Chapter 22 Raising a Cub Day 22

“Ding! Ding!”

When Wei You woke up, two deep and loud bell sounds rang in his ears.

He turned and looked at the clock on the cabinet, and the hour hand stopped exactly at two o'clock in the afternoon.

Looking around, the room hadn't changed at all. The light was still dim, the furniture was still crowded, and the air was still filled with a faint smell of kitchen fumes mixed with laundry detergent.

The weather is a little hot and humid, it should still be summer.

Without staying long in Wei Shaodong's house, Wei You quickly opened the door and walked out, took out the key from his bag and opened the door opposite.

The moment the door opened, a rich scent of lilies wafted out.

I glanced towards the dining table, and sure enough, there were two blooming lilies in the waisted glass vase.

He closed the door quietly, changed into slippers and walked into the house. He glanced around and found that the whole house seemed to have hardly changed. At most, the books on the bookcase were a little crowded, and the succulent potted plants he bought at a discount had grown bigger and more luxuriant.

Other than that, the home was exactly as it was when he first moved in.

Wei You put down his backpack and felt a little thirsty, so he walked to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator to see if there was any ice water or drinks inside.

I was a little surprised at first glance. There were quite a few vegetables stuffed in the refrigerated area, including purchased pickles, fresh vegetables, and leftovers that seemed to be half-eaten and put away. There was even a box of dumplings on the top layer.

Wei You was a little surprised, thinking that it seemed that this kid was quite good at living when he was not around.

He did not touch the dishes. He just took a bag of fresh milk to quench his thirst. Seeing bread on the table outside, he took two more slices of bread to fill his stomach.

It was still a bit stuffy staying in the outer room, so Wei You opened his bedroom door with milk and bread in his mouth, and was shocked again.

He hasn't been back for more than a year, and there's still bedding on the bed in this room?

He lifted a corner of the quilt and sniffed it.

Yes, the quilt had just been dried in the sun and had a smell of the sun. There was still a faint scent of soap on the quilt cover. It must be that Wei Xu had been changing, washing and drying his bedding.

He is worthy of being the good kid he raised, he is as hardworking and capable as when he was a child!

Wei You originally wanted to take a nap in the rocking chair. Since the bed was made, he turned on the air conditioner directly. After eating milk bread, he washed his face and got into bed to catch up on his sleep.

He slept very comfortably until he heard the sound of a key being inserted into the door lock outside.

I guess Wei Xu is back.

Wei You rubbed his eyes, got out of bed, opened the curtains, and the golden sunlight of the setting sun slanted into the room.

He stretched, turned around to open the door, and the next moment he was suddenly faced with a face that was very familiar yet a little strange.

Wei You was stunned for a moment, blinked, and was a little hesitant to recognize him.

In front of him was a handsome boy wearing a snow-white school uniform with the zipper of his jacket open, revealing the white T-shirt underneath.

Although the clothes and pants are a bit loose, they look just right on this thin and tall boy.

Wei You couldn't help but compare the other person's height to his chest, and then he was surprised.

He hasn't been back for just over a year, how come that little kid who never grows no matter how much he eats has suddenly grown so tall!

Not only has she grown taller, but her hair has also been cut shorter. The cute bangs she used to have are gone, replaced by neat, messy hair above her eyebrows.

Perhaps because he grew too tall all of a sudden, he couldn't get enough nutrition, and the baby fat on his cheeks disappeared, making the outline of his thin and tall nose clearer. His expressionless face unsurprisingly revealed a sense of coldness and arrogance.

His little kid has grown into a serious and handsome young boy.

Realizing this, Wei You was both happy and inexplicably a little regretful. He scanned his entire body, then raised his eyebrows and asked, "Are you in middle school?"

Wei Xu nodded.

"The school uniform is pretty nice." Wei You identified the logo on his chest, "Xiangfang Second Junior High School."

"I went to No. 2 Middle School because the school uniform looked good," said Wei Xu.

He hasn't reached the voice change period yet, but his voice is obviously that of a teenager.

The change was so great that Wei You suddenly found himself at a loss as to how to get along with him.

"Don't block the door," he coughed lightly and walked out, "Did you notice that I'm back?"

"I saw the backpack." Wei Xu followed closely behind him.

"Oh." Wei You glanced at his backpack on the coffee table and found a plastic bag next to it. Through the green plastic film, he could vaguely see some chopped pork ribs inside.

"You bought some groceries and now you cook for yourself?"

"Well, I'm not doing well. I'm still learning."

"That's good. You should learn to cook as soon as possible."

Wei You picked up the bag of ribs and went into the kitchen, saying, "But I'm back today, so I'll cook dinner. What kind of ribs do you want to eat?"

Without waiting for a response, he turned around and saw Wei Xu standing in the familiar position by the kitchen door. The light of the sunset reflected on the upper half of his face, making his eyes clear and bright.

Wei You suddenly discovered that there was actually one thing about Guazai that hadn't changed, namely his slightly upturned cat-like eyes.

When he opens his eyes wide and looks up in a certain direction, he still gives people a pitiful feeling.

"I'm fine with anything. I'll eat whatever you cook." Wei Xu walked into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator door, took out a cucumber and a bag of Chinese cabbage, and said, "I'll help you."

"Okay, cook the meal as well. Put more rice in it. I'm a little hungry."

Now that Guazai has grown into a young and energetic teenager, Wei You no longer takes care of him as carefully as before and just uses him wherever he can.

Due to limited ingredients, we only made a simple dinner of one meat and two vegetable dishes.

The two sat down at the dining table, still sitting face to face to eat as before.

At first the atmosphere was a bit silent, so Wei You took the initiative to ask, "How do you feel about becoming a junior high school student? Is school life interesting?"

"Not bad." Wei Xu said indifferently, and then seemed to realize that his answer was too simple, and added: "It's more fulfilling than elementary school."

"I've been away for over a year. Has anything major happened?"

"What kind of big thing?"

"Which one has the greatest impact on you?"

"Nothing..." Wei Xu thought for a moment, then pretended to be casual and said, "I got the first place in the elementary school graduation exam, does that count?"

"Of course that's fine," Wei You smiled. "There are only a few graduation exams in life, and it's rare to get first place. It's a pity that I'm not here, otherwise I would definitely celebrate."

Wei Xu picked up a piece of pork ribs and put it in the bowl, then lowered his head and ate quietly, not knowing whether he was shy or thinking about something else.

After a while of silence, Wei You said, "I'm sorry, I was too busy with work and it took me so long to come back to see you."

"It's okay," Wei Xu said nonchalantly while lowering his head to eat, "You just missed my elementary school graduation ceremony, junior high school entrance ceremony, and two birthdays."

Wei You kicked him lightly under the table. When he looked up, he teased him, "You're so young, but you hold a grudge?"

Wei Xu stared at him and blinked. He had probably never heard Wei You talk to him like this before, so he was a little confused.

In his impression, his brother is always gentle, will obey him and coax him, and never say anything harsh to him.

But just now, his brother kicked him.

This gave Wei Xu a novel feeling, as if he had discovered his brother's true character for the first time.

"I have finished my work and can now relax for a while," said Wei You.

Wei Xu opened his eyes slightly: "Are you not leaving?"

"I'm not leaving."

Wei Xu nodded and lowered his eyes to look at the ribs in front of him, without showing any particularly obvious excitement as before.

But Wei You found that when he lowered his head, the corners of his lips curled up slightly.

The smile was fleeting, but it finally made him feel relieved that the child should be happy.
