"Boring!" Su Wanwan was too lazy to argue with Jiang Shengjun, so she picked up the phone and called Ouyang Maomao to explain.
Before Su Wanwan could even think of how to explain when she made the call, Ouyang Maomao spoke first.
"Is there anything else you want to say to me? Are you regretting it? I'm not so easily fooled."
She knew that Ouyang Maomao was giving Jiang Shengjun a way out, so she handed her phone to Jiang Shengjun.
Jiang Shengjun pushed his phone away with a disdainful look, refusing to speak no matter how Su Wanwan tried to provoke him.
"Hello?"
Ouyang Maomao raised questions.
Su Wanwan had no choice but to reply.
"Kitty, it's me, Wanwan."
Ouyang Maomao was instantly enraged.
"Why are you calling me? You stole my boyfriend, and now you want to criticize me too?"
Her voice was filled with too much anger, and the amount of information in her sentence led Su Wanwan to misinterpret it.
Ouyang Maomao angrily hung up the phone.
Su Wanwan asked Jiang Shengjun, "Are you two together?"
Jiang Shengjun shook his head: "Never."
Su Wanwan threw her phone aside. "Impossible. If you've never been together, why would she say you're her boyfriend?"
She had only one close friend, Ouyang Maomao, since childhood—a friendship that meant life and death for her.
She would never do anything to harm her best friend.
This is her bottom line.
Although she married him, it was only in name. As long as she didn't make any fundamental mistakes, Su Wanwan wouldn't suffer too much internal strife.
"Jiang Shengjun, tell me clearly, what exactly happened between the two of you before? Were you ever together?"
Jiang Shengjun sat on the sofa looking at Su Wanwan, somewhat incredulous, and even confused as to why Su Wanwan would ask such a question.
His patience was running out. He stood up and walked towards Su Wanwan, gradually forcing her against the wall. He parted his thin lips slightly and said, "Can't you tell whether we're together or not?"
Looking at his face, sculpted by God, and his condescending eyes, Su Wanwan felt her heart pounding rapidly, unsure whether it was from nervousness or fear.
She took a deep breath, a hint of panic in her eyes, "I...I can't tell. If I could, would I need to ask you?"
He forcefully picked Su Wanwan up in his arms, saying, "I'll tell you properly once we're in bed."
Su Wanwan struggled helplessly: "Jiang Shengjun, don't do anything rash!"
Without saying a word, he threw Su Wanwan onto the bed and forcibly pressed himself against her.
"Jiang Shengjun, don't think that just because you gave me money, I'll repay you with my body or obey you. I'm telling you, I swear I'll never do that! I'll pay you back the money I owe you!"
Su Wanwan panicked; she really couldn't break free from him.
Jiang Shengjun only said one commanding sentence: "Pay back with your body my ass! Do you think I'm that kind of person? If you want me to stay away from you, then you'd better lie down!"
Su Wanwan curled her arms around her chest and lay obediently, adding, "You can't force yourself on me, I won't give in!"
Even though Jiang Shengjun was very angry, he couldn't bring himself to get angry at her. He just said gently, "Lie down with me for a while. I want to tell you what's on my mind."
Su Wanwan looked at his expression, the warm yellow light shining on him, making him so handsome that it could kill her.
But when she thought about how good Ouyang Maomao had been to her, and how she still did this, she felt like it could cost her her life.
Suddenly, the surrounding lights went out.
Su Wanwan asked, "Why did you turn off the light?"
Jiang Shengjun did not answer, but simply asked Su Wanwan to turn to the side.
Su Wanwan obediently did as she was told.
Jiang Shengjun turned around after her, placing his warm palm on her slightly cold waist; it felt very comforting.
He moved closer to her, his magnetic voice ringing in her ear, "Wanwan, do you believe in love at first sight?"
Su Wanwan refused bluntly, "I don't believe it. Falling in love at first sight is all about looks. That kind of love is too superficial. If one of the people who fell in love at first sight were disfigured, they might really end up abandoning each other when disaster strikes."
He held her tightly, burying his face in the back of her left neck, and vowed passionately, "I won't!"
"Are you confessing your feelings to me?" Su Wanwan asked.
Jiang Shengyun nodded frankly, then apologized: "I was confessing my feelings to you. I'm sorry I almost lost my temper with you just now. Since I've chosen to marry you, I've definitely thought it through and I want to spend my life with you. No matter who you are in the future, even if you're a criminal or a villain, I will still..."
"Stop, stop, stop! What crime? What despicable person? What are you talking about?"
Seeing Su Wanwan interrupt her, Jiang Shengjun became even more afraid of losing her, so he hugged her tighter, apologizing and expressing his inner vulnerability.
"I'm not afraid to admit it, but I only realized what it feels like to like someone after meeting you. Maybe this is what people call being love-struck. Although I'm a man, perhaps it's because my parents weren't around when I was young that I lacked love. So I crave your love and companionship. Therefore, no matter who you are or what kind of woman you are, I'll accept you. Besides, I was too busy before, always thinking about how to expand the family business on my own, but I never thought about using marriage to strengthen my own power."
Su Wanwan always felt that something was strange about this.
She countered Jiang Shengjun's question, "Why do I always feel like you don't love me that much, but rather treat me as a substitute for the cat?"
Jiang Shengjun was puzzled and asked why.
Su Wanwan said, "Maomao is my best friend. We've been alike since we were little. We have similar personalities and expressions. Is it possible that you don't want people to say that you succeeded in your career through a marriage of convenience, so you married me just to compensate for loving Maomao but not being able to marry her, trying to find traces of Maomao in me to fulfill the vow you made with Maomao when you were little?"
“I never made any vows with her, and I never swore any oaths to her,” Jiang Shengjun said firmly.
Su Wanwan wasn't buying it; most men are cunning and treacherous.
How can his words be as trustworthy as his best friend's?
But she didn't argue.
I've already figured out how to handle this matter.
"Do you understand what I'm saying, Wanwan?" Jiang Shengjun asked him.
"Okay, I understand."
Although Su Wanwan understood what he meant, she would never sever her relationship with her best friend for the sake of a momentary attraction.
It's normal to have feelings for someone. She knows she's attracted to attractive young professors in school, drill instructors during military training, and a different handsome male celebrity or idol at different times. She even notices a handsome guy scrolling on his phone on the subway.
But she never thought about marrying these handsome men and living together forever.
This isn't love; she knows exactly what kind of person she is.
Jiang Shengyun added, "Maybe it's a little difficult for you to fall in love with me right now, but I will try my best to make you fall in love with me. Go to sleep first, goodnight. I won't touch you until I get your consent."
Su Wanwan ignored it completely, and as soon as Jiang Shengjun went to take a shower, she immediately sent a message to Ouyang Maomao to ask her out the next day.
