In Aunt Ru's courtyard, in the woodshed.
A man, dressed in tattered clothes, had his hands tied behind his back, his face smeared with soot, and looked utterly disheveled.
It was Bi Yuan.
He was huddled in the corner, looking utterly pathetic, but his eyes were fixed on the door, as if he were waiting for someone.
For some time now, Bi Yuan has been confined to Luhetang.
He kept trying to send messages to Gu Yurong and Song Lin outside, but Yuan's servants were watching him very closely, and he never found an opportunity.
Fortunately, although the Yuan family imprisoned him, they did not intend to kill him. Bi Yuan survived by clinging to life until the day when Luhetang was shut down.
That day, Tiger Crane Hall was in chaos. Even through the door, he could sense that something serious had happened in the manor.
Bi Yuan thought the time was right, and took advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention to smash open the door. Just as he was about to run away, he was hit hard on the back of the head and passed out.
When he woke up, he was tied up in the woodshed again, but not in the same place as before.
Every day, maids would bring him dry rations and food.
Unlike the shrewd old women of Luhetang, the little maid was innocent and naive, and Bi Yuan quickly managed to get information out of her.
It turned out that this was Xingzhiyuan. Yuan had committed a serious crime and was imprisoned. Jiang Wan's men brought him here from Luhetang.
Bi Yuan had heard about Jiang Wan from Gu Yurong and knew that she and Gu Yurong were mortal enemies.
Jiang Wan locked herself in here; she definitely wasn't up to any good!
He needed to contact Gu Yurong and her son as soon as possible so they could rescue him and help him escape from this place.
So Bi Yuan bribed the maid who delivered the food and gave her his personal jade pendant, asking her to deliver it to Gu Yurong.
That jade pendant was a token of love between him and Gu Yurong. If Gu Yurong saw this jade, she would definitely try her best to save him.
The young maid, naive and inexperienced, was easily swayed by his few words and agreed to do things for him.
It has been three days since she took the jade pendant.
Bi Yuan was extremely anxious, hoping that she could bring back some good news.
Suddenly, a figure flashed past the door, and someone tiptoed closer.
Immediately afterwards, the door opened a crack, and the maidservant, after checking that no one was around, quickly slipped in.
Bi Yuan's eyes lit up: "Good sister, is everything settled?"
The maid nodded: "The things have been given to Young Master Lin. He was very excited when he saw them and said that you should prepare, as he will come to rescue you tomorrow night."
Bi Yuan was getting impatient: "Why do we have to wait until tomorrow?"
He had been imprisoned for months and couldn't stand it for even a day longer.
"Young Master, you may not know this, but Madam Jiang is keeping a close watch on the General's Mansion. Young Master Lin, you need to think of a way to devise a plan."
Bi Yuan could only nod: "I heard that Jiang Wan is cunning, so it's good that Lin'er is well prepared."
"But the area is heavily guarded, so it might be difficult for him to get close."
"Don't worry, young master," the maid said. "I'll help you to the end. Tomorrow night, I'll secretly cut the rope and take you out of the general's mansion to meet up with Young Master Lin's men."
"What? Lin'er wants me to escape from the manor?"
Bi Yuan's eyes narrowed, and she looked somewhat angry.
"Jiang has imprisoned me here for no reason, and I'm about to settle accounts with her. If this gets to the authorities, she'll be in deep trouble! Why should I have to sneak away like a thief!"
"I'll confront her face to face tomorrow! What right does she have to imprison me?! Does your General's Mansion still have any regard for the law?!"
If he leaves without a sound, who will he turn to for justice for the grievances he has suffered these past few days?
"That's what Young Master Lin said, he must have his reasons," the maid whispered. "Don't worry about it so much. We can settle the score however we want once we get out of here. Why hold a grudge now?"
Bi Yuan gritted her teeth, thinking to herself that what she said made sense.
He weighed the options in his mind and nodded in agreement.
The following evening, at the appointed time, the little maidservant arrived as expected.
"The people outside have been led away by this servant. Young master, please leave quickly."
She led Bi Yuan through the night, easily navigating the bushes. Just as they were about to leave, they suddenly heard voices coming from under the eaves not far away.
"Madam, you just let him go like that?" Judging from the voice, it was a servant from the manor.
"What else can we do? Bringing him out of Luhetang is already a huge help to the Gu family. She still wants to do something in my courtyard? If the body is discovered, I won't be able to explain myself."
The person speaking next was a woman, whose voice was filled with arrogance.
“If she did something wrong and wants to silence her, she should at least take the person outside to kill her, so as not to dirty my place.”
"Tell her to do it cleanly, so as not to implicate me."
The servant said, "Madam, rest assured, it was Young Master Lin who did it himself, so it will definitely..."
A sudden autumn gust of wind swept through the bushes, and Bi Yuan shivered.
He couldn't hear it very clearly from a distance.
But thinking about my own situation, I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine.
He took two steps closer, wanting to hear more, but the little maid urged him from behind, "Young master, let's hurry up, don't waste time."
Bi Yuan swallowed hard and followed her, her face turning slightly pale with fright.
Looking at the maid's face again, she no longer seemed innocent, but rather full of scheming.
Bi Yuan took a deep breath and patted his face.
Yu Rong had said long ago that Jiang Wan was extremely cunning, and that the scene just now might have been a deliberate act to sow discord between them.
He cannot be easily deceived.
Yu Rong was his childhood sweetheart, and Lin'er was his blood relative. They were the only people he could trust in the capital.
Thinking of Gu Yurong's gentle face, Bi Yuan seemed to find courage and followed the little maid away.
Nothing happened until they left the mansion and entered the streets and alleys outside the courtyard walls.
Bi Yuan's anxious heart gradually calmed down.
Sure enough, those words were just to deceive him, saying that Lin'er would do it herself.
How could his precious son hurt him?
The thought had barely formed when a figure suddenly appeared at the end of the street, dressed in black, a dagger gleaming in his hand.
Bi Yuan stared at the familiar face and was so shocked that she forgot to breathe.
