time when you go to find that demonic monk's tomb, you must protect Duan Shenxing. We must not let the Duan family's bloodline be cut off because of the Wei family's affairs, understand?"

Wei Shengnan glanced at me, but finally gave in to Grandpa Wei: "I understand, Grandpa."

...

The Wei family acted quickly; in just three days, they notified me that my passport had been processed and that I should pick it up and prepare to leave the country the next day.

Monkey and I had never been abroad before, so although this trip was nerve-wracking, it was also quite exciting.

After arriving at the airport at the agreed time, I was joking with Monkey when I caught a glimpse of Wei Shengnan at the airport entrance out of the corner of my eye.

Wei Shengnan is the kind of woman who shines wherever she is. Accompanied by four bodyguards, she looks like a popular actress.

Although we had a falling out a few days ago, I was still counting on getting information about my father out of her, so when I saw her, I took the initiative to go over and greet her: "Hello, Ms. Wei!"

Wei Shengnan gave me a disgruntled look: "Is there something you need?"

I was taken aback by Wei Shengnan's words: "Didn't we agree to go to Beijing together and then transfer to a flight to New Delhi?"

Wei Shengnan continued walking forward without stopping: "We do have a common goal this time, but we are not friends. There is no need to communicate except when we are working."

I knew Wei Shengnan had a bad temper, but people with fiery tempers are generally straightforward. I came with a purpose and didn't show any emotional fluctuation because of her sarcasm: "Ms. Wei, we've never met before, so there's no need for you to be so hostile towards me."

"All my knowledge and skills were taught by my second uncle. My father was in the army from the time I was born, and my second uncle raised me. To me, he is the closest person to me."

When Wei Shengnan said these words to me, her eyes were red-rimmed, and her gaze was so fierce it seemed she wanted to devour me whole: "If it weren't for your father, my second uncle would still be perfectly fine! Instead of going from being a genius praised by everyone in that circle to a useless person who locks himself in a dark room all day long!"

Seeing that Wei Shengnan was getting emotional, I pressed on, "You keep saying that my father harmed your second uncle, but what exactly did he do?"

"I'm searching for the evil monk's tomb to save my grandmother, and you're after money. We're just getting what we need."

Wei Shengnan looked at me coldly: "I know what you're up to. Don't try to trick me into saying anything! You were right about something just now: we're complete strangers, there's no need for us to get to know each other well!"

As we spoke, Wei Shengnan, accompanied by four bodyguards, walked into the first-class security checkpoint. I called out to her again, "Hey..."

Wei Shengnan turned around, her gaze now filled with impatience: "Are you never going to stop?"

I saw Wei Shengnan's bodyguard start checking everyone's ID cards and plane tickets, then pointed to the ticket counter and said, "No, you haven't given me my ticket yet!"

"Didn't you get paid?" Wei Shengnan said coldly, "Keep your itinerary and tickets. After you finish this business, go to the finance department of Changwei Group for reimbursement. You can only travel in economy class and second class. Other tickets will not be reimbursed. Don't bother me again!"

As soon as she finished speaking, her figure disappeared at the entrance of the security checkpoint.

"Hey! Did this woman grow up eating firecrackers? She's pretty, but her words are so unpleasant!"

Monkey, overhearing my conversation with Lu Shengnan, was indignant but also curious: "Young Master Duan, did that woman mention your father just now? You still have a father?"

I glanced at the monkey sideways: "You don't have a dad? Did you spring out of a rock?"

"That's not what I meant. We've been playing together since we were kids, and I've never seen your dad before!"

The monkey realized he had misspoke and grinned, "Don't let that woman ruin your mood. Let's go book our tickets first, so we don't miss our flight!"

My intention in greeting Wei Shengnan was to take this opportunity to get closer to her, gradually become familiar with her, and find out about my father.

However, through our interaction just now, I realized that Wei Shengnan is not the kind of woman who is all looks and no brains. Simply using reverse psychology won't work when dealing with her.

In this situation, I didn't try to win her over. When I boarded the plane, she was already sitting in first class. This time, I just passed by her without even saying hello.

After more than ten hours of travel, the plane landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, India.

When Monkey and I arrived at the exit, Wei Shengnan had already left through the VIP passage.

This is my first time traveling abroad. Seeing the endless stream of foreigners at the airport, I felt quite unfamiliar and a little lost for a moment.

A burly young man who was walking beside her saw me and came over to greet me: "Hello Mr. Duan, our car is ready, please follow me."

I chuckled to myself, remembering what Wei Shengnan had said earlier: "So you guys even prepared a car for me. I thought I'd have to take the bus!"

"Mr. Duan is joking. Before I left, the boss told me that the young lady has a bad temper and asked me to take good care of you."

The young man extended his hand to me: "My name is Xu Hu, you can just call me Hu Zi. If you need anything on the way, you can let me know."

Although Wei Shengnan's attitude towards me was very bad, according to her, our Duan family did indeed owe her something. I didn't know what my father had done, so I didn't have much of a reaction. Seeing Xu Hu being so polite, I shook hands with him and asked, "Are all four of you Wei Shengnan's bodyguards?"

"To be precise, we are disciples of the Wei family, and we learn the art of exorcising demons and protecting the righteous path."

Xu Hu smiled and explained to me, "Among the four gates, the winding path to seclusion, the money-bringing boy, and the magic eye for divination are all family traditions. The Wei family needs to protect the four gates, so they have more people. Of the four of us, three are members of the Wei family, and the other is a translator who understands Hindi."

I'm relatively unfamiliar with the Four Gates and need to get to know them better, so I changed the subject and asked, "Where are we going next?"

Xu Hu gestured for me to follow him out of the airport: "Let's meet the Song family first; he's at the Taj Mahal Hotel."
