Wang Boyang sighed, gently placed the vegetables in his hand on the kitchen counter, and began to wash and prepare them.
Gu Yan said, "What are you doing going out early and coming back late every day? You don't even know how to cook. I've been eating takeout so many times."
Wang Boyang turned his head and glanced at Gu Yan, "Busy starting a business with Li Peiyu."
"Start a business?"
"Would you like to come and take a look at our company, Yuxing Entertainment Company? Yu as in Lu Yuzhi." Wang Boyang said, pausing the vegetables he was arranging.
Upon hearing this, Gu Yan paused in his actions, and the character in the game was defeated because of this momentary distraction.
She actually named her company after the character "玙" (yù).
"Li Peiyu is ready to take off, are you still planning to continue being so颓废 (颓废 is a difficult word to translate directly, but it implies a state of listlessness, apathy, and a lack of motivation)?"
A complicated expression appeared on Gu Yan's face; Li Peiyu was walking too fast.
“Li Peiyu also broke up with her boyfriend, but she didn’t react like you,” Wang Boyang continued.
Just as Gu Yan was lost in thought, his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and saw his great-grandfather's image on the screen.
A sense of tension welled up in Gu Yan's heart. After hesitating for a moment, he still pressed the answer button.
The deep, authoritative voice of Old Master Lu came from the other end of the phone: "Gu Yan, come back to the old house for dinner tomorrow."
Gu Yan quickly replied, "I understand, Great-Grandpa."
Gu Yan had just hung up the phone and hadn't even had time to put it in his pocket when he heard Wang Boyang say with a stern face, "Starting tomorrow, you'll be moving back to the dorm."
"Why?" Gu Yan looked at Wang Boyang with a puzzled and confused expression, frowning.
"You can stay if you want, but I'm going back to my dorm and I won't be coming here again." Wang Boyang didn't even look up, his eyes fixed intently on the food in the pot.
"Alright then, I'll go back to my dorm too." Gu Yan's voice carried a hint of helplessness and disappointment.
Wang Boyang kept stirring the food in the pot with the spatula in his hand.
Since Gu Yan has already accepted the fact that he has been dumped, he should draw a clear line with her as soon as possible.
It would be best if we never saw each other again in this lifetime.
He knew all too well that Gu Yan would never accept him.
So he buried his inexplicable feelings for Gu Yan deep in his heart.
Gu Yan was silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "Then I'll go downstairs and buy some wine. Let's have a farewell drink."
“No need, I don’t want to drink.” Wang Boyang refused without hesitation.
"Why?" Gu Yan pressed, his face full of confusion.
"I just don't want to get drunk." Wang Boyang ladled the food onto a plate.
People are more likely to make mistakes when they're drunk.
"What a disappointment," Gu Yan muttered.
The next evening, the Lu family's old house was brightly lit.
Gu Yan arrived late, and the atmosphere inside the room was already heavy when he stepped through the heavy door.
Everyone was already seated neatly at the dining table.
Grandpa Lu sat upright in the main seat, his expression solemn and imposing. Aunt Li sat beside him.
Lu Yuzhi's face was deep and gloomy, his expression so dark it seemed like it could drip water. He exuded a strong aura of hostility, making the atmosphere in the entire space extremely oppressive.
Lu Yuzhi's eldest brother, Lu Antai, sat upright and serious, while his two daughters sat obediently to the side, not daring to make a sound.
Lu Yuzhi broke the silence first, coldly saying, "Gu Yan, it's very impolite to make your elders wait." His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an undeniable authority.
"I'm sorry, Great-Grandpa." Gu Yan lowered his head and quickly walked to the table, his face full of guilt.
"It's alright, it's alright. Great-Grandpa is happy to wait for you. Come and sit here with Great-Grandpa." Grandpa Lu's face instantly changed to a kind smile as he waved to Gu Yan.
Gu Yan's great-grandfather and Grandpa Lu were comrades-in-arms who shared life and death. Back then, Gu Yan's mother and Gu Yan were destitute and alone. Grandpa Lu took pity on them and took them in. Grandpa Lu has always treated Gu Yan like his own great-grandson.
"Yuzhi, don't keep that gloomy face. You're scaring everyone. This is a family dinner today, so everyone should be happy," Old Master Lu said, frowning slightly with displeasure.
"Don't you know why I have such a gloomy face?" Lu Yuzhi snorted coldly, his tone full of resentment.
"How would I know about your affairs?" Old Master Lu turned his head away, feigning ignorance.
"Then it seems Grandpa has dementia. You don't remember what you've done. I'll arrange for you to go to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow." Lu Yuzhi's lips curled into a cold smile, his eyes revealing a hint of ruthlessness.
"Lu Yuzhi, what do you want to do? Do you want to imprison me in the hospital?" Old Master Lu slammed his hand on the table, his eyes wide with anger.
“I can consider it,” Lu Yuzhi replied casually, his expression unchanged.
"You bastard, I'm your own grandfather. Do you really want to anger me to death?" Old Master Lu was trembling with anger, pointing his finger at Lu Yuzhi and cursing loudly.
"If you were gone, the entire Lu family would be mine. Grandpa, are you really willing to let me have it so easily? I would be eternally grateful."
Suppressing his anger, Old Master Lu demanded, "Lu Yuzhi, why did you fire your aunt's whole family?"
“Because you’re not being good, Grandpa,” Lu Yuzhi said casually, raising an eyebrow.
"What did you say?" Old Master Lu stared wide-eyed at Lu Yuzhi in disbelief.
“Grandpa has been naughty, and your brothers and sisters will all have to take the punishment for you. I’ll deal with them one by one. Do you know about your eldest brother’s grandson, Lu Jianian, embezzling public funds to lend money at exorbitant interest rates? I plan to send him to jail.” Lu Yuzhi crossed his arms, his tone icy cold and devoid of any warmth.
"You dare?" Old Master Lu was so angry that his face turned ashen, and he was panting heavily.
