Fu Zhewei put on his coat in a hurry.
He walked to Lin Jianxue with his head lowered. The afternoon sun fell on his shoulders, lengthening his shadow.
His eyes were dark, yet much brighter than usual, as if he was hiding something that he hadn't said.
Lin Jianxue raised her eyes and glanced at him with a gentle smile on her lips. She didn't urge him and didn't speak a word.
Fu Zhewei's Adam's apple rolled up and down, but in the end he didn't ask, and just said in a muffled voice: "Let's go."
Lin Jianxue nodded, turned around and waved towards the courtyard, "Aunt Dong, Qingqing, let's go get something, come back soon."
Fu Qingqing chased to the door with a smile: "Sister Xiaoxue, if there is anything heavy, let me move it, he is very strong!"
Dong Yulan also smiled and nodded, "Drive slowly on the way, and call someone if you need anything."
Lin Jianxue responded, turned around and walked side by side with Fu Zhewei towards the educated youth dormitory on the east side of the village.
The spring breeze, carrying the scent of green grass, blew over from the other side of the field, slightly lifting the strands of hair on her temples.
Neither of them spoke, they walked one after the other, neither fast nor slow.
There was occasional water accumulation on the dirt road, and the two of them tacitly avoided it by staggering steps without saying a single unnecessary word, but the atmosphere became inexplicably relaxed.
No one spoke for a long while. All that could be heard was the rustling of shoes on the ground and the intermittent sound of chickens crowing and dogs barking in the distance.
Lin Jianxue caught a glimpse of Fu Zhawei's frown, as if he was about to say something but hesitated. She could not help but turn her head slightly and look at him:
"What's wrong? You've been frowning all the way here. Is there something you want to ask me?"
Fu Zhewei was exposed by her so naively. He looked away awkwardly, but couldn't help but whispered:
"...Why do you want to move out suddenly?"
Lin Jianxue raised her eyebrows and looked at him, a faint smile hidden in her dark, clear eyes:
"I'm just not happy living in the dormitory."
Fu Zhawei frowned and asked, "Someone bullied you?"
His tone suddenly turned cold, and his previously bright eyes were stained with a layer of darkness. "Is it Liu Liwen?"
Lin Jianxue glanced at him and saw that this guy was really angry. She remembered that when he was in the city, he was notorious for being unruly. Now he has learned to be patient, but the stubbornness in his bones is still there.
"Who dares to bully me? I don't even bother to pay attention to them. If I really make a fuss, they'll be crying."
She paused, then added slowly, "Actually, I just felt the dormitory was too crowded and noisy, and I didn't want to live there anymore. I'm moving out and it's more comfortable. Isn't that right?"
Fu Zhewei stared at her for a while, as if to confirm the truth, and then said sullenly: "No, I didn't say no, I just... asked casually. No?"
Lin Jianxue raised her eyebrows and smiled faintly, "Of course."
The two looked at each other and couldn't help laughing.
We were almost at the door of the educated youth dormitory.
It was afternoon, and most of the educated youth had just returned from work at the construction site or in the fields. They were resting in the yard in groups of three or four. Some were washing clothes, some were basking in the sun, and a few girls were sitting in a row against the wall, talking in very low voices.
Seeing Lin Jianxue come in, accompanied by a tall, thin, handsome boy, the whole place fell silent, and a few people exchanged glances quietly -
"Xiao Wang, look, this is the legendary 'high school classmate', right? Tsk tsk, with such good looks, no wonder the young lady is actively pursuing him!"
