Chapter 119 Exam (2/2)

She nodded: "Okay, I believe you."

*

Time flies, and suddenly it's the weekend.

In July, the sun was scorching in the sky, and the scorching sun was burning the black soil. The air was filled with a hot smell mixed with seedlings and soil.

The weeds on the ridges of the fields were wilted and drooped due to the sun.

Lin Jianxue and Fu Zhewei, one on each side, accompanied Fu Qingqing on the bumpy dirt road leading to Zhenhai High School.

Fu Qingqing specially changed into a floral dress today, which was a little pale from washing. Although it had a few inconspicuous patches on it, it was clean after being starched and washed. Her two black braids were combed neatly, and the ends of the braids were tied with a beautiful bow with a red hairband.

Her small chest rose and fell slightly, and in her arms she held tightly a pencil case wrapped in a clean cloth and several neatly folded draft papers. Her little face was filled with tension that was difficult to conceal.

Fu Zhawei also wore a relatively decent white shirt today, still with patches on it, but each patch was sewn meticulously and neatly, obviously the work of Dong Yulan.

His tall figure cast a long shadow in the morning light. He was silent all the way, only occasionally turning his head and using his deep and calm eyes to glance at the elegant Lin Jianxue beside him inconspicuously. As soon as their eyes met, he would quickly look away, as if afraid that she would notice something.

Lin Jianxue was keenly aware that he exuded an unusually tense aura, even more tense than when he himself faced any difficulties.

Finally, the somewhat mottled iron fence gate of Zhenhai High School appeared in sight.

At the school gate, there are several old locust trees with lush branches and leaves, casting a large area of shade.

Fu Zhawei stopped at the school gate, his tall figure blocking some of the dazzling sunlight.

His Adam's apple rolled, and his voice became a little deeper and hoarse than before: "I'll wait outside."

Lin Jianxue knew his concerns and that his identity was not suitable for entering such an occasion.

She nodded and said softly, "Okay."

Then, she turned her head and looked at Fu Qingqing, whose palms were sweating beside her. She bent down and smiled gently: "Qingqing, don't be afraid. It's just like when Sister Xiaoxue gave you a test. Just perform normally."

Fu Qingqing nodded vigorously.

Lin Jianxue held Fu Qingqing's little hand and walked into the slightly quiet campus.

As the summer heat gets stronger, the green trees on campus add a bit of coolness.

They crossed the empty playground and came to the familiar first-floor office building.

"Knock, knock, knock." Lin Jianxue raised her hand and gently knocked on the wooden door of the office at the end of the building with a sign saying "Teaching Department".

"Come in." Wang Jianjun's slightly majestic voice came from inside the door.

Lin Jianxue pushed open the slightly old wooden door and walked in with Fu Qingqing.

The light in the office was dimmer than outside, with only an old ceiling fan whirring overhead.

In addition to Wang Jianjun sitting behind the desk, there was also an old man with gray hair and wearing a pair of black-framed reading glasses sitting by the window.

The old man was about sixty years old, wearing a clean dark blue Mao suit. Although his clothes were simple, his back was straight and his eyes, looking through the glasses, showed the scrutiny and sharpness of someone who had been in a superior position for a long time.

Lin Jianxue's heart moved slightly, and she guessed that this person should be the principal of the high school.

Wang Jianjun saw Lin Jianxue leading in a pretty but somewhat timid girl. His expression was still serious, but there was less initial resistance in his eyes. He nodded slightly to Fu Qingqing as a greeting.

He pointed to a stack of test papers on his large desk, which had been prepared long ago and printed on wax paper, and said to Lin Jianxue, "Teacher Lin, these are the questions I compiled from previous college entrance examination papers and joint examinations of various schools. They are quite difficult."

"Let her do it first."

"We'll mark her work on the spot after she's done so we can see her true grade."

Lin Jianxue looked at Fu Qingqing gently, and her voice became softer, full of encouragement: "Qingqing, don't be nervous. Just like when you practiced, read the questions carefully and answer them carefully."

"Sister Xiaoxue believes in you."

Fu Qingqing looked at Lin Jianxue dependently, her clear eyes full of trust, and she nodded heavily.

She sat in front of her desk, and Wang Jianjun pointed to an empty chair next to her.

Fu Qingqing pulled out a chair and sat down, took a deep breath, took out his pen and ink bottle from the cloth bag, unscrewed the pen cap, and began to carefully review the test paper in front of him.

Lin Jianxue nodded slightly to Wang Jianjun and the principal, and said softly, "Wang Jianjun, Principal, I'll leave first and not disturb her exam."

She said softly to Fu Qingqing again: "Qingqing, I'll wait for you outside."

Fu Qingqing raised her head and gave her a sweet smile.

Lin Jianxue closed the office door gently.

She turned and went downstairs.

Downstairs of the teaching building, dense sycamore trees cast a thick shade, dispelling a lot of the heat.

Fu Zhaweiguo was still waiting under the old locust tree not far from the school gate.

His tall figure was squatting with his back to the school gate, slightly hunched. His back looked somewhat lonely and anxious under the sunlight.

He was lowering his head, holding a dry twig in his hand, unconsciously scratching in the dust under his feet, outlining one shapeless pattern after another.

Lin Jianxue lightened her steps and walked slowly across the door.

Perhaps he heard the subtle footsteps, and Fu Zhewei suddenly raised his head.

Lin Jianxue looked at his eyes filled with worry, a reassuring smile spread across the corners of her lips, and her voice was clear and pleasant: "It's okay."

"Aren't you aware of Qingqing's grades? She's great."

She paused, then added, "Although Zhenhai High School's resources are considered good in the county, there aren't many top students. Especially when compared to the truly key high schools in the province, the gap is quite obvious."

"They won't give up easily on a promising young talent like Qingqing who can bring honor to the school."

Fu Zhewei's tense jawline seemed to relax visibly after hearing her words.

He slowly exhaled the foul air that had been suppressed for a long time, and looked at Lin Jianxue with a focused and deep gaze.

"Thank you." His voice was low and sincere, with a barely perceptible tremor. These three simple words contained a thousand words.

Lin Jianxue shook her head lightly and chuckled, "You're so polite."

"We've known each other for so long."

Besides, she came here for him.

Fu Zhewei looked at her bright and charming smiling face. The afternoon sun shone through the dense branches of the old locust tree, casting mottled light and shadow on him and her. Her fair skin seemed transparent in the light and shadow, so beautiful that she did not seem like an ordinary person.

He moved his lips slightly, as if he had a lot to say, gratitude, joy, and some deeper feelings that he dared not express out loud, but in the end he just gently pursed his thin lips into a thin line.

Really, he didn't know how to thank her.

This favor is too great.

He could only engrave all of this, along with the unspeakable secret, deeply in the softest part of his heart.

Lin Jianxue knew that he was always taciturn, so she didn't say anything more. She just accompanied him and waited quietly under the shade of the tree.

Occasionally, she would talk about some interesting things in school, and Fu Zhewei would listen quietly, occasionally responding softly once or twice.

Time passed unnoticed in this strange and harmonious atmosphere between the two of them.

Lin Jianxue raised her slender wrist and glanced at the time on the exquisite little watch.

"It's almost time," she whispered to Fu Zhewei, "I'll go up and check the situation."

Fu Zhewei said "hmm" and nodded.

Lin Jianxue smiled at him, turned around and went back into the office building, and walked to the teaching director's office on the first floor with ease.

She had just walked to the half-open door, and before she had time to knock, she heard suppressed and somewhat excited voices coming from inside the office.

Wang Jianjun and the usually taciturn high school principal were standing side by side at the desk, each holding a few graded test papers in their hands. They were whispering to each other, with the same look of surprise on their faces.

Lin Jianxue breathed softly, stopped outside the door, and listened attentively.

All I could hear was the normally serious high school principal exclaiming in disbelief, surprise, and undisguised admiration: "This essay... this essay is so well written!"

"The idea is profound and novel, the writing is fluent and beautiful, and the words reveal a maturity and thoughtfulness beyond one's years! Thoughtful and profound!"

"I think this article deserves full marks!"

Next, Wang Jianjun spoke with an equally excited voice, even louder than the principal's: "Principal, please take a look at this math paper! And this physics paper!"

"They're all right! They're all right!"

"There isn't a single typo or calculation error. The problem-solving steps are clear and concise, and the thinking is rigorous and thorough!"

"This child... this child is simply a genius!"

Lin Jianxue listened to the two people praising each other, and made up her mind. Then she gently pushed open the office door and walked in gracefully.

"Wang Yuren, principal of the high school." She spoke in a clear voice with a smile on her face.

Wang Jianjun and the principal of the university, who were immersed in great surprise, raised their heads at the same time when they heard the voice. Seeing that it was Lin Jianxue, their faces were filled with an expression of excitement that could not be concealed.

Lin Jianxue's eyes swept across the test papers in their hands that were covered with red ticks, and then she looked at the two of them with a smile: "Now, do you both believe what I said?"

"I've said it before, Qingqing is definitely a rare studious person."

"It will definitely bring honor to our Zhenhai High School..."
