Gu Hongxi
Upon hearing the name Gu Hongxi, everyone seemed to be frozen in place, momentarily stunned.
Everyone was filled with trepidation, secretly peeking out to carefully observe Lu Yuzhi and Gu Yan's expressions.
Lu Yuzhi's expression remained relatively calm, though he frowned slightly, revealing little emotional fluctuation.
But Gu Yan's expression was extremely unpleasant. His face turned as pale as paper, and his eyes were filled with disbelief and pain, as if he had received some kind of heavy blow.
Gu Hongxi passed away without any warning when Gu Yan was nine years old.
That day, the sun shone brightly as usual, and life seemed ordinary, but she left without warning, without leaving a single word, leaving young Gu Yan with endless confusion and deep trauma.
She disappeared without a trace for over a decade, and her sudden reappearance was hard for Gu Yan to accept.
Grandpa Lu looked puzzled and asked loudly, "Who are you talking about?"
Helpless, the butler had no choice but to raise his voice again and say loudly, "Gu Hongxi has sent someone."
Upon hearing Gu Hongxi's name again, Gu Yan's eyes instantly reddened, and he seemed to tremble uncontrollably, his hands clenched into fists, and his body tensed up.
Grandpa Lu finally heard him clearly, his voice filled with barely suppressed excitement as he shouted, "There's news from Hongxi? Quickly, bring her in!"
Then, a middle-aged man entered and respectfully said, "Hello, Mr. Lu, I've come for Gu Hongxi."
Grandpa Lu asked anxiously, "Hongxi, how is Hongxi? Is she doing well?"
Gu Hongxi is the granddaughter of Lu's old man's comrade-in-arms. When Gu Hongxi first came to S City to make her way in the world, she was unfamiliar with the place and people, so she stayed at the Lu family's house.
Out of consideration for his comradeship, Grandpa Lu naturally treated her like his own granddaughter, showing her the utmost care and concern.
Later, when Gu Hongxi had a child out of wedlock, Grandpa Lu not only did not blame her at all, but also gave her more comfort and support.
Later, she and Lu Yuzhi gradually developed feelings for each other. Lu Yuzhi wanted to marry her, and Grandpa Lu was very happy. He never showed any disdain because she had a child.
However, not long after Lu Yuzhi proposed, she left quietly. Old Master Lu kept thinking about her, fearing that she might encounter setbacks and not be doing well. He felt that he had failed his comrade-in-arms' trust and could never let go of this matter.
The man quickly replied, "She's doing very well, thank you for your concern."
Grandpa Lu looked bewildered and said anxiously, "Okay? Speak louder!"
Lu Antai quickly explained, "My grandfather is hard of hearing, please speak louder."
Then the man took a deep breath, raised his voice, and replied succinctly, "I'm fine."
"Why doesn't Hongxi come back on her own?" Old Master Lu asked expectantly.
“She’s busy and can’t get away, but she’ll come back to see you another time,” the man replied loudly.
Grandpa Lu nodded repeatedly and said, "Okay, okay, okay. I'll come back another day and tell her to definitely come back."
The man continued, "She sent me here to take Young Master Gu Yan away."
Upon hearing this, Gu Yan's face darkened, and he abruptly stood up and left.
Take him away? She remembers she has a son, but he doesn't remember having a mother.
After so many years of neglect, he was suddenly being taken away, which filled him with resistance and anger.
Seeing Gu Yan leave, the man became anxious and quickly asked, "Is this young master Gu Yan?"
Lu Yuzhi's expression was serious as he asked, "Where is Gu Hongxi now?"
“She’s been in Y country. She wants Young Master Gu Yan to go and stay there for a few days during the winter break,” the man answered truthfully.
After a moment of contemplation, Lu Yuzhi said, "The child can't accept it right now, but I will persuade him."
He knew about the knot in Gu Yan's heart, but he also felt that Gu Yan should go see his mother, whom he hadn't seen for many years, and resolve their differences.
After leaving the Lu family's old residence, Gu Yan wandered aimlessly down the street, his steps hurried and heavy.
The winter wind blew fiercely, causing his hair to flutter slightly. He appeared calm, but his heart was churning with turmoil, unable to find peace.
He was filled with mixed emotions upon hearing the news that his mother, Gu Hongxi, was suddenly going to take him away. He felt a mixture of longing and yearning for his mother's love, as well as resentment and anger at being abandoned.
He felt like a puppet being manipulated at will, his mother leaving whenever she wanted and taking him away whenever she wanted, never considering his feelings.
Gu Yan felt as if an invisible hand was gripping his heart tightly. The world around him became blurry, and the noise of the street seemed to fade away. He felt incredibly lonely, as if the whole world had abandoned him.
Gu Yan walked for an unknown amount of time, feeling as if his legs were filled with lead, utterly exhausted.
He longed to escape his chaotic state of mind for a while.
He slowly took out his phone, wanting to find someone to keep him company.
Gu Yan dialed Song Yang's number, his voice tinged with weariness, "Where are you?"
Song Yang's heart-wrenching sobs came from the other end of the phone, "Brother Gu, I confessed my feelings to Tian Yuan today, but I was rejected, Brother Gu."
"Oh dear, it's just a breakup, is it really necessary to cry like this?" Feng Tao's slightly disgusted voice could be faintly heard on the phone.
Gu Yan was already overwhelmed with his own problems and had no time or energy to get involved in Song Yang's love life.
He hung up the phone in frustration, hailed a taxi, and headed straight for Wang Boyang's house.
Upon reaching the door, Gu Yan knocked anxiously, but all he heard was the echo of his knocking; no one answered.
Left with no other option, Gu Yan went back to his own home to get a set of keys, and then drove to Wang Boyang's house again.
After entering the room, Gu Yan anxiously searched every room, but still couldn't find Wang Boyang. Clearly, he hadn't returned yet.
Gu Yan really wanted to find Wang Boyang. Last time, when he found out that his father was with Li Peiyu, he was heartbroken and sad. It was Wang Boyang who was there for him and helped him through it.
Therefore, he now instinctively wants to see Wang Boyang. Wang Boyang seems to possess some kind of magic that can soothe people's wounds.
Gu Yan dragged his heavy steps into the bedroom and collapsed onto the bed. All he wanted to do was sleep. He didn't want to think about those troubling things anymore, nor did he have the energy to.
After sleeping for an unknown amount of time, Gu Yan was awakened by a noisy commotion.
"Mr. Wang, please don't sleep on the sofa. Let me help you back to your room." It was a girl's gentle voice.
Today is the eve of the Lunar New Year. Li Peiyu and Jiang Shuchen went to a TV gala, while Wang Boyang, as another boss, organized a team-building activity for everyone.
There are many young women in the company. During team building activities, they took turns drinking with Wang Boyang. In the end, Wang Boyang could not resist such a barrage of drinks and got so drunk that he passed out.
His assistant, Xiao Ying, was responsible for taking him home.
