Li Peiyu slowly got up and walked back to the kitchen with light steps.
Her gaze quickly fell on the exquisite coffee machine, and then she began to make coffee.
Just as she was focused on her work, an ice cream suddenly appeared in front of her without warning. She was slightly startled, looked up, and saw that it was Lu Yuzhi.
Lu Yuzhi, with a hint of impatience on his face, held up an ice cream and asked curtly, "Want some?"
Li Peiyu hesitated for a moment, then reached out and took the ice cream, carefully sticking out her tongue to lick it. "So cold."
Then he licked it even smaller.
Looking at her cautious manner, Lu Yuzhi's burning gaze seemed to pierce through Li Peiyu's body and reach the depths of her heart. "Taking such a small bite, do you not want to eat or do you want me to feed you?"
Upon hearing this, Li Peiyu took a big bite out of spite and then held it in her mouth.
Instantly, the extreme cold almost froze her mouth.
To her surprise, Lu Yuzhi snatched the large mouthful of ice cream from her mouth with his own. He then swallowed it, muttering, "You're afraid of ice cream but you still insist on eating it."
Li Peiyu retorted somewhat aggrievedly, "I didn't insist on eating it; you gave it to me."
After a moment of silence, Lu Yuzhi suddenly asked out of the blue, "Ice cream or milk tea?"
Li Peiyu was taken aback, and thought to herself that he must be referring to the time she and Wang Boyang secretly drank milk tea at the hospital that day.
Is he subtly jealous?
Lu Yu's thin lips curled slightly as he asked, "You really don't want to date Gu Yan?"
Li Peiyu answered without hesitation: "No."
Lu Yuzhi's dark eyes flashed with malice. He pinched her chin and asked in a flippant tone, "Then continue with me?"
"Aren't you afraid that Gu Yan will find out now? How heartbroken he will be. How disappointed he will be in his dear father."
"I'm afraid." Lu Yu's eyes were gleaming. "Even if I'm afraid, I still want to do it."
As Lu Yuzhi spoke, a whirlpool seemed to be hidden in his eyes, causing Li Peiyu to be stunned for a moment.
Li Peiyu regained her composure, bit her lip, and answered firmly, "I don't want to."
She couldn't afford that. After all, his woman was only with him for three months, and she couldn't bear to be abandoned again.
Besides, he just threw her away so easily, and now he wants to just pick her up again. What does he take her for? How could she be such a casual person?
"Why? Have you fallen for that milk tea guy?" Lu Yuzhi's voice carried a hint of nervousness.
Li Peiyu hesitated for a moment, then said softly, "I have a bit of a crush on you."
"What does he have that I don't?" Lu Yuzhi stared intently at Li Peiyu, his eyes flashing with a complex light.
Without thinking, Li Peiyu blurted out, "He's young."
Lu Yuzhi's face instantly turned extremely gloomy, as if he had been hit by a cold wind.
The light that had been gleaming in his eyes was instantly obscured by a thick layer of darkness, replaced by endless gloom. It felt as if a boulder had been violently slammed into his heart, leaving a dull and painful sensation.
He seemed to see himself more than a decade later, his face weary and weathered, the years etched with indelible marks. Meanwhile, she would still be blooming like a vibrant flower, full of youthful energy and charm.
She will have more opportunities, more people will surround her, and the distance between me and her will grow further and further over time.
This realization filled his heart with endless bitterness, a deep sense of helplessness and powerlessness regarding the age gap.
His hands clenched unconsciously, his nails digging deep into his palms, and his once proud and confident face was now etched with loneliness and sorrow.
Li Peiyu gritted her teeth and said, "I'll say it again, I will not give a second chance to those who abandoned me."
Lu Yuzhi's expression grew even more solemn as he said, "Hmph, I won't give those I've abandoned a second chance." With that, he turned and left, his back view tinged with loneliness.
In the real world, Li Peiyu was abandoned by her divorced parents when she was young. They both started new families and had new children. She was left to rely on her grandmother.
They lived in a dilapidated, cramped old house with crumbling walls and a leaky roof.
Li Peiyu wears faded and ill-fitting clothes to school every day, and her schoolbag has been patched and repaired many times.
She saw her classmates wearing brand-new and beautiful clothes and carrying fashionable backpacks, and her heart was filled with envy and bitterness.
Those students are picked up and dropped off by their parents every day, their faces beaming with happy smiles, their hands filled with all sorts of delicious snacks and fun toys. They can spend weekends playing in the park and enjoying happy times at the amusement park with their parents.
Li Peiyu, on the other hand, had to rush home after school to help her grandmother with housework, such as washing clothes, cooking, and cleaning. Her young shoulders bore the heavy burden of life far too early.
During holidays, she could only stay at home with her grandmother, listening to her cough, her heart filled with helplessness and sorrow. How she longed to be like her classmates, to have the love of her parents and a carefree life.
Deep within her heart, a strong longing often welled up. She longed to see her parents waiting at the school gate after school, to be embraced tightly by them, and to hear their caring words. She longed for carefully prepared gifts and warm wishes from her parents on her birthday, instead of just her grandmother's strained smile and simple meals. She longed to be able to run into her parents' arms and cry freely when she encountered difficulties and setbacks, to receive their comfort and encouragement, instead of having to bear everything alone in silence.
She longed for the warmth of a complete family, and the feeling of being cherished and protected by her parents.
This longing burned like a flame in her heart, yet it was always ruthlessly extinguished by cruel reality.
She secretly went to see her parents, but when she appeared before them full of joy, their faces showed indifference and disdain, showing no intention of welcoming her at all. Their cold eyes and harsh attitude were like sharp knives piercing her heart.
Li Peiyu hates her parents and everyone who abandoned her.
She hated Lu Yuzhi.
But I love him very much.
Li Peiyu thought she should forget him as soon as possible.
Lu Yuzhi's situation was actually quite similar. From a young age, his mother showed him no love whatsoever and never gave him the care and warmth he deserved.
After he grew up, he fell deeply in love with someone and foolishly gave everything for her without reservation. However, in the end, he was cruelly abandoned by her without any mercy.
Once bitten by a snake, twice shy.
Both of them are too fragile.
They are adept at feigning affection, but once they realize that something is serious, they are more vigilant and afraid than the average person.
