Jiang Wan frowned.
She had expected Song Lin to be angry about this, but she didn't expect him to be so extreme.
Unable to eat any more, she immediately stood up and said, "Let's go see Aru. We can talk on the way. Take my medicine kit with you."
Song Yu followed behind her.
On the way, Cai Die told him what she had found out.
"It started in the main courtyard. General Song heard about Gu's behavior at the silkworm-raising ceremony today. When he returned to the manor, he went straight to her room and scolded her for talking nonsense and disgracing the Song family. Gu was not convinced and the two argued fiercely. Song Lin was outside the door when he heard the news."
Biluo couldn't believe it: "So he dared to lay a hand on Aunt Ru? That's far too impulsive."
“It’s not impulsive, it’s vicious,” Song Yu said. “If Aunt Ru loses her child, he will at most be scolded, but the spot will still go to him in the end.”
"Moreover, the timing is just right. Taking action when General Song feels guilty towards him makes it easier to be forgiven."
Song Yu scoffed lightly.
"But this time he may have made a mistake. General Song's affection for this child is no less than his own."
Jiang Wan remained silent, inwardly agreeing with his statement, yet secretly amazed by his ability to see through people's hearts.
When the group arrived at Aunt Ru's courtyard, the house was already crowded with people.
Everyone who was supposed to come has arrived.
Song Ziyu was furious, Gu Yurong was crying and hugging Song Lin, and the old lady also had a sullen face, as if she was trying her best to suppress her anger.
If it weren't for the doctor being there, they probably would have torn Gu Yurong apart on the spot.
Jiang Wan observed the expressions on everyone's faces, her gaze finally settling on the doctor.
The doctor was engrossed in writing prescriptions at the table when Jiang Wan walked over and asked, "How is Aunt Ru's condition?"
"My aunt has suffered a severe blow to the abdomen, and the pregnancy is in great danger. She's in critical condition; I'm afraid... I'm afraid she's not going to make it!"
The doctor looked anxious.
"Someone, quickly brew this medicine and feed it to the concubine!"
Jiang Wan glanced at the names of the medicines on the list, her eyes flashed, and she winked at Cai Die, signaling her to prepare the medicine.
He whispered a few more instructions to Biluo, then said, "Take the doctor to the private room to wash his hands."
Chaos erupted in the hall. Aunt Ru's personal maid was summoned by Song Ziyu for questioning, while the matriarch of the Yuan family was helping to boil water and wash handkerchiefs. There was a shortage of manpower, so Biluo and Caidie, who had just entered the house, naturally took on the tasks.
After making the arrangements, Jiang Wan addressed the matriarch of the elder family.
"Grandmother, I'm going in to see Aunt Ru."
Jiang Wan entered the inner room and saw Aru lying on the bed. Her face was slightly pale, but her complexion was not bad.
She sat down on the edge of the bed and reached out to take her pulse.
Aru glanced at the outer hall and lowered her voice, saying, "Madam, I'm fine."
As she spoke, a sly smile played in her eyes, and she winked gently at Jiang Wan.
After taking her pulse, Jiang Wan confirmed her suspicions, withdrew her hand, and asked, "Did you bribe that doctor?"
Aru didn't hide it from her and nodded in agreement.
“Young Master Lin came here in a big way, making a scene that everyone in the courtyard knows about. He wants to harm my child, how can I just stand by and do nothing?”
"If I were not seriously injured and the fetus was not in danger, why would the general be angry?"
She guessed correctly; judging from Song Ziyu's furious voice outside, she knew how angry he was with Song Lin.
“But Madam, that prescription…” Aru said in a low voice.
Jiang Wan smiled slightly.
When she saw that the prescription was full of mild pregnancy-stabilizing medicines, she knew that Aru was fine.
"The medicine was prepared by Cai Die. Don't worry, no one will notice anything amiss."
“Biluo has taken the doctor away and asked him to prescribe a strong pregnancy-preserving medicine, just in case.”
Aru's expression softened, and she exchanged a glance with Jiang Wan before smiling.
The incident happened so suddenly that she could only call a doctor she knew, but there was no time to make all the necessary arrangements.
Jiang Wan had barely entered the room when she guessed her intention and quickly covered up the loopholes for her.
Aru felt comforted, yet couldn't help but sigh with emotion.
Fortunately, she chose to rely on Jiang Wan, and remained loyal to her from beginning to end.
Otherwise, if there were such a clever enemy, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to survive a single day in this deep mansion.
Under Aru and Jiang Wan's arrangement, Song Ziyu "almost" lost the child. He was furious with Song Lin and asked the family to punish this unfilial son himself.
He had damaged his health and had difficulty conceiving. Aunt Ru's child might be his last bloodline. In addition, after developing a drinking problem, his emotions became increasingly unstable.
Song Ziyu's eyes turned red with anger, and in his rage, the rod was broken.
The farce only ended when Song Lin coughed up blood and fainted as if he had stopped breathing, and Gu Yurong cried out and threw herself at him like a madwoman.
The doctor worked from late at night until dawn and finally announced that the baby was saved.
Song Ziyu then regained some of his senses and belatedly realized that he had gone too far, so he called a doctor to treat Song Lin.
Song Lin was indeed seriously injured.
Jiang Wan went to see it, and if she had been beaten a few more times, she might have been beaten to death.
The doctor administered herbal medicine for five consecutive days before he was finally brought back to consciousness. Gu Yurong stayed by his bedside every day, weeping uncontrollably.
Although he survived, the injuries were so severe that he would need at least several dozen days to recover. Not only did he lose his place at Chongwen Hall, but he also would definitely be unable to participate in the final martial arts examination.
The two things I was most proud of vanished overnight.
Gu Yurong and her son were deeply affected.
Song Lin's injuries had healed somewhat, but he remained bedridden and depressed.
Song Yu brought some things to visit him.
"Brother, rest assured, although you cannot participate in the martial arts test, with me here, I will do my best to bring glory to the General's Mansion."
