Chapter 56: Raising a Cub Day 56

Upon learning that Wei You had no intention of stopping him from going to Xuchang, Wei Xu immediately sent him the address of the rental house. The address was not far from Wei You's home, only about eight or nine stops away by subway.

However, since the community where he rented a house was relatively remote, he had to walk a long distance after exiting the subway station. Although Wei You rushed there after breakfast, it was already nearly eleven o'clock by then.

Worried that Wei You couldn't find his place, Wei Xu waited at the gate of the community early. After the two met, Wei Xu took him back to his small rental house.

This community has obviously been built many years ago, and the side walls of several buildings are covered with ivy.

The building that Wei Xu rented didn't even have an elevator. When Wei You heard that he lived on the seventh floor, his legs and feet suddenly felt weak.

"It's not really the seventh floor, it's just the attic above the sixth floor."

"So do you climb up and down like this every day?" Wei You couldn't remember how long it had been since he climbed such a high floor of stairs. After the fourth floor, he began to feel out of breath.

Wei Xu was obviously used to it. Seeing that he was struggling, he slowed down his pace as he walked up the stairs with him. His steps and breathing were steady as he spoke: "Well, the rent is cheap after all."

Wei You nodded and agreed: "Indeed, it also saves the cost of fitness."

I climbed up to the seventh floor breathlessly, and at the turn of the stairs there was a door. This was the highest floor of the building.

Wei Xu used the key to unlock the door. When he pushed the door open, a warm smell of sunshine hit him in the face. Wei You walked into the room and raised his eyebrows in surprise.

He originally thought the room would be small and damp because it looked so shabby from the outside, but it turned out to be more spacious and comfortable than he expected.

The attic is indeed an attic, with a sloping roof, but the room has obviously been carefully renovated by the original owner. The floor and ceiling are covered with smooth wooden boards, and the walls are painted in a color between green and blue. There are several old movie posters hanging on the walls, which has a very literary and artistic style.

The room is not particularly big, but it is large enough to accommodate furniture for one person. There is also an independent bathroom next to the door, so the conditions are pretty good.

What caught Wei You's eye at first sight was the floor-to-ceiling glass door and window facing the bed. Wei Xu did not close the glass door before going out, so the early spring afternoon sunshine was spreading on the floor without any obstruction. The slightly warm breeze made the lace curtains beside the glass door flutter gently, and the picture was as beautiful as an oil painting.

Wei You walked through the glass door and looked outside on the rooftop.

Compared to the interior of the room, the undecorated rooftop was much rougher. The cement floor was cracked in many places, and the edges and corners were covered with moss, looking a little dirty.

However, this place has good sunshine and is a great place to dry clothes.

Wei You came back from the rooftop and asked curiously, "Your place is nice, how much is the rent?"

"One thousand and two."

"Wow, that's cheap. Even though the floors are a bit high, the decoration is definitely worth it."

"Well, the landlord is a photographer I met when I was a model. This was his original studio. Now he has opened a studio somewhere else, so he rents this place to me at a low price." Wei Xu said as he took out ice water from the refrigerator, poured it into a glass, and gave it to Wei You to quench his thirst.

"No wonder. I said the atmosphere of this place looked familiar. It turns out to be a photo studio." Wei You took two sips of ice water, walked to the bookcase and flipped through the old magazines in the basket.

Wei Xu sat on the sofa, his eyes following Wei You, not saying anything and doing nothing, as if he was enjoying the time alone with his brother.

Wei You noticed that many of the places on the bookcase where things should be placed were empty. He glanced at the two cardboard boxes and the suitcase next to the coffee table and chuckled, "Have you been busy packing things instead of answering the phone these past two days?"

Wei Xu explained without much confidence: "When you called me yesterday, I didn't have my phone with me."

"You didn't call back, did you?"

Wei Xu pursed his lips and didn't dare to respond.

Wei You was too lazy to pursue the matter further. He put the cup on the coffee table, squatted down and looked at the contents of the cardboard box. Seeing that it was filled with almost all notebooks and books, he asked, "Do you want to take all of these away?"

"Well, it's someone else's house after all, and I don't feel comfortable leaving some important things here."

Wei Xu said: "Originally, I wanted to wait until you arrived in Xuchang, then ask you for your address and send these things over."

"You are very clever then."

Wei You pulled out a notebook from the box, thinking it was Wei Xu's study notes. However, when he opened it, he saw a line of date and time written on it in an obvious diary format, so he immediately closed it and put it back in the box.

He then realized that the box was filled with similar notebooks, and couldn't help but ask in surprise: "Is this box full of diaries?"

"Yeah." Wei Xu nodded in response.

Wei You roughly counted the notebooks in the box. There were at least twenty of them. "That's too many. Are you still writing in your diary every day?"

Wei Xu shook his head: "No, now I only write when I encounter something I want to record."

"That's tiring enough. When are you going to send them out?"

"Wait and see if there's any express delivery. If it's too late, I'll have to take it to the express delivery station myself."

Wei You thought for a moment and suggested, "If you don't read this box of books often, why don't you move it to my house first? It's troublesome to send two boxes of books back and forth."

Wei Xu happily said: "Okay, but some reference books may be used and need to be sorted out."

"Then hurry up and pack it up now. I'll move the things over when I get back later."

Wei Xu responded, stood up and started packing the things in the box again.

Seeing him take out a thick diary and stack it on the coffee table, tying it together with a thin hemp rope he found from somewhere, Wei You said, "Don't worry, I won't read your diary."

Wei Xu raised his eyes and said, "You can look."

Wei You raised his eyebrows: "Really? Isn't this your diary?"

"Well, but I don't have any secrets to keep from you anyway, so it's okay to give all these things to you." Wei Xu said frankly.

In fact, he really wanted Wei You to look at him more, so that the other party would be able to understand and comprehend the many complicated emotions that he could not express over the years.

Wei You thought he was joking and said with a smile: "What do I need your diary for? Keep it for your own collection." Then he bent down and helped him organize it.

That's what he said at the moment, but before going to bed at night, Wei You saw the box of diaries next to the bedside table and couldn't help his curiosity.

A half-opened ordinary cardboard box, because it contained Wei Xu's past thoughts for more than ten years, was now like a treasure chest waiting to be opened by him, exuding an enchanting fragrance to tempt him.

He wanted to read the diary. On the one hand, he was curious about Wei Xu's inner thoughts about him. On the other hand, he also wanted to know what the other party had been doing during the five years when he was away.

Since Wei Xu said that he could look through the books at will, Wei You did not try to suppress his desire. After opening the box, he untied the hemp ropes, searched for a moment, and then pulled out the diary that he had opened during the day.

He remembered that the date he casually opened was 2016, one year after he left.

Feeling a little nervous, Wei You sat down at the head of the bed with the diary in his hands, leaned against the pillow, and opened the first page of the diary.

The author has something to say: I can’t write anymore, I really can’t write anymore
