More than a month later, Peiyu went back to attend her brother Li Peixiao's wedding. After returning to school, Xiao Fan's variety show "I'm Here" premiered amidst great anticipation.
Li Peiyu and the others waited anxiously in front of the TV, their eyes glued to the screen. However, to their disappointment, they didn't hear Jiang Shuchen sing a single song throughout the entire program.
Disappointment was written all over everyone's faces, and their original expectant expressions turned gloomy.
Completely confused, Li Peiyu immediately called the woman who had been in charge of her project, eager to find out what was going on.
After the call was connected, Li Peiyu spoke softly, "Sister, this is Li Peiyu."
"oh."
"I'd like to ask you why Jiang Shuchen's song wasn't selected," Li Peiyu said in an extremely polite tone, even with a hint of caution.
A sigh came from the other end of the phone, "Sigh, I quite like that song. I feel it's a pity it wasn't selected, but there's nothing I can do. Someone with stronger connections squeezed him out."
"Oh, thank you, sister." Li Peiyu slowly put down the phone, her heart heavy as if a huge rock was pressing down on it.
They weren't selected, and they wasted three months of promotional time.
Li Peiyu calmed herself down and comforted the dejected Jiang Shuchen, "It's okay, we'll go online on a music platform. Good things come to those who wait."
Wang Boyang frowned and said, "We gave Director Zhou 300,000 yuan, and it's just gone like that? That's such a loss!"
Upon hearing this, Guo Jiahe's expression instantly turned panicked, after all, she hadn't given any money at all.
"I'll call him and ask what's going on." After saying that, Guo Jiahe hurriedly went to another room and dialed Director Zhou's number with trembling hands.
As soon as the call connected, Guo Jiahe said anxiously, "Director Zhou, my brother's song wasn't selected."
"You weren't selected? I'll call and ask." Director Zhou's tone carried a hint of surprise.
Director Zhou was having dinner with Qiao An at a luxurious restaurant.
Director Zhou hung up the phone.
Qiao An recognized Guo Jiahe's voice on the phone and asked, "Is this Guo Jiahe?"
"Yes, we arranged a variety show for her brother before, and everything was going well, but I don't know why they changed their minds. I'll call and ask," Director Zhou replied, frowning.
"No need to ask, they used Qin Mingyue's piano piece. The investor is Qin Mingyue's cousin," Qiao An said calmly.
It was Qiao An who usurped Qin Mingyue's rights, suppressed Li Peiyu, and took over the background music for that variety show.
"How am I going to explain this to Golden Harvest? This is such a hassle," Director Zhou said, looking troubled.
"Shall I give you a suggestion?" Joan's lips curled up, revealing a sly smile.
"What move?" Director Zhou asked eagerly.
"I heard that Chengzhou Group is going to invest in a new movie, a big production, and the director hasn't been decided yet. Do you want to be in it?" Qiao An raised an eyebrow.
"Of course I want to!" Director Zhou's eyes lit up.
"I'll give you a way to get something for nothing."
Director Zhou leaned closer to Qiao An and lowered his voice. "Secretary Qiao, please speak." Director Zhou's face was full of anticipation.
"First, you agree to let Guo Jiahe's younger brother sing the movie theme song. Then, invite Boss Cheng Zhou for a drink another day, and have Guo Jiahe and her female boss accompany you. If you make Boss Cheng happy, the movie will be yours, and the theme song will be taken care of too. Kill two birds with one stone," Qiao An said smugly.
"Is it feasible?" Director Zhou hesitated. He had heard that the CEO of Chengzhou had extremely brutal methods of tormenting women, methods that would make anyone's scalp tingle.
“You haven’t seen Guo Jiahe’s boss. She’s more than ten times more beautiful than Guo Jiahe. She’s all-naturally beautiful and hasn’t had any work done.” Qiao An’s eyes revealed a hint of jealousy. “Director Zhou, don’t be so sympathetic. Maybe she’s just hoping to get a chance to get close to CEO Cheng Zhou.”
Director Zhou thought about it and agreed.
“If she doesn’t want to, then she doesn’t want to. Who can force her?” Qiao An said.
Director Zhou nodded. If Guo Jiahe's boss was really willing to take on President Cheng, his movie was in the bag, and the theme song for Guo Jiahe would also be secured.
"Secretary Qiao, how come you're so smart?"
Qiao An grinned wickedly, secretly pleased with herself, and handed Li Peiyu to CEO Cheng Zhou, to see if Lu Yuzhi would be disgusted and whether he still wanted her.
A short while later, Director Zhou called Guo Jiahe back. "Jiahe, I'm sorry, they said they used Qin Mingyue's piano piece. Qin Mingyue has too many connections, there's really nothing we can do."
"What should I do? How am I supposed to explain this to my friend?" Guo Jiahe's voice was filled with anxiety and helplessness.
“Golden Harvest, don’t worry. Here’s what I’ve got: I have a film here, there’s still a chance,” Director Zhou reassured him.
"You're not kidding me, are you?" Guo Jiahe asked, full of suspicion.
"How could that be? What kind of relationship do we have? I would never lie to you, let alone anyone else," Director Zhou assured him confidently.
"Alright, I'll trust you one more time." Guo Jiahe hung up the phone helplessly, took a deep breath, composed himself, and went out to relay Director Zhou's words to everyone.
Guo Jiahe said weakly, "How about we trust Director Zhou one more time?"
Li Peiyu frowned, lost in thought.
Director Zhou is one of the top directors in the industry. If Jiang Shuchen's song can be used as the theme song for his movie, Jiang Shuchen's image will be elevated immediately, which is much better than releasing it in a niche market.
However, the time required from filming to release is too long. If the theme song project is also cancelled by then, the loss will be too great.
Li Peiyu shared her concerns with everyone.
Wang Boyang suggested that Jiang Shuchen could write another song as the movie's theme song, but this time the song would be released online, which would be more conservative.
Everyone agreed.
