Chapter 20 An Unintentional Confession
Chapter 20 An Unintentional Confession
A corner of the university campus, which was originally peaceful and tranquil, was suddenly filled with noise because of a grand and romantic candlelight confession on a midsummer night.
The instigator of all this was standing downstairs of the girls' dormitory, holding a large bouquet of bright red roses and shouting Chi Shu's name. Chi Shu could not ignore his behavior and had to accept the invitation to go, in order to calm the situation.
Chi Shu originally really didn't want to break someone's heart or embarrass someone in front of so many people, but in the current situation, if he didn't express his position directly and clearly, it might cause constant misunderstandings.
She pursed her lips, looked up at the boy holding the flowers, and said calmly: "Classmate, I'm sorry. Although I appreciate your kindness, I don't have any plans to fall in love for the time being..."
Unfortunately, before Chi Shu could finish his words, the person opposite him interrupted him, as if he was angry and embarrassed: "No plans to fall in love? Do you think I don't know that you are pursuing a senior brother? He has done nothing, but you still chase him. I put so much thought into the confession, and you actually rejected it outright! What are you so proud of? Who is he?"
His words undoubtedly humiliated both of them, so Chi Shu could no longer tolerate it.
Chi Shu looked around and spoke without hesitation, his tone slow and firm:
"Student, please be mindful of your words! Also, flowers, confessions, and cheers—these only appear romantic when presented on the right platform and in the right context. But the reality is, you and I don't know each other well, and you don't know me well either, so these elements serve no purpose other than to embarrass and embarrass me."
She took a deep breath, and her voice suddenly became somewhat gentle as if the scene had changed:
"Besides, the person you just mentioned isn't some other 'thing'; he's my source of light. Long before you knew it, he'd already accompanied me through many lonely and dark moments. So, it's not that he did nothing; just by standing there, he was the one I desired."
…
In this university campus where new things are constantly emerging, Chi Shu didn't know how this boy got so angry that he said, "The first time is strange, the second time is familiar. Just wait and see what you can say next time" and then left in anger.
Chi Shu had no idea how the crowd of onlookers dispersed one after another after whispering.
Chi Shu only knew that she was very tired at the moment. She didn't want to go back to the dormitory, didn't want to explain anything, and didn't want to contact anyone. She just walked aimlessly along the woods.
Chi Shu walked slowly, looking up at the twinkling starry sky, and suddenly smiled self-deprecatingly, his mind full of complicated thoughts:
I can express my long-held feelings to a stranger, but I always hesitate to take that step towards that person. I always consider too much, afraid that our feelings will be hindered and damaged, afraid of not seeing the future, afraid of hurting my beloved...
My messy thoughts were suddenly disturbed by a ringtone. It was Ji Jinyi calling.
This made Chi Shu's heart tremble for no reason.
Chi Shu thought Ji Jinyi knew what had just happened, so she answered the phone hesitantly, her voice a little hoarse: "...Mom."
On the other end of the phone, Ji Jinyi's voice was still cold, but not because of this matter.
Before Chi Shu could even let go of the heavy stone in her chest and take a breath, the voices on the other end of the phone kept coming in. But apart from inexplicably harsh accusations and warnings for her to focus on her studies, there was nothing else.
Chi Shu hadn't been expecting this. Hadn't it been like this for so many years? However, at this moment, her steps became heavier, so heavy that she found it difficult to move forward.
So she stopped there, head down, wondering what she was thinking.
It wasn't until she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder that Chi Shu slowly came back to her senses. She watched in silence as the man turned to face her. The alternating light of light and darkness cast a soft shadow behind him, imprinting it softly in her eyes.
Only then did she seem to realize that there were street lights at this intersection.
One step away, Feng Yichen lowered his head and looked at her tenderly, with only her in his eyes.
So somehow, Chi Shu felt that the tears that he had been able to hold back just now could no longer be controlled.
Feng Yichen was stunned for a moment, suddenly remembering that she was like this in the corridor during her senior year of high school - she was clearly the one being misunderstood and wronged, but she didn't shed a single tear. But when she was in front of him, her eyes reddened uncontrollably and became misty with tears.
They were still young that year, and he could only stay with her quietly.
But now, it's different.
Feng Yichen raised his hand and gently stroked Chi Shu's cheek. His slightly cool fingertips were wet by the warm yet surging tears. He gently wiped away the tear marks, his heart as if being gripped, and even his voice was a little dry: "Are you wronged?"
The person in front of him just lowered his head and remained silent. When he heard the words, he let out an almost uncontrollable sob, but shook his head gently.
Feng Yichen's heart was clenched. He took a step forward to close the distance and gently held Chi Shu in his arms, letting her cry and vent in his arms. His palms as soft as jade gently stroked her hair, silently soothing her emotions.
The confession just now had caused such a big commotion that when he heard his roommate mention it, he felt terrified.
Even though those sincere confessions from Chi Shu's mouth moved him;
But I could only feel distressed when I imagined the trouble that the situation at that time would bring to Chi Shu.
As expected, when he hurriedly rushed over and found Chi Shu again, Chi Shu seemed to be on the verge of collapse because of the phone call.
Seeing Chi Shu so sad and miserable, Feng Yichen felt even more distressed in his heart. He couldn't help but close his eyes and hugged her tighter, feeling extremely heartbroken.
