The following day, Jiang Wan prepared a gift and knocked on the door of the Commandant's Mansion with a letter.
Thanks to Pei Xi's introduction, Madam Shang readily agreed to meet her.
The two embroidered together and chatted happily until it got dark, at which point Jiang Wan returned to the general's mansion with several embroidered pieces.
Everything was going smoothly. The matriarch and Song Ziyu were busy raising money, and no one cared about her whereabouts.
After visiting the Commandant's office and verifying the matter himself, Song Ziyu felt the matter was feasible and asked Commandant Li to act as a go-between to arrange a meeting with the hermit.
That day, Shen Ci brought the news back.
"General Song instructed his subordinates to bring a few reliable men with him to Wangyue Tower tomorrow afternoon, as there must be an important meeting."
"knew."
Jiang Wan nodded and gave a few words of advice.
"This matter should not be publicized. If the elder's wife finds out, things may change."
Shen Ci agreed, but his figure remained motionless for a long time.
"Is there anything else?" Jiang Wan asked.
“I dare not interfere with what you want to do, Madam.” After hesitating for a moment, Shen Ci said, “But the Song family’s tiger tally is of great importance. If anything goes wrong, it could cause chaos and harm innocent soldiers and civilians. Please think it over.”
Jiang Wan looked up, gave him a serious look, and then suddenly smiled.
"Speaking of which, when I first found you, I promised that when the time was right, I would arrange for you to become a general in the Song family army, and it's about time now."
"You can tell me which military camp or unit you want to join. Although you are now Song Ziyu's trusted bodyguard, I have a way to make it happen."
Shen Ci was taken aback: "Is Madam blaming me for speaking too much?"
Jiang Wan shook her head: "I admire you for your concern for the people and your sense of responsibility."
"I do not wish to go to the army. As long as you do not mind, I am willing to stay by your side forever," Shen Ci said solemnly.
This time, it was Jiang Wan's turn to be somewhat surprised.
As men, who doesn't want to strive hard and achieve great things, especially someone as skilled in martial arts as Shen Ci?
If you confine yourself to your house, what future can you possibly have?
She didn't believe this was Shen Ci's true feeling; she only took it as him expressing his loyalty.
So she waved her hand and said, "I understand, you can go now." But in her heart, she was already thinking about his position in the army.
Shen Ci stopped arguing and silently withdrew.
Seeing that he was somewhat disappointed, Biluo followed after him.
“Guard Shen, don’t misunderstand. Our lady didn’t mean anything by it. She just thinks it’s a waste of your talents to be a guard.”
As she spoke, she grinned and shoved the thing in her hand over, saying, "Here, take this." Then she turned and ran back quickly.
Shen Ci opened his palm; it contained a few peanut candies.
After returning to his room, he wrote down the matter of the tiger tally on a piece of paper and sent it to Pei Xuan that very night by carrier pigeon. He then sat at the table and pondered for a moment, revealing an expression that resembled distress.
He wanted to stay in the general's mansion; he wanted to complete the task Pei Xuan had given him.
However, judging from Jiang Wan's expression, she clearly had other plans.
Jiang Wan is very perceptive. A firm refusal would definitely arouse her suspicion. It seems he needs to come up with an excuse that she can completely believe.
Shen Ci stared at the peanut candy on the table, lost in thought.
The following day, in the afternoon.
Song Ziyu, accompanied by four guards, stood in front of the Wangyue Tower.
He was extremely vigilant about this matter, arriving half an hour earlier than the agreed time. He sent people to check the area around Wangyue Tower and only entered the restaurant after confirming that everything was normal.
Just as I was about to call a servant to find a private room, I saw a servant dressed in blue walking towards me.
"Excuse me, are you General Song?"
Song Ziyu said, "That's right."
The servant bowed politely and said, "My master invites you in."
Song Ziyu, however, became slightly wary.
He had arrived half an hour earlier than expected, but the hermit had arrived even earlier.
The servant led him through a long corridor and finally stopped outside a private room at the end, reaching out to lift the beaded curtain: "General, please."
Song Ziyu carefully observed the room; it was almost the most secluded spot in the Moon Gazing Pavilion.
However, today's events should have been kept out of the public eye, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Before entering, Song Ziyu whispered to Shen Ci, "Book the room next door as well. You personally guard the door and don't allow anyone to come near."
Only then did he step into the room.
Sitting at the table was a young man dressed in a jade-colored robe with dark silver patterns. He had delicate features and a handsome appearance.
As Song Ziyu looked him over, he nodded and said, "Greetings, Mr. Yun Que."
The man replied, "General, you needn't be so polite. I am merely my master's attendant. My master is inside."
He pointed to a corner of the room, where a screen separated a secluded space, and a slender figure could be vaguely seen sitting inside.
"The master never receives guests in person; this is a habit he has developed over many years of traveling the world. Please understand, General."
"Of course, the martial arts world has its own rules, I understand."
Song Ziyu smiled and waved his hand, his wariness lessening considerably, and his tense body relaxing.
He knew, of course, that the man was not the person he wanted to see, and that his words just now were merely a test.
If the other party agrees, he will leave immediately without hesitation.
“On that day, Mr. Yun Que did not meet with us in person, but sent an attendant to negotiate. He himself sat behind the screen and only personally examined the jade when we took it out.”
This is Li Duwei's recollection of the details of his transaction with Mr. Yun Que.
So far, they all match up one by one.
Only then did Song Ziyu sit down with peace of mind. He gestured for the guards to lower the beaded curtain by the window, and after confirming that no one could see the scene inside, he took out a brocade pouch from his sleeve.
