That evening, when Song Yang returned to his dorm, he checked Gu Yan's temperature and found it to be a staggering 39 degrees Celsius. Song Yang's heart tightened; without a moment's hesitation, he immediately dialed 120. After all, Gu Yan was a scion of a wealthy family; if anything happened to him, how could they, mere mortals, possibly bear the responsibility?
Soon, an ambulance arrived at the school, and the medical staff quickly lifted Gu Yan onto a stretcher and took him away. Song Yang and his other roommates also rushed to the hospital.
As for why Gu Yan was sent to the hospital, there are many different opinions. Some say that Gu Yan committed suicide because of love. After all, he was rejected by Li Peiyu on the previous page.
People were willing to believe this explanation, and in this way, the rumor gradually became the so-called fact.
The news quickly reached Li Peiyu, who, of course, refused to believe it. She kept sending messages to Gu Yan, anxiously asking him what was wrong. However, no one replied.
Left with no other choice, she sent messages to Song Yang and the others. Song Yang replied, "It's just what you heard. Gu Yan is going to die. He committed suicide for you. Are you satisfied now?"
Li Peiyu froze on the spot, her mind blank, her eyes filled with astonishment and confusion, and a complex emotion she couldn't quite describe welled up inside her.
Li Peiyu asked Song Yang for the hospital's address and rushed over.
On the road, inside a taxi. Li Peiyu's phone rang.
Lu Yuzhi: Let's break up.
Li Peiyu's heart tightened. Why?
Li Peiyu: Tell me in person.
Lu Yuzhi: There's no need.
Last night, he received a call from the head of the finance department, who told him that Gu Yan had been pursuing a girl named Li Peiyu recently, and had even broadcast love letters to the whole school. Various versions of the love story between them were circulating wildly throughout the school, causing quite a stir.
If Gu Yan likes Li Peiyu, then he should step aside.
When Li Peiyu forcefully pushed open the ward door, she saw Song Yang, Feng Tao, and the others standing there with serious expressions, each of them looking extremely grave. Gu Yan, on the other hand, was deathly pale, lying quietly asleep, an IV drip attached to his left hand, and a conspicuous white bandage wrapped around his right wrist.
Li Peiyu's heart tightened. So Gu Yan cut his wrists? How could he be so foolish?
Song Yang glared at Li Peiyu and began his performance, "What are you pretending for? Don't you hate him?"
Feng Tao then asked, "What exactly did you say to him that made him do something so foolish?"
What did she say? Li Peiyu recalled that she said she had engaged in sexual acts with others, that she was willing to be a plaything, and that she could never love him again.
Song Yang sniffed and said, "Since you don't accept him, you should leave quickly. How sad he would be if he woke up and saw you."
Chu Weiping frowned and said, "Li Peiyu, you said Gu Yan is uncomfortable because you're not around him, but actually he's liked you from the very beginning. Even he doesn't know it, but we've always seen it. If he really disliked you that much, why would he allow you to keep hovering around him? When you accompanied him to economics class, he always subconsciously saved the seat next to you. Once, Song Yang and I deliberately sat on either side of him, and the look on his face was like he was about to eat us alive."
Song Yang said, "And the love letters you wrote to him, he read every single one of them carefully, smiling like an idiot as he read them, and he kept them all, locked in the cabinet. If he didn't like you, he would have thrown them in the trash long ago."
“He lets you tear up all the love letters other people give him; he hasn’t read a single one,” Feng Tao added.
Chu Weiping said, "Besides, that day when he confessed his feelings at the pool, although his words were harsh, did you ever consider that it was because you were dressed like that that he got jealous?"
Li Peiyu stood there, her thoughts drifting back to that day. She carefully recalled how he had indeed tossed her a towel without hesitation and let her drape it over herself. A wave of doubt began to wash over her. Could it really be as Chu Weiping had said—that his harsh words were because he saw her alluring two-piece swimsuit?
Gu Yan was woken up by the noise and slowly opened his eyes. Song Yang rushed to Gu Yan's side, leaned over him, and wailed, "Brother Gu, why did you think of that? Why were you so stupid to try to commit suicide for love?"
Gu Yan frowned, seeing the guilt on Li Peiyu's face. He understood. "You're the one who committed suicide for love, your whole family committed suicide for love."
He might go with the flow, but he was proud; he could torment himself, but he wouldn't let Li Peiyu feel bad.
Song Yang pulled up Gu Yan's right hand, which was wrapped in a white cloth, and kept winking at Gu Yan, saying in a mournful tone, "Brother Gu, if you feel uncomfortable, just cry it out, don't hold it in."
"I want to cry, but not to the point of suicide." With that, Gu Yan tore off the white cloth from his wrist and threw it away.
Song Yang rolled his eyes at Gu Yan and muttered, "You didn't even take advantage of the opportunity I gave you. You wasted all my hard work. You deserve to be dumped."
Li Peiyu then realized that Song Yang and the others had conspired to deceive her, but it was unexpected that Gu Yan did not continue the act.
Li Peiyu didn't react after being deceived, and still looked at Gu Yan guiltily.
Gu Yan tilted his head, his face haggard, his lips pale, staring out the window without looking at Li Peiyu.
Just then, the door creaked open.
Lu Yuzhi pushed open the door and entered, a snow-white shirt encasing his tall and muscular physique. The collar of the shirt was slightly open, revealing a small patch of tanned skin, exuding a wild yet captivating aura. The sleeves of the shirt were casually rolled up, revealing strong and powerful forearms, their lines smooth and full of strength.
Lu Yuzhi's face was as cold and stern as if carved by a knife and axe, with thick sword-like eyebrows and deep, sharp eyes that shone like cold stars, as if he were the master of the entire world. Li Peiyu dared not look directly at him, yet she couldn't help but be deeply attracted.
