Chapter 23

Ye Minghan walked down the stairs, his brows furrowed, thinking about what had just happened on the balcony.

As soon as I arrived on the first floor, I heard a woman's voice faintly coming from the living room.

One is his mother, the other is...

His eyes lit up, and he walked into the living room in cotton slippers. On the sofa, two women, one big and one small, were chatting intently and did not notice his arrival.

He was still thinking about how to get their attention when he saw several photo albums spread out on the table.

A bad feeling arose in his heart.

Ye Minghan walked towards them quickly, and when he looked down, he saw his mother holding the photo in her hand, looking at it with Chi Rui!

How could such a dark history be shown to a little girl? !

"Ahan, when are you coming? Why are you walking without making any sound?"

An Xin, whose photos were taken away, glared at her son with some dissatisfaction and muttered.

Ye Minghan ignored her and looked at Chi Rui beside him.

A faint smile was still hanging on the girl's lips, and when he glared at her, she pursed her lips and looked at him innocently.

Ye Minghan couldn't help but grit his teeth. He didn't know whether he was embarrassed or angry, but both of his ears turned red.

"Don't show my photo to anyone else!"

He glared at An Xin again, spoke angrily, and ran back upstairs with the photo.

"What are you going to do with the photos?"

An Xin chased him down the stairs, looked up and shouted at him.

"I'm telling you, it's no use destroying it. I have an electronic backup. You can print as many copies as you want."

There was a faint sound of angry roar coming from upstairs, followed by the sound of a door slamming shut.

An Xin came back laughing.

It's better to be angry than to be cold.

But my son is so cute when he is angry. I haven’t seen such a lively expression on his face for a long time.

Chi Rui stood beside the sofa, feeling a little helpless.

I didn't expect that the person in the photo was really Brother Ye...

"Don't be afraid, Ruirui. He's just yelling nonsense. He'll be fine tomorrow."

An Xin said with a smile, looking heartless, "It's getting late, are you going to bed?"

Chi Rui shook his head, "I want to read some more."

"Okay then, I don't need your help here. Go back to your room and don't stay up too late."

"Yeah, okay."

Chi Rui took the cup, went to the kitchen to make a cup of green tea, and brought it upstairs to the room.

Sitting back down, she looked up at the clock.

After such a delay, the clock hand has already pointed to ten o'clock.

Chi Rui picked up the cup and took a few sips of tea, then he perked up, put all distracting thoughts behind him, and started doing the test paper.

An hour and a half later, she finally finished all her homework.

Although the new teachers assigned a lot of homework, it was about one-third less than when she was at South City High School, so it was much easier for her to do it.

She stretched, packed up all her notebooks and documents, picked up her backpack and was about to put her things in it, but she accidentally saw something shiny in the bag.

It was Ye Minghan who gave her the pen.

Chi Rui paused and carefully took out the pen.

The silver signing pen glowed faintly under the desk lamp.

She held the pen and wrote the word "Han" on the draft paper. This word was elegant and upright, and her writing style was different from her usual style.

She felt it as she held the pen.

It felt as if the pen held the memories of its previous owner, guiding her as she began to write.

Imagining how Brother Ye usually signed with this pen, the girl blushed slightly.

She gently put down the pen, supported her chin with one hand, and looked at the word "Han" with lowered eyebrows.

What is Brother Ye doing now? Is he still angry?

He looked really angry just now...

However, Brother Ye was so cute when he was a child, he seemed even more handsome than girls.

She slowly lay down and rested her head on her arms.

She caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of her eye, blinked, and stood up and walked to the dressing table.

Next to the mirror, there was a neatly folded handkerchief, made of snow-white silk with light blue patterns embroidered on the edges.

This was what Brother Ye used to bandage her wound when she fell. She washed it but forgot to return it to him.

Chi Rui thought about it, picked up the handkerchief, then tiptoed to the door, opened it and looked out.

The light in the room opposite was still on, and light was leaking out from the crack in the door.

Brother Ye should not be asleep yet.

Chi Rui was delighted. She came to Ye Minghan's door, took a deep breath, and then bent her fingers and knocked on the door gently.

In the room, Ye Minghan was leaning against the head of the bed.

After more than an hour, he had calmed down and was handling company emails with a laptop in his arms.

After looking for a while, he put down the computer and pinched his eyebrows with his fingers.

When she was about to reach out to take the bottle of mineral water on the bedside table, she inadvertently caught a glimpse of the photo he had just thrown there.

He paused, picked up the photo, and looked at it while drinking water.

There are two children in the photo, one has a bright smile, and the other is cold and has a gloomy face. Only when the little girl is holding his hand, does his eyes and eyebrows show a little tenderness.

The man's fingertips gently stroked the photo, memories flashed through his eyes. As he stroked the smiling little girl, his eyes became tender and gentle, like a pool of deep spring water.

Destroy?

If he was willing to do it, this photo would not have been preserved until now...

“Knock knock knock—”

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

Thinking it was the housekeeper or a servant, Ye Minghan was about to speak but suddenly stopped.

Everyone in the family knew that he didn't like to lock the door, so they usually just knocked twice and waited for him to respond before opening the door and coming in.

I just knocked three times. Is it...

He quickly turned the photo over and covered it on the bedside table, then walked to the door in his slippers.

He didn't open the door immediately, but held the door handle and waited for a while.

But outside the door it became quiet.

Thinking that the person had run away, Ye Minghan became anxious and opened the door immediately.

The girl in pink pajamas was standing outside the door, with her hand raised, stunned by his sudden appearance.

Ye Minghan paused and turned his head away uncomfortably.

Chi Rui reacted and lowered her head, with her hands behind her back.

Both of them were a little afraid to look at each other.

"Brother Han, are you...going to sleep? Did I disturb you?" After a long time, Chi Rui said in a low voice.

"No." Ye Minghan pursed his lips.

He glanced at her and wanted to ask what was going on with that "Brother Lang", but when the words came to his lips, they turned into: "What do you want to talk to me about?"

"Yeah." Chi Rui nodded, stretched out her little hand behind her back and handed the handkerchief to him.

"Here's your handkerchief. I washed it."

The girl raised her eyes, and when she looked at him, her deer eyes sparkled slightly, with a hint of joy in her eyes.

Ye Minghan didn't pay attention to her. He looked at the handkerchief and was obviously stunned for a moment. He probably didn't remember anything about it.

But he didn't hesitate. He nodded and took the handkerchief casually. He was a little absent-minded because he was thinking about something.

Chi Rui tugged at her fingers and whispered, "Because the handkerchief was stained with blood and couldn't be washed off, I took the initiative to embroider a few cherry blossom petals on it..."

Hearing this, Ye Minghan's heart moved.

He unfolded the handkerchief and saw a few pink petals in the corner of the square cloth.

The girl's embroidery skills are very good, and the composition is also nice. The embroidered petals match the edge patterns very well, and it looks like they were there originally.

"If you don't like it, I'll... I'll buy you another one tomorrow..."

Chi Rui stared at his toes and said embarrassedly.

"No, it's fine."

Ye Minghan curled his lips, carefully folded the handkerchief, and solemnly put it into his coat pocket.

Is it good?

Chi Rui blinked, raised his head and looked at Ye Minghan, his clear eyes shining brightly.

Although it was not a compliment at all, she still felt very happy. No, she felt super happy!

The girl grinned and showed a bright smile.

Ye Minghan put away the handkerchief and did not go back immediately. He was still thinking about how to find out who that "Brother Lang" was.

"Brother Han."

"Um?"

Chi Rui tapped her toes and said, "Actually... I think that photo is quite nice."

Photos? Ye Minghan frowned, thinking of that "dark history", and his face turned a little bad.

Chi Rui secretly glanced at him, and seeing that his face darkened again, she felt annoyed, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you angry, I just..."

I just want to talk to you.

"I'm not angry." Ye Minghan pursed his lips.

Chi Rui raised his eyes and looked at him, a little unconvinced.

Ye Minghan turned his face away and put his hands in his trouser pockets.

There was an open window at the end of the corridor, and the night wind blew in, slightly blowing the hair on his forehead.

"Do you think it looks good?" he suddenly asked softly.

Chi Rui blinked, then nodded vigorously, "Yeah!"

Ye Minghan glanced at her, complex emotions flowing in his dark eyes.

He turned his head away again, curled his lips and said, "That was you who did it."

The man's voice was muffled, but if you listened carefully, you could seem to hear some subtle grievance.

Chi Rui couldn't help but be stunned.

"Ah? I...I do it?"

She pointed her finger at herself, her big eyes full of innocence.

Ye Minghan pursed his lips tightly, looking like he didn't want to talk.

Chi Rui stared at him blankly. After a while, she lowered her eyes and said softly, "I'm sorry..."

"Why apologize?" Ye Minghan looked at her.

"It turns out that we had such a good relationship when we were young, but I don't remember anything..."

The girl's voice was soft, echoing in the empty corridor.

She lowered her head slightly, her eyes dim, lifeless and lonely.

Ye Minghan stared at her deeply for a long time before he asked in a low voice, "Really, don't you remember anything at all?"

His voice was very soft and a little cautious. Chi Rui could tell that he must value that memory very much.

But she really didn't have any impression at all...

When she thought of this, she felt very uncomfortable.

It was as if she had accidentally lost something important without her knowing.

Tears welled up in her eyes all of a sudden. She tried to blink her eyes and took a deep breath, but she couldn't stop the redness of her eyes.

"I'm sorry, Brother Han..."

She covered her eyes and her voice was clearly filled with tears.

Guilt was about to overwhelm her. How could she have forgotten such a beautiful memory?

Just when she was feeling extremely depressed, a warm, thick, big hand suddenly landed on her head and patted it gently.

Chi Rui raised his head blankly, and then froze in a daze.

It was the first time she saw Brother Ye smiling so gently. His dark eyes seemed to be filled with stars, flowing with soft and bright light.

Ye Minghan bent down slightly, rubbed her hair with his big hand, and gently curved his lips, "Why are you crying?"

Maybe it was because his voice was too gentle, Chi Rui sniffed and his eyes became moist again.

Ye Minghan had no choice but to put his hand on the back of her head, pull her towards him, and press her into his arms.

Chi Rui was slightly stunned, her forehead resting lightly on his chest.

The man pressed his hand against the top of her head, his voice low.

"alright."

"I forgive you."
