Chapter 259 You Have a Conscience
Luo took the jewelry box in his hand, opened the lid and looked at it carefully, and a look of satisfaction appeared on his old face.
"Alan." He greeted.
"Why--"
After a distant response, the little girl with the bun-shaped hair came running out, took out a piece of black paper inlaid with gold from her bosom, and handed it to Luo, "Dad."
Luo took the paper and touched Alan's head.
The little girl ran away again.
Qi Huang and Ling Shuo looked at Alan's back as he danced away with complicated expressions, and they shuddered at the same time.
"List of items at the Gold Diamond Auction House."
Luo casually handed the paper to Cheng Yi, closed his drooping eyelids again, leaned back in the rocking chair, and refilled his pipe with tobacco.
Cheng Yi took the paper, but didn't rush to read it. Instead, he handed it to Ling Shuo behind him.
Luo was a little surprised and looked at him lazily, "Don't you want to take a look?"
Cheng Yi smiled faintly, "I believe the news you gave me. There's no rush to go back and check it out."
Luo drooped his lips and glanced at Cheng Yi with a look that said, "Just pretend!" "When did you become so good at talking, kid?"
Cheng Yi raised his eyebrows, "It's just the truth, anyone can tell it."
"Hahaha..." Luo laughed so hard that his shrunken body began to shake. He picked up his long pipe and nodded at Cheng Yi's head, "Slippery boy."
Luo withdrew his pipe and took two shallow puffs. "How is Old Yue's apprentice?"
"Thanks for your concern, Dad. She's doing fine."
Cheng Yi dragged the wooden armchair next to him and sat in front of the counter, looking like he was ready for a long talk.
Luo reached into the counter and took out a short pipe with a jade mouthpiece. He placed it on the table and knocked it hard twice. Then he squinted his eyes hard to make sure the flue was not blocked.
"Take a puff." He handed the pipe to Cheng Yi.
Cheng Yi took the pipe and chuckled, "I didn't expect you still have this?"
He took the tobacco box from the bar, grabbed two pinches and stuffed them in, pressed them down, and struck a match to light it.
The movements are done in one go, clean and neat.
Luo narrowed his eyes and rocked back and forth in his rocking chair. "You still remember after not smoking for so many years?"
"I feel it," Cheng Yi pinched the pipe in his palm and examined it carefully. "Dad, are you blaming me for not visiting you for so many years?"
Luo did not answer, but took out two more pipes from the box and handed them to Qi Huang.
"The two guys at the back."
"..." Qi Huang and Ling Shuo looked at each other, not knowing what to do.
"Go on." Cheng Yi said calmly.
Qi Huang took a step forward and took the pipe from Luo with both hands, "Thank you, Mr. Luo..."
Luo knocked Qi Huang on the head and scolded him, "Call me daddy."
Qi Huang's face twitched in pain, and he replied awkwardly, "...Thank you, Dad."
Luo sat back in his chair with satisfaction after hearing Qi Huang's address. He began to answer Cheng Yi's words, "I don't have many years left to live. The more we see each other, the less we'll see each other. If you kids don't come back to visit me, I might end up in some stray dog's belly next time."
Cheng Yi took two puffs of his pipe and frowned. This old man was smoking more and more vigorously.
"Don't worry, Dad. I will definitely come to see you off to the grave when the time comes. I won't let you be taken away by wild dogs."
“Hahahahahahahahahaha——”
When Luo heard Cheng Yi's words, he let out a long howl.
The joy in that laughter didn't seem fake.
Cheng Yi picked up the pipe and scooped out half of the tobacco. The smell was too strong and he could hardly smoke it.
"If you leave, who will take care of Hermes in the future?"
Luo was relieved, rocking his head in the rocking chair, seemingly enjoying himself. "That's not something a dead man like me should be concerned about."
Then, Luo suddenly thought of something and sat up from the rocking chair. "Lanson told me that you found a woman?"
Cheng Yi nodded, "Yeah."
Luo's white eyes lit up, "Did you bring it?"
"Of course," Cheng Yi responded with a smile, "Dad will be able to see it at the auction tomorrow."
Luo nodded with satisfaction, "It seems that dying two years later is beneficial."
Cheng Yi laughed helplessly to himself, "Lan Sen sold me out really quickly."
"He's always been a bit of a bum," Luo said, lying in the rocking chair with his eyes closed as if he was asleep. "He even told me that you and Rex finally started a fight?"
Cheng Yi replied: "Still testing."
"Rex won't be attending the auction tomorrow, but a representative from the L family will be there, and they'll probably compete with you for it."
Cheng Yi was not surprised by Luo's news. This biennial Hermes gathering could be called a global underworld gathering. All the prominent gangs would participate, and some heads of state and royal families of some countries would also be in attendance.
However, what Cheng Yi didn't expect was that Rex didn't attend in person. But then again, he has always been a person who likes to be the mastermind behind the scenes, and he is so shrewd that it's disgusting.
Cheng Yi silently took a puff of the pipe in his hand. The smell was strong, but also a little intoxicating.
"Let him fight for it, and see who can win."
Luo laughed loudly, "How come you haven't changed at all compared to a few years ago?"
"Oh? You haven't changed at all?" Cheng Yi opened his hands and showed Luo his face. "Isn't it that you hold a grudge even more than a few years ago?"
"Hahahahahahahaha——" Luo raised his pipe and nodded at Cheng Yi, "You, you..."
The two of them chatted happily, talking back and forth, as if they wanted to tell everyone about the past three to five years.
A long time passed.
"Dad, it's time to take your medicine." Alan came from behind the curtain and shouted at Luo.
Hearing this, Luo curled his lips in dissatisfaction, "It would be better to die early so that he doesn't have to take medicine."
Then he tapped his pipe and looked at Cheng Yi, "You go back. I'm going to take some medicine and sleep for a while."
He raised his withered finger and pointed at the list in Ling Shuo's hand, "There are still many good things on that list. Go back and study it."
Cheng Yi stood up and clasped his fists towards Luo Yi, "Thank you, Dad."
"But first, prepare the money. I can't help you without it."
Cheng Yi was expecting Luo's reaction.
Cheng Yi held the pipe with both hands and handed it back to Luo.
"Of course, how can I dare to take things from Dad without preparing the money?"
Luo didn't even raise his eyes, but waved his hand towards Cheng Yi, "You can take it away. Even if I die, I can still leave you with something to remember me by."
Cheng Yi smiled faintly and wrapped up the pipe.
"Then I'll be leaving first."
Then he turned around and gestured to Qi Huang and Ling Shuo, and the three of them strode towards the door.
"Why!"
As I reached the door, an old voice called out from behind me.
When Cheng Yi heard Luo's greeting, he didn't even turn his head. He turned his back to Luo and raised his hand to gesture to him.
"Don't worry, Dad. If you die, I will definitely come to collect your body."
“Ding-ling-ling——”
The bell outside the door rang, and the room suddenly became quiet, as quiet as if no one had been there.
Luo looked at the empty doorway, smiled with satisfaction, and murmured softly:
"You have a conscience, kid."
