The counseling room was simply and quietly furnished. Soft lighting, like a veil, gently bathed the light beige sofa, creating a reassuring atmosphere. Gu Yan sat there somewhat uneasy, his eyes revealing obvious tension.
Psychological counselor Lin Yue smiled and handed Gu Yan a stack of forms, which included a personal information form and a problem assessment form.
Gu Yan took the form, took a deep breath, and began to fill it out carefully. His brows furrowed slightly at times and relaxed at others, as if he were deep in thought.
After filling it out, Gu Yan carefully handed the form to Lin Yue. Lin Yue gently flipped through the form, carefully reading every word and every option, then looked up and began to talk to Gu Yan with a gentle gaze.
Lin Yue said softly, "Can you share with me how you've been feeling lately?"
"It's painful, I feel terrible." Gu Yan's voice was low and suppressed.
"Has something happened recently?" Lin Yue asked with concern.
Gu Yan remained silent for a moment, as if organizing his thoughts, and then recounted in detail everything that had happened between him and Wang Boyang.
Lin Yue nodded and continued, "Could you share some of the most painful and difficult moments in your life?"
Gu Yan closed his eyes, thought seriously for a moment, and slowly said, "When my mother left me, the helplessness and loss made me feel like the sky had fallen. There was also the girl who liked me for two years who suddenly turned away, and the time when my friends, whom I always thought were very good, became distant from me."
All three instances of suffering were related to leaving.
After listening to Gu Yan's story, Lin Yue roughly understood the source of his psychological problems and sincerely asked, "Would you like me to help you?"
"Mm." Gu Yan nodded gently, his eyes filled with expectation and trust.
Lin Yue then had a long and in-depth conversation with Gu Yan, analyzing the problem from various angles and offering suggestions and guidance until the consultation ended.
After leaving the consultation room, Gu Hongxi, who had been anxiously waiting, hurriedly stepped forward to ask Gu Yan, "How did it go?"
"It's great, I feel much better." A long-lost sense of relief finally appeared on Gu Yan's face.
"That's good, that's good. Shall we make a date next time?" Gu Hongxi's worried expression lessened considerably.
"Okay. Let's go look at houses."
"Okay," Gu Hongxi replied.
One morning a week later, everyone gathered at the Lu family's old house and had breakfast quietly.
At this moment, Gu Hongxi broke the silence and slowly said, "I bought a house in S City, and I want to move out with Gu Yan."
Upon hearing this, Lu Yuzhi looked puzzled and quickly asked, "Why? Why would you suddenly have such a thought?"
Li Peiyu, who was sitting to the side, also looked surprised, her eyes filled with incomprehension.
In truth, both Lu Yuzhi and Li Peiyu were perfectly aware of the situation. The two of them were inseparable and overly affectionate, which was indeed a bit annoying. Especially since their relationship was rather complicated, the awkward atmosphere of living together often made them feel uncomfortable.
Having spent many years navigating the complexities of society, Gu Hongxi was experienced and quickly came up with a seemingly plausible reason. She calmly stated, "Gu Yan, you're all grown up now; it's time to learn to live independently."
After hearing this, Lu Yuzhi nodded thoughtfully, then asked, "When are you leaving?"
"Today, the house is all ready, and I've already had it thoroughly cleaned. You can just bring your bags and move in," Gu Hongxi replied decisively.
"Yes, I'm busy today. If you need any help, feel free to ask any of the servants in the house."
"Okay," Gu Hongxi replied.
After saying goodbye to the old man, Gu Yan and Gu Hongxi prepared to leave the Lu family.
Lu Yuzhi and Li Peiyu came to the gate to see them off. Watching the two figures walk away, Lu Yuzhi felt a mix of emotions.
Li Peiyu could tell that although Lu Yuzhi didn't show it much on the surface, she could truly feel that Lu Yuzhi was very reluctant to part with Gu Yan when they hugged goodbye.
"My precious son, whom I've raised for over a decade, is about to leave his father's embrace. You must be reluctant to part with him," Li Peiyu said softly.
“A little. When I was seventeen, Gu Yan was only two. I used to hold him and play with him every day. Later, when I was 24, Gu Yan was nine. From then on, we started relying on each other.” Lu Yuzhi’s voice was slightly emotional, and his eyes were red.
At 24, he struggled in the mire. The road ahead was winding and bumpy, and every step was incredibly difficult. Xiao Gu Yan became his source of strength.
Whenever he was struggling, looking exhausted and on the verge of a mental breakdown, Xiao Gu Yan would always notice and encourage him in his childish yet firm voice, "Dad, you're the best."
Li Peiyu gently took Lu Yuzhi's wrist and tenderly comforted him, "Call him home for dinner every week."
"Mm," Lu Yuzhi responded, then took Li Peiyu's hand and slowly walked into the house. "What are your plans for your birthday next month?"
Li Peiyu tilted her head slightly, thought for a moment, and said, "I want to get my friends together and relax. Everyone has been quite tired lately, so it's time to find an opportunity to get together and release some stress."
"Okay, shall we meet at home or outside?" Lu Yuzhi then asked.
"Let's go outside. I don't want to make a mess of the house."
"How about the fifth dimension? I'll book it all for you," Lu Yuzhi suggested with a smile.
