Chapter 14: Raising a Cub, Day 14

In the evening, the yellow sunset light shines on the slightly dusty wooden clock, casting a faint golden glow.

Wei Xu sat on a small stool and leaned over the coffee table to write.

He had already finished his weekend homework and was now holding a pen and carefully copying the verses on the copybook.

Suddenly he seemed to realize something, turned his head abruptly, and then met the eyes of Wei You who was standing at the door.

Wei Xu's eyes lit up instantly, and a sweet smile appeared on his lips involuntarily. Then he opened his arms and rushed towards the young man.

"elder brother!"

Wei You squatted down and caught his embrace accurately. He raised his hand to ruffle Wei Xu's hair, and then said, "It's only been a day since we last met. Do you miss me so much?"

Wei Xu nodded, and as if that wasn't intimate enough, he pressed his face against Wei You's shoulder, absorbing the reassuring scent from him.

Wei You patted his back and sighed, "Little clingy guy."

Wei Xu hugged his arms even tighter, his eyes filled with uncontrollable smiles.

After releasing his embrace, Wei You stood up and asked, "Have you eaten?"

The boy shook his head: "No."

"I knew it." Wei You opened the milk tea bag, took out a cup of still hot taro paste Bobo milk tea and handed it to him, saying, "Drink this first to fill your stomach. I'll go make you some food."

Wei Xu took the milk tea and the straw and looked at the taro paste inside with curiosity.

Wei You thought he would ask what was inside, but he didn't expect the kid to say, "It's expensive."

"Um?"

Wei Xu raised the cup and showed him the price on the label: "Eighteen dollars, so expensive."

"Well... it's a bit expensive indeed," Wei You agreed, "but since I'm buying it for Gua Zai, I'm willing to spend it no matter how expensive it is."

Wei Xu's ears turned slightly red as he listened. He lowered his head, inserted the straw into the cup, took a sip of milk tea and taro paste through the straw, and then his eyes widened slightly.

Wei You observed his changing expression and asked, "Is it delicious?"

Wei Xu nodded vigorously, "It tastes good."

"I'll put another cup in the fridge for you to drink tomorrow."

Wei Xu held the milk tea cup in both hands, tilted his head and asked, "Brother, don't you want to drink it?"

"Adults don't like such sweet things."

Wei You smiled, then picked up the milk tea, turned around and went to the kitchen, put the remaining cup into the refrigerator, and took out the ingredients purchased yesterday from the refrigerator to make dinner.

Wei Xu no longer had the heart to practice calligraphy, so he simply closed the copybook, turned on the TV and switched to the children's channel. He drank his milk tea in small sips carefully while simultaneously watching the TV and watching Wei You who was busy in the kitchen.

·

There were limited ingredients at home, so Wei You only fried two dishes, one meat and one vegetable, and made some kelp soup, and had a simple dinner.

They had dinner late, and by the time they had finished washing the dishes, darkness had completely enveloped the windows.

Wei You looked at the time. It would be half past seven in five minutes.

He wiped his hands and sat on the sofa, asking Wei Xu beside him: "What time will your dad be back?"

Wei Xu tilted his head and thought for a moment, then replied, "About eleven o'clock."

Wei You nodded and said, "You stay at home. I'll find a hotel outside later."

Before renting the room next door, he was not planning to show up in front of Wei Shaodong for the time being, as he currently lacked a legitimate identity.

The boy frowned and said, "When dad comes back, brother can hide in Guazi's room."

Wei You raised his eyebrows and looked at him sideways: "If your father is at home tomorrow, will I hide in your closet all the time?"

Wei Xu thought about it seriously for a while, then nodded.

Wei You didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He pinched the soft flesh on his cheek and shook it left and right: "You can't eat or go to the toilet while hiding in the closet. Do you want to suffocate me to death?"

Wei Xu rubbed his face and suddenly realized that this method did have some loopholes.

"Okay, don't think about it. I'll stay here with you until eight o'clock, and then I'll go out and find a hotel to stay in," Wei You decided. "I remember there's a hotel next to the fruit and vegetable shop at the entrance of the alley. It's called Fang's Hotel."

Wei Xu grabbed his wrist, stared at him with his dark eyes and said, "You idiot, go too."

"You can't go, idiot," Wei You said seriously, "If you go, I will be arrested by the police tomorrow for child trafficking."

The child's mouth turned down.

"However, you can come to see me tomorrow. It's either the one next to the fruit shop or the one diagonally across the alley. I'll ask the front desk to reserve a room number for you." Wei You added.

Wei Xu's eyes immediately lit up: "Then I'll come to see you tomorrow morning."

Wei You frowned in embarrassment, then smiled bitterly at the boy's expectant eyes and said, "Don't go too early, at least let brother sleep in."

"Um!"

After making the agreement, Wei You finally got rid of the little clingy guy temporarily and checked into Fang Yi Hotel next to the fruit shop that night.

The hotel room was old, with no TV or other entertainment equipment. Fortunately, the bed was dry and comfortable. Considering it only cost twenty dollars a night, Wei You accepted it.

When he went out, he brought a tablet with him so that he would be able to go out without his cell phone and watch and not know the time.

Wei You played a few single-player games in bed because he was too bored and went to bed early. He thought he could sleep in tomorrow because he didn't have to send his children to school, but he forgot that he was sleeping in a crowded hotel.

The next morning, Wei You was awakened by the noises from the street. Then his ears were filled with the honking of the fruit shop downstairs and the laughter of the guests in the next room. Even covering himself with a quilt could not block out the noise.

It was difficult to fall asleep again in such a noisy environment, and he finally got up reluctantly.

Now that we have started, we might as well do what needs to be done.

Thinking of this, Wei You packed all the things he brought into his backpack, put on his backpack and walked out of the hotel.

A few minutes later, he returned to the residential building where Wei Xu lived.

But this time he didn't go to find Guazi, but to find Grandma Li who lived next door to Guazi.

Aunt Li’s husband and son are also here today. Just as they said at the beginning, their family is preparing to officially move out today.

Wei You was invited into the house by Aunt Li's son Zheng Minglang. As soon as he entered, he found that the house seemed much more spacious than the last time he visited.

The landscape paintings and calligraphy on the walls had been taken down, and everything that could be taken away from the room had also been taken away. When one walked into the living room, one could only see a row of bare sofa chairs and a cold, hard mahogany dining table.

I have already seen the house last time and discussed all the details with Aunt Li. This time I came here mainly to sign the contract and hand over the keys.

The family was in a hurry, so without much chatting, Zheng Minglang took out the contract that he had prepared long ago from his bag.

Just as Wei You was about to sign, Aunt Li suddenly asked, "Xiao Wei, do you want to tell Xiao Wei and Wei Shaodong about renting this place?"

Wei You's heart skipped a beat, thinking that she doubted the identity he had fabricated before. Just as he was about to say something to cover it up, the other party's son said, "Yes, he should be at home now. You should move in. If you have some large items, you can ask him to load them in a truck. It will be more convenient."

Wei You smiled and said, "Forget it. Although we are relatives, you also know my cousin..."

He hesitated to speak, but Aunt Li took over his unfinished words: "Oh... that's right, you probably don't have much contact with Shaodong."

"We're not familiar with each other, and we haven't met each other very often," Wei You said, "I moved here just to take care of Guazi for my cousin."

Zheng Minglang shrugged and smiled: "It's okay, we're neighbors, we'll get to know each other after living together for a few days!"

Wei You raised the corner of his mouth, did not respond, picked up the pen and signed the contract.

After that, he paid the rent and deposit of 4,550 yuan, got a set of house keys and the phone numbers of his son and husband from Aunt Li, and the house was rented.

Aunt Li's family was preparing to leave at noon, and Wei You could have stayed in the rental house and waited for them to leave, but thinking that Wei Xu might come to the hotel to find him, he returned to the hotel.

As time approaches noon, the temperature on the streets gradually rises and the aroma of food from restaurants wafts through the streets.

Wei You, who hadn't had breakfast, felt a little hungry. He was thinking about buying something to eat after checking out of the hotel.

As soon as he pushed open the glass door of the hotel, Wei You saw a familiar little figure sitting on the red leather sofa opposite the front desk.

When the other party saw him come in, he immediately jumped up. Due to his big movement, the two rabbit ears on his hat also jumped.

"elder brother!"

Every time Wei You saw him wearing this piece of clothes, he couldn't help but smile.

He waved to Wei Xu, and when he came up to him, he squatted down to help him straighten his hat and asked, "Have you had lunch?"

"No."

“Is it okay not to eat at home?”

"I told my dad that I was going to play at a classmate's house, and he said it was up to me."

"Okay, then you can eat with me."

Wei You rubbed his little head, and after completing the check-out procedures, he took Guazai to a street-side wonton shop to eat wontons.

The tables in the wonton shop were set up under a big camphor tree. Wei You and Wei Xu picked a seat under the shade of the tree and sat down, and ordered two large bowls of wontons.

The boss moved quickly, and before long, two bowls of clear soup wontons with chopped green onions were served on the table.

Wei You poured some vinegar into the bowl, added two spoonfuls of chili sauce, and stirred it with a spoon.

Wei Xu followed suit and poured some vinegar on his wontons. When he scooped up a spoonful of chili sauce and was about to put it into the bowl, Wei You grabbed his wrist.

He asked, "Can you eat spicy food?"

The boy blinked, shook his head hesitantly, and said, "A little bit."

Wei You hesitated for a while and said, "Don't add it. I'm afraid you won't be able to eat it later."

Wei Xu pursed his lips and put the spoon back into the chili jar.

Seeing his reluctance, Wei You scooped up a wonton from his own soup that was dyed red by the chili sauce, blew on the hot air, and brought it to his mouth, saying, "Do you have the courage to try it?"

Wei Xu smelled a strong spicy smell. He wrinkled his nose, took a small bite tentatively, and then his whole face suddenly wrinkled, and the skin that was white just now instantly turned pink.

Wei You laughed in a very unkind way and quickly handed him a tissue to let him spit it out.

Then, under Wei Xu's resentful eyes, she swallowed the remaining half of the wonton noodles without changing her expression, patted him on the back and said, "Little friend, you still need to practice hard."

Wei Xu nodded reluctantly, but there was a smile in his eyes.

He hadn't felt such an atmosphere for a long time. He was eating steaming wontons on the street with his favorite brother, feeling the warm breeze blowing through the branches and leaves, and looking at the people coming and going on the opposite street, carefree, as if no troubles could affect him.

When the wontons were almost finished, Wei Xu asked, "What are we going to do this afternoon?"

Wei You looked up at him: "Have you finished your homework?"

“It’s all done.”

Wei You slowly swallowed the last wonton, drank another sip of soup, wiped his mouth and said, "Then come with me to go shopping."

"ah?"

"Buy some daily necessities." Wei You roughly listed a few necessities, "Quilts, pillows, bedding sets, pots and pans, and toiletries."

Wei Xu still had a puzzled expression on his face, tilting his head and asking, "Why do you want to buy a quilt?"

Wei You pursed his lips and smiled: "You'll know later, kid."
