After the matter was settled, Jiang Wan changed her clothes and prepared to go to the Ministry of Justice prison.
Before leaving, he met Song Lin at the gate of the mansion.
It was cold outside, and he was holding a hand warmer in his hands, clearly waiting for her there on purpose.
"Why did you decide to visit the prison today, Madam?" Song Lin asked.
“It’s only right that I visit your great-grandmother and father who are in prison.” Jiang Wan smiled and shook the food box in her hand. “It’s good to bring them some food to warm them up in this freezing weather.”
Song Lin grinned, his smile laced with sarcasm.
"Madam is so thoughtful."
"It just so happens that I have nothing to do today, so I'll go with you."
Jiang Wan paused, her brows furrowing slightly: "This... I'm afraid it's inconvenient."
"I have something to discuss with your father. If you want to visit them, please do so another day."
Song Lin was about to say something more when a servant ran up and said, "Young Master Lin, the Third Prince says he has something to ask you and requests your presence."
Taking advantage of the moment, Jiang Wan turned around and went out the door, as if afraid that Song Lin would follow her, and hurriedly got into the carriage.
Song Lin stared at her retreating figure and gave a cold smile.
He had sensed something was wrong while he was in the house.
Since Yuan Shi and Song Ziyu were imprisoned, Jiang Wan had never visited them once or asked them a single question. Why would she suddenly visit them in prison today?
It just so happens that it was the day the Third Prince came to visit.
Clearly, she knew the Third Prince was coming and chose an opportunity when she and her mother were both busy to go alone.
Looking at her current attitude of avoiding the issue, there's definitely something wrong.
Song Lin called over the servant beside him: "Follow her."
In the Ministry of Justice prison.
Upon hearing that Jiang Wan had come to visit in person, both Yuan Shi and Song Ziyu were astonished.
They stared at Jiang Wan, who was smiling and chatting in front of them, with great vigilance.
"You shameless woman, what are you doing here!" Song Ziyu gritted her teeth.
Meeting his resentful gaze, Jiang Wan smiled gently and gestured to Biluo to hand the food box inside.
"In a few days, it will be Yu'er's investiture banquet. Fortunately, His Majesty favors him and has made him the heir of the General's Mansion. He has also assigned many of the Emperor's men to personally oversee the banquet. At that time, the General's Mansion will surely be bustling with activity and extremely lively."
"I have come today to tell the general this good news."
"Grandmother and General will not be able to attend the banquet at the manor. I have specially brought some side dishes and liquor for Grandmother and General to eat, as a way to celebrate Yu'er."
Song Ziyu glared angrily and kicked over the food box.
"Stop with the fake concern!"
"Why is the general so angry?" Jiang Wan looked at him with a smile. "Now everyone outside says that Yu'er is young and promising, even more so than the general was back then."
"Although he was young, he commanded the Song family army with his own strength, and the army was loyal to him and no one disobeyed him."
"The Minister of War and His Majesty often praise him, saying that he has the talent of a general, has inherited his grandfather's heroic spirit, and is the most promising descendant of the Song family."
Jiang Wan spoke softly, but each word was like a knife cutting into Song Ziyu's heart.
"With such an outstanding son, the general can rest in peace when he goes to the underworld."
“In the future, I will make sure that Yu’er properly enshrines the memorial tablets of my grandmother and the general, and burns incense and pays respects during festivals.”
"You bitch!"
Song Ziyu was furious.
"Don't think I don't know, that brat Song Yu is an ingrate just like you! You want to take over the General's Mansion? Dream on!"
His veins bulged as he glared fiercely at Jiang Wan, and he said excitedly.
"You want to see me die? Dream on! I have..."
"Ziyu!"
Standing in the shadows, Yuan suddenly spoke, stopping Song Ziyu from speaking.
Song Ziyu suddenly realized that he had almost been tricked into revealing information by Jiang Wan in his moment of impulsiveness.
"She really is a treacherous woman!" he muttered under his breath.
Yuan stepped forward, looking at Jiang Wan warily: "A-Wan, why have you come here?"
“Grandmother is straightforward, so I won’t beat around the bush either.”
Jiang Wan dusted off the hem of her skirt and stood up.
“A few days ago, a jailer delivered a letter to the general’s mansion. It was addressed to Song Lin. I want to know what it says.”
Yuan's heart stirred slightly, and then she laughed.
"So that's what it was about."
