Chapter 38 Familiar White Porridge

If this were to become public, one can only imagine the immense public pressure and criticism the Su family would face. Even she herself, as a teacher, has tarnished the image of a teacher.

Su Wenqing was torn. She knew all too well the impact being someone's lover would have on her family and her own future, but her love for Lu Yuzhi made it hard for her to let go.

Lu Yuzhi took a deep breath, his gaze sharpening as if trying to pierce through Su Wenqing's heart. "Be a friend for life, or a woman for three months and then never see each other again? The choice is yours."

Lu Yuzhi's words were like a sharp blade, piercing Su Wenqing's heart.

Her face turned pale instantly, her lips trembled, but she couldn't utter a word.

Her mind was in turmoil; she had never imagined facing such a difficult choice.

Friendship was her long-standing way of interacting with Lu Yuzhi; though there was love, it could only be hidden silently. Becoming his woman, even for a short time, would allow her to truly possess him. However, the outcome three months later filled her with immense fear and pain.

Tears finally streamed down her face, dripping onto the ground and splashing into tiny droplets. She looked up at Lu Yuzhi, her eyes filled with sorrow and despair.

"Yu Zhi, why are you forcing me like this... why..." Su Wenqing sobbed, her cries of pain and helplessness echoing in the silent room, each note seemingly telling of the complex emotions she had suppressed in her heart for many years.

Su Wenqing's body trembled slightly from crying as she continued, sobbing, "Why are you all forcing me? My brother is forcing me. He said if I can't get married this year, he'll find me a wife himself, whether I want to or not. Yu Zhi, do you really want me to marry someone I don't love and spend the rest of my life in pain? We've known each other for so many years. For the sake of our friendship, can't you accept me? Even if it's just to bring me home as a meaningless decoration, a lifeless piece of furniture, that would be fine too."

Lu Yuzhi's expression remained cold and stern. He slowly said, "Aren't you in pain being just a decoration? Su Wenqing, if I'm willing to get married, the old man will naturally arrange for a woman he approves of. I can't even decide my own wife. You should listen to your brother and marry someone decent. Don't be fixated on things that are impossible."

Su Wenqing stared blankly at him, her tear-streaked face appearing even more pitiful under the lamplight. At that moment, her heart seemed to shatter into countless pieces, scattered in the cold air.

“You can sleep here.” Lu Yu’s voice was calm and even, without a trace of emotion. “I’ll pretend you didn’t say anything today.” After saying that, he slowly got up, elegantly picked up the shirt draped to the side, and then walked steadily toward the third floor, his back view cold and resolute.

That bed was where he and Li Peiyu made love, and now Su Wenqing was lying on it. Lu Yuzhi frowned and decided to have Aunt Li throw away the sheets and blankets along with the bed tomorrow and replace them with new ones.

The next morning, sunlight streamed into the room through the gaps in the curtains. Li Peiyu rubbed her sleepy eyes and got up to go out. As she walked into the living room, she was surprised to see Su Wenqing slowly walking out of Lu Yuzhi's room.

Su Wenqing removed her makeup, and her originally delicate face now appeared somewhat plain. Her eyes were slightly red, but even so, she still exuded a serene and elegant temperament, a unique charm that came naturally from a scholarly family.

When Su Wenqing saw Li Peiyu, she pursed her lips slightly and said with a hint of reproach, "Yu Zhi is so annoying. He made me cry last night."

Upon hearing this, Li Peiyu felt a surge of complex emotions. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails almost dug into her palms, but something seemed to be stuck in her throat, and she couldn't utter a single word.

"Let's go have breakfast." Su Wenqing pretended to be in a good mood and took Li Peiyu's arm as they headed to the restaurant.

One by one, the friends left their rooms and scattered around the restaurant, looking for suitable seats.

Breakfast consisted of red date and white rice porridge with goji berries and an egg.

The familiar recipe, the familiar taste. Li Peiyu ate it with a completely natural expression.

The other kids were secretly wondering to themselves: Is this how the wealthy eat? This was quite unexpected.

They also anticipated a sumptuous breakfast, with an exquisite silk tablecloth, sterling silver cutlery, top-quality caviar, freshly picked white truffles, freshly baked French croissants, perfectly seared Kobe beef, a cup of coffee made from the finest beans, and a variety of imported cheeses, nuts, and dried fruits.

So all there is is plain porridge and eggs?

All the friends turned their attention to Li Peiyu, who had already eaten half a bowl. Seeing her enjoying herself so much, they couldn't help but think: Sister Yu seems to be having a great time eating.

They felt a little disappointed, after all, this simple and plain breakfast was quite different from the luxurious breakfast they had imagined, but they didn't dare to say anything and just silently ate the food in front of them.

Feng Tao thought to himself: "This little bit of porridge isn't even enough to fill a tooth gap. Rich people really don't know how to enjoy life. I definitely need to go to the school gate later and buy an egg pancake to fill my stomach."

Looking at the extremely simple breakfast in front of her, Su Wenqing couldn't help but purse her lips, secretly thinking that this was far inferior to the breakfasts at home.

She frowned and asked Aunt Li, who was busy in the kitchen, "Aunt Li, is this what Yu Zhi is having for breakfast?"

Aunt Li didn't even look up, focusing intently on washing the fruit, as if she hadn't heard Su Wenqing's words at all, completely ignoring her.

Su Wenqing was somewhat surprised, and raised her voice again, saying, "Aunt Li, did you hear me?"

Aunt Li then glanced at her slowly before continuing to wash the fruit.

Seeing this, Su Wenqing continued, "Yu Zhi's workload is so heavy, he can't just eat vegetarian food. At the very least, we should fry him a steak."

Aunt Li still didn't respond, but paused slightly in her washing of the fruit.

"Did you hear me? I said I'd fry a steak." Su Wenqing was a little annoyed at this point, a hint of displeasure flashing across her face, but she couldn't show it directly, so she could only suppress her emotions and say, "Where's the steak? I'll fry it."

Aunt Li then stopped washing the fruit, slowly opened the refrigerator, took out a steak and handed it to Su Wenqing, before turning back to washing the fruit.

Li Peiyu finished her porridge at a leisurely pace, then got up and went into the kitchen to wash the dishes and chopsticks she had used.

While frying the steak, Su Wenqing spoke up, "Peiyu, put it down, the housekeeper will wash it." Su Wenqing's demeanor and tone unconsciously revealed the air of a mistress of the house.
