“Then I refuse.” Li Peiyu’s voice was soft, but unusually firm.
"Why? My grandfather is threatening you? Don't pay attention to him, I'll talk to him and handle it. Just tell me if you're willing to be with me." Lu Yuzhi's emotions became increasingly agitated.
“I don’t want to,” Li Peiyu said, taking a deep breath.
"Why?"
Because she couldn't risk her family's lives.
Because she has self-respect.
"My mind is a mess. I need to calm down and think about what we really are. You should calm down too. Let's talk again when we've thought it through." Li Peiyu's voice was weary.
"How long do you need to calm down?" Lu Yu asked anxiously.
“At least three years,” Li Peiyu replied.
“Three years?” Lu Yuzhi exclaimed. “Three days.”
“Let’s calm down and look at this rationally. If you still have the same mindset as you do now and are still willing to stand up for me against Old Master Lu, then let’s talk again, okay?” Li Peiyu raised her head and looked at him with a firm gaze.
"It's been too long. I'll go crazy missing you. Can't we try something different?" Lu Yuzhi's eyes were full of sorrow as he kept kissing Li Peiyu, pleading with her. "Don't do this to me. I can't live without you."
"Then at least a year. Do you respect me? You can threaten me with money, first take my house to pay off the debt, the three-bedroom apartment upstairs, and a five-million-dollar villa." Li Peiyu's tone was somewhat agitated.
“I wouldn’t do that to you,” Lu Yuzhi quickly said. “I didn’t want you to pay me back; I just wanted a reason to see you.”
"I know you won't. I wrote that damn IOU because I really wanted to see you too."
Li Peiyu held Lu Yuzhi, tears streaming down her face. Sobbing, she continued, "At least a year. Please give me a year."
She wanted to try and see if she could succeed, and if one day she could stand at the top.
Without a distinguished family background, she can create it herself.
However, she dared not voice this audacious idea. She had originally planned for three years, but Lu Yuzhi refused. So, she would at least give herself one year to achieve something, to prove that she had the potential to succeed and reach the top. A year later, she would present her results to President Lu in person.
"You need to handle Old Master Lu during this time. If you can't, don't come looking for me."
"I'll handle it, but I won't agree to a whole year for that bullshit."
"If you don't agree, then we're breaking up for good."
"That's ruthless." Lu Yuzhi said resentfully, his face full of desolation.
"I don't know how Gu Yan found out about what happened between us." Li Peiyu frowned, her face showing worry.
Lu Yuzhi replied calmly, "Yes, I was planning to confront him anyway."
Lu Yuzhi gently raised his hand and tenderly stroked Li Peiyu's rosy face, saying affectionately, "What do I do when I miss you?"
"Hold on." Li Peiyu turned her head slightly, her voice cold.
"Can't I come to you? Just occasionally?" Lu Yu's eyes were full of reluctance and longing as he asked eagerly.
“No. Let’s treat each other like strangers. If you dare to come looking for me, the year will be extended.” Li Peiyu’s tone remained unwavering, her gaze resolute.
"Ruthless and cruel." Lu Yuzhi's heart was in turmoil. Why was he the only one who felt pain every time they separated?
"Goodbye." Li Peiyu bit her lip, suppressing the turmoil in her heart, and slowly let go of Lu Yuzhi's arms that were wrapped around her.
Lu Yuzhi's arms hung limply at his sides, as if his soul had been ripped away.
There is absolutely no way I can see him again.
That bullshit one-year period? He's not going to stick to that.
After parting ways, Li Peiyu dragged her heavy steps and slowly returned home.
Standing at the door, she raised her hand and then lowered it again, hesitant to go inside because of the terrible thought in her mind: she wanted to sell the villa to start her own business.
She didn't know what the consequences would be if she voiced this idea, or what kind of uproar it would cause in the family. She couldn't imagine that no one would support such a foolish and audacious act.
After hesitating and struggling for a long time, Li Peiyu finally made up her mind and slowly knocked on the door.
The mother opened the door and saw her daughter's haggard face and tear stains, and her heart ached. But heartbreak is a painful thing, and it's not something that can be relieved by simple words of comfort. Although the mother felt deeply sorry for her daughter, she really didn't know how to help her.
"Yu Yu, Yu Yu." Her mother hugged Li Peiyu tightly, her eyes filled with heartache and worry.
"Come inside," said Li Peixiao, the older brother, as he walked over. "So what if you're heartbroken? Just find someone else."
"Brother, could you call my sister-in-law over? I have something to discuss with everyone." Li Peiyu's voice was soft and trembling slightly.
Everyone's expressions instantly turned serious, as if they sensed the gravity of the situation.
“Okay, I’ll call her over right now.” The older brother said, taking out his phone and making a call.
Her brother and sister-in-law were about to get married and were choosing a wedding date, but she was up to something at this crucial moment, which made Li Peiyu feel even more guilty.
Half an hour later, Li Peiyu's sister-in-law, Xiao Qin, arrived and was very happy to see her. "Yuyu's back?"
The older brother said, "Yu Yu said she has something to tell us."
Li Peixiao invited everyone to sit on the sofa. "Yuyu, sit here with your brother. You can say whatever you want. I'll back you up."
Li Peiyu suddenly knelt down in front of everyone.
"What are you doing? What's wrong?" Everyone rushed to help her up.
"Don't help me up, let me kneel down and say it," Li Peiyu said stubbornly.
Her father grabbed her arm and said, "You don't have to kneel down to say it."
"No, all of you sit down and listen to me."
Dad said, "Sit down, sit down, let her finish speaking so she can get up sooner."
“I want to start my own business, and I need a lot of money. I want to sell the villa, sister-in-law, sell the villa, and I'll buy you a three-bedroom apartment. When I make money, I'll buy you an even bigger house.” Li Peiyu said in one breath, nervously waiting for everyone's reaction.
"You scared me to death! You scared me to death! I thought you went to sell heroin!" the sister-in-law said, patting her chest.
“I thought you’d been scammed,” the older brother said.
“I thought you’d done something wrong and were going to be arrested by the police,” Mom added.
Dad relaxed, "You really scared me to death."
Everyone chimed in with their own comments, but no one showed any shock on their faces.
“I said I wanted to sell the villa,” Li Peiyu raised her voice and emphasized again.
The older brother said, "Sell it, I heard you. Stop kneeling, get up."
"You'd agree to me selling the villa?" Li Peiyu asked incredulously.
"Didn't you say you wanted to start your own business?" the older brother asked matter-of-factly.
"What if we have to pay compensation? Then we'll lose the villa." Li Peiyu's voice carried a hint of worry.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to buy a three-bedroom apartment? Even if you lose the villa, you can still get a three-bedroom apartment,” the brother comforted him.
"Sister-in-law, you don't have any objections?" Li Peiyu asked, looking at her sister-in-law.
