Chapter 83: Ready to Abandon Her

Granny Xia got up and checked, and found that the doors and windows were locked from the outside.

The other party locked the door from the outside while I was inside. Their swift and decisive action suggests they had planned this all along.

Granny Xia gritted her teeth, and a beautiful, aloof face appeared before her eyes.

…Jiang Wan.

It must have been her!

No one but her could be so cunning!

"Madam, what should we do now? Should I break down the door?"

Granny Xia is very strong; she might actually be able to break down the door with brute force.

Song Tingyue stopped her, saying, "No, what if we wake Pei Feng? Besides, if we disturb others, we won't be able to explain ourselves."

She turned off the room lights and asked, "Has the eagle been released?"

Granny Xia nodded: "Before coming here, I had already opened the cage. Judging by the time... it should have woken up by now."

Perhaps soon, they will follow the scent and come here.

"Anyway, Jiang Wan is the one who's going to suffer. Let's just keep quiet and wait for her to be attacked."

Song Tingyue harbored resentment.

"It would be a real waste of today's good opportunity if we couldn't send Pei Feng over."

To ruin his marriage to the Ji family, we'll have to find another way.

Since it happened so suddenly, Pei Jin should be understanding.

Song Tingyue steadied herself: "Jiang Wan is really being clever by herself. It's actually a good thing that she locked the doors and windows. Pei Feng's presence here must not be discovered. When she makes a commotion, others will just think it's an empty room and won't come to check."

"But Jiang Wan may have already woken up, or perhaps she has already returned to the front hall," Xia Mama reminded her.

Wouldn't that be even better?

Song Tingyue gave a cold smile.

"Anyway, the eagle will chase after her. So what if she goes to the front hall? If she alarms the emperor, her crime will be even greater."

"I really hope that beast will have some backbone and bite her out of breath, only then can I vent my hatred!" She turned to look at Granny Xia.

You've had it for two months, are you sure you're okay with it?

Granny Xia's eyes were very deep.

"I'm just afraid it's too fierce."

In fact, she discovered that the eagle was far more ferocious than she had imagined, and that it often showed signs of disobeying her commands at night.

Things will return to normal by daybreak.

She didn't understand what was going on either.

Granny Xia told Song Tingyue, but Song Tingyue didn't care and was actually very happy.

"The fiercer the better, we'll just watch the show."

The two whispered among themselves, unaware that a corner of the roof tiles had been lifted.

The guards, dressed in black, lay in ambush above, quietly waiting for the eagle to arrive.

In the next room, Jiang Wan was also waiting for Pei Jin to arrive.

Some time has passed since the guards went to deliver the message, but there has been no movement outside.

Did Pei Jin discover something was wrong?

She frowned slightly, and just as she was about to get up, she saw a slender figure appear outside the window.

However… Pei Jin's height shouldn't be that tall.

She opened the door and saw that it was indeed Pei Xuan.

Pei Xuan gestured for her to be quiet, turned around and gently closed the door before walking to the table and leisurely pouring himself a cup of tea.

Jiang Wan asked, "Why is it you?"

“Pei Xi got drunk and broke the Emperor’s favorite celadon porcelain bottle. Pei Jin was with him to listen to his reprimand and couldn’t get away for the time being,” Pei Xuan said calmly.

Jiang Wan was slightly surprised: "Did you do this, deliberately stalling Pei Jin?"

Pei Xuan countered, "Or what if he arrives first and discovers he's fallen into your trap? Pei Jin is a deep and calculating man; you can't fool him with your sweet words."

Jiang Wan's eyes flickered slightly.

She has her own ways of dealing with Pei Jin.

Unexpectedly, Pei Xuan came all this way just to cover up her lie.

She poured herself a cup of tea and handed it to him without arguing further, saying softly, "Thank you, Your Highness."

Pei Xuan took the teacup, looked up at her, and his calm eyes reflected a glimmer of starlight.

Just as he was about to speak, a long howl suddenly came from the courtyard.

High-pitched and sharp.

Jiang Wan's expression hardened: "The Azure Eagle has arrived."

She closed the window, signaling Pei Xuan to be quiet.

Soon, the panicked cries of eunuchs and maids could be heard from outside.

"Father-in-law! Something terrible has happened! The white sparrow that Princess Anyang brought has bitten someone!"

"Has this bird gone mad? I'll catch it! Ah—help! My eyes!"

"It flew to the inner palace! Go quickly and inform His Majesty!"

Chaos erupted in the courtyard, as if people were being injured by eagles, and the screams and wails of panic grew louder and louder.

If this continues, it will soon alarm everyone at the banquet.

"Your Highness, please leave quickly," Jiang Wan whispered. "My clothes have been tampered with. If the eagle arrives, it will be dangerous for us to be in the same room."

The spices prepared by Granny Xia were very special. Although the fragrance was faint, some of the scents could only be detected by animals.

She guessed that her body was completely tainted with the smell, and that changing her clothes wouldn't get rid of it.

Jiang Wan noticed it immediately, but did not dodge.

She was prepared to risk her life.

If I don't use myself as bait, how can I lure Song Tingyue into taking the bait?

Pei Xuan sat at the table, his eyes deep and serious: "A-Qi is nearby, I will not be in danger."

Jiang Wan guessed that A Qi was the name of the beast-taming guard.

She frowned, her expression disapproving: "This has nothing to do with you, why take the risk?"

Pei Xuan glanced at her, and was about to speak when there was a knock at the door.

"Your Highness, are you inside?"

It was Pei Jin's voice.

Now that things had come to this, there was no way to leave. Jiang Wan gestured for Biluo to open the door.

Pei Jin entered the room and bowed respectfully to Pei Xuan.
