Granny Wu nodded.
She picked up the bowl and plate, walked around the crowd towards Xu Shu.
As she passed the pillars, she was suddenly bumped by someone coming from the opposite direction. Granny Wu quickly steadied herself so that she wouldn't drop the pastries on the ground.
When she saw the person in front of her clearly, she became even angrier: "Miss Biluo, this is the palace, what kind of behavior is this, acting so flustered?"
Biluo smiled and said, "I'm so sorry for offending you, Granny. I couldn't find my mistress and I was getting a little anxious."
Granny Wu said irritably, "She went to the side gate to get something for the old lady. You can still catch up with her if you go now."
Biluo responded and quickly walked away.
Granny Wu walked towards Xu Shu's location. As soon as she got close, she saw that Madam Sun from the Minister's residence was also there, chatting happily with Madam Zhang.
Granny Wu thought to herself, "Jiang Wan really did find Madam Sun to act as an intermediary, wanting to befriend Madam Zhang."
Fortunately, the old lady reacted quickly and managed to get the people away.
She walked up to Xu Shu, bowed respectfully, and explained her purpose.
Madam Zhang accepted the gift with a smile. She was very adept at social etiquette and never hesitated to do so. She turned to Xu Shu and said, "Why don't you thank Madam Yuan for her kindness?"
Upon closer inspection, Xu Shu's eyes widened in surprise.
Madam Zhang coughed, and Xu Shu finally reacted. Her eyes fell on the exquisite pastries in front of her, but her expression was as if she had seen a ghost.
Today she met Jiang Wan in the garden. Jiang Wan said that at the banquet, the old lady would be on good terms with her and her mother.
She didn't believe it at the time.
The Xu family and the General's Mansion have never had any relationship, and she doesn't know any Elder Madam. Why would they suddenly approach her?
Unexpectedly, Jiang Wan was right.
"Shu'er, what are you standing there for?" Madam Zhang urged.
Xu Shu came to her senses and said, "Mother, I think it would be better for me to personally thank Madam Yuan for her kindness."
Granny Wu was surprised that Xu Shu would grace her with her presence, and a look of delight spread across her face.
The old lady was looking to befriend the Xu family, and now this opportunity has come.
She hurriedly said, "The old lady likes you very much, Miss. If you talk to her for a few minutes, she will be delighted."
Xu Shu nodded, lifted her skirt, stood up, and followed Granny Wu.
As Zhang watched her retreating figure, she couldn't help but frown.
"Sister Zhang, what's wrong?" asked Madam Sun, who was standing nearby.
Madam Zhang said in surprise, "My daughter is not usually obedient. I don't know what's wrong with her today."
Madam Sun covered her mouth and laughed: "Shu'er has grown up and knows how to be polite now, isn't that good?"
Madam Zhang waved her hand: "Never mind her. We sisters haven't seen each other for a long time. Sit down, I have a lot to tell you."
The two talked for a while longer before Xu Shu returned.
She sat back down and ate the pastries on her plate. Seeing that she was acting normally, Madam Zhang paid no further attention to her.
Not long after, Xu Shu suddenly looked unwell, clutched her lower abdomen, and vomited.
Madam Zhang was startled and quickly asked, "Shu'er, what's wrong?"
"My stomach hurts, my stomach hurts," Xu Shu said, her face contorted in pain.
Madam Sun hurriedly said, "Sister Zhang, should we ask the imperial physician to take a look?"
Madam Zhang was somewhat anxious, but still shook her head: "It's not appropriate to make a fuss at the princess's birthday banquet."
She walked to Xu Shu's side: "Did you sneak some snacks again?"
Xu Shu shook her head, looking aggrieved. "I didn't." She pointed to the food on the table and said, "I only ate this today."
The food on the table was prepared by the imperial kitchen, so there won't be any problems.
Sun's gaze fell on the plate of pastries, and she paused slightly.
