Chapter 160 Forgiveness

Gu Yan slowly said, "If this is the reason you abandoned me, I forgive you."

"Gu Yan, what did you say?" Gu Hongxi stared wide-eyed in disbelief, her voice filled with surprise.

She hadn't expected Gu Yan's forgiveness to come so easily.

“You’ve pursued your own dreams and achieved great things, which is truly admirable. You really shouldn’t be tied down by my side.” Gu Yan’s tone was calm and sincere.

"Mom is sorry." Gu Hongxi's voice was filled with deep guilt and self-reproach.

"Now I'm actually glad you abandoned me back then, otherwise I wouldn't have achieved what I have today." A relieved smile appeared on Gu Yan's face.

"Don't say that, Gu Yan." Gu Hongxi interrupted him urgently, her eyes full of heartache.

"I truly believe you did a great job. I forgive you," Gu Yan emphasized again, his eyes filled with forgiveness and understanding.

Gu Hongxi could no longer contain her emotions and hugged Gu Yan, sobbing uncontrollably, "But I've lost you."

"I'm still here, I'm fine." Gu Yan gently patted Gu Hongxi's back, trying to comfort her.

"No, it's all my fault for not being there for you as you grew up, that's why you went astray." Gu Hongxi cried and shook her head repeatedly.

“You,” Gu Yan’s face instantly turned ugly.

“No parent in the world would want to see their son with a man…” Gu Hongxi cried, her sobs echoing in the empty room. Her body trembled, and she was on the verge of collapse. “Even his parents would not accept it. Gu Yan, you can like girls, why do you have to be with him?”

Tears streamed down her face, flowing from her eyes like beads from a broken string.

Wang Boyang stood there, stunned, and began to feel that what he had done today was forcing Gu Yan into a corner, and was a sin.

"Can we not talk about this?" Gu Yan frowned, his voice low and hoarse.

"Okay, let's not talk about it now. Let's go home." Gu Hongxi took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. Her voice trembled slightly and she reluctantly gave in. She reached out and grabbed Gu Yan's hand.

Gu Yan and Gu Hongxi held hands the whole way.

Looking out the car window, Wang Boyang felt like an unwanted, obnoxious person, insisting on squeezing in with them and ruining the atmosphere. Thinking about it carefully, he realized he had acted impulsively today. He had spent a bit too much time with Gu Yan these past few days, and in a moment of smugness, he had forgotten his true self.

From the very beginning, he did not intend for Gu Yan to know his feelings, and he did not intend to cause Gu Yan any trouble.

Now that her feelings have been expressed and Gu Yan has clearly rejected her, she shouldn't force him or pester him.

After thinking it over, Wang Boyang made up his mind to talk to Gu Yan that night and that he would never bother him again.

When I got home, a somber atmosphere filled the room.

Gu Yan sat silently in a corner of the sofa, while Gu Hongxi, with slightly red eyes, sighed softly and broke the silence first.

"Gu Yan, do you know? I've been through so much in Y country all these years."

Gu Yan looked up, a hint of concern in his eyes. "Tell me about it."

Gu Hongxi nodded slightly and said slowly, "Life in Country Y is completely different from that in China. At first, the language barrier made studying architecture even more difficult. But I persevered with my own determination."

Gu Yan listened quietly, and a feeling of admiration for Gu Hongxi welled up in his heart.

"Later, by chance, I joined a design company. I started from the most basic work and worked my way up to where I am today." As she spoke, Gu Hongxi got up and took out a stack of design drawings from her bag.

"Look, this is the culmination of my years of hard work." Gu Hongxi handed the blueprints to Gu Yan.

Gu Yan took the drawings and carefully examined them. He was amazed by the exquisite lines and unique creativity on the drawings.

"You are truly amazing," Gu Yan said sincerely.

Gu Hongxi smiled slightly, "I just feel so indebted to you, Gu Yan."

Gu Yan said, "It's alright."

Gu Hongxi and Gu Yan talked for a long, long time, from memories of the past to their current life, from their expectations for the future to their deepest feelings. It was as if the mother and son were trying to make up for all the communication they had missed over the years, and their hearts seemed to be slowly getting closer.

Wang Boyang stayed in the room the whole time, feeling bored by the silence around him.

He even ate dinner alone, as the maid told him that Gu Yan would eat later.

Wang Boyang sat at the dining table, facing a sumptuous meal, but had no appetite. He chewed his food mechanically, his heart filled with bitterness.

After finishing his meal, Wang Boyang spoke to the maid in fluent foreign language, "Please tell Gu Yan that I want to talk to him. I'll wait for him upstairs, I'll keep waiting." His tone was firm, and his eyes revealed a hint of expectation and unease.

Time passed by, and it wasn't until eleven o'clock that Gu Yan finally entered the house.

Wang Boyang had been sitting on the edge of the bed. When he heard the door open, he couldn't wait to get out of bed and look at Gu Yan. Gu Yan, however, lowered his head and didn't dare to look up, like a child who had done something wrong.

"I was just joking with you today, don't take it seriously." Wang Boyang broke the silence first, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to make his tone sound relaxed.

Gu Yan raised his head, his eyes filled with disbelief. He stared straight at the person opposite him, as if trying to discern the truth of Wang Boyang's words from his expression.

Gu Yan's lips trembled slightly, and it took him a long time to squeeze out a sentence: "What you said... is it true?"

Wang Boyang stepped forward, gently patted Gu Yan's shoulder, and said, "Of course it's true, I was just kidding."

Gu Yan didn't want to investigate whether it was true or not, since he didn't want to be gay anyway.

"Now that you and your mother have cleared up the misunderstanding, there's no need for me to stay. I'm going back to China tomorrow." Wang Boyang said this with a forced calm demeanor, but his heart felt like it was being weighed down by a huge rock, making it hard to breathe.

Upon hearing that Wang Boyang was leaving, Gu Yan's heart skipped a beat, feeling a pang of reluctance. "Don't go! Let's go out and have some fun tomorrow, let's go skiing, okay?" Gu Yan said eagerly, her eyes full of anticipation.

“I’m not like you, a free spirit. I’m going back to stay with my mom for a couple of days before I have to go back to work. I have a lot of things to do at the company.” Wang Boyang shook his head helplessly, a wry smile on his face.

"Can we stay for two more days? I'll go back with you then." Gu Yan held Wang Boyang's arm tightly, her tone pleading.

“There’s no reason for you to stay with your mom and not let me go back to stay with mine, is there?” Wang Boyang frowned and broke free from Gu Yan’s hand.

"You're angry because I rejected you?" Gu Yan's voice deepened.

"I'm not angry." Wang Boyang turned his head away, not wanting Gu Yan to see his expression.

"Then why are you suddenly leaving?" Gu Yan pressed on relentlessly.

"Why are you stopping me and not letting me leave?" Wang Boyang turned his head and looked directly into Gu Yan's eyes.
