Chapter 46 Why aren't you here yet?

The autumn rain was particularly cold, falling from the sky and extinguishing the burning campfire in no time.

The snakes, who had been afraid of the firelight, now approached without restraint.

Shi Xu and Bi Luo could only draw their swords and instantly cut down several poisonous snakes.

But the two of them alone could not fight against the massive swarm of snakes.

Jiang Wan looked solemn.

She placed Pei Tang at the innermost part, picked up the scattered wine jars around them, and poured the wine in front of them.

Stimulated by the strong liquor, the snakes slowly retreated a little distance.

But the rain got heavier and heavier, and the aroma of the wine gradually faded.

It won't be long before it's delayed.

"Madam, be careful!"

An arrow whistled past, pinning the venomous snake that lunged at Jiang Wan to the ground.

Er Gou, who was not far away, put away his crossbow and rushed over with his toes touching the ground.

"I just got back from patrol, how did it turn out like this? Did you guys disturb a snake's nest?" Er Gou asked anxiously.

"His Highness the Crown Prince's men will be here soon. Try to delay them as much as possible," Jiang Wan said.

The group split up to guard different directions, fighting valiantly against the swarm of snakes.

Screams and wails could be heard all around.

After an unknown amount of time, Pei Xuan finally arrived.

He Xingyun also brought the snake-driving team from the Jingzhao Yin (prefect of the capital), and the soldiers quickly rescued everyone and distributed the medicine.

Because they arrived in a hurry, there wasn't much medicine, but thankfully Jiang Wan wasn't injured.

She quickly tidied herself up, and when her gaze swept over Shi Xu's slightly pale face, she suddenly froze.

"Are you injured?"

Upon hearing this, Er Gou grabbed Shi Xu's arm and saw specks of blood on it. He cried out urgently, "Brother, was it you who pushed me just now? You took the hit for me..."

"You all go back first!" He turned and went to find He Xingyun: "I'll go get the antidote!"

After returning to the camp, Jiang Wan tore open Shi Xu's clothes and checked him over.

"He has indeed been poisoned, but as long as he takes the medicine in time, he will be fine."

Shi Xu's face was deathly pale, and his Adam's apple bobbed as he said, "Thank you for your trouble, Pavilion Master."

Jiang Wan applied some anti-inflammatory herbs to his face.

After waiting for a while, Er Gou still hadn't returned.

Instead, a commotion broke out outside the camp, as if a dispute had occurred.

She walked over and heard Er Gou's angry voice: "Don't you know anything about first come, first served? I was here first, why should I give you this medicine?"

Jiang Wan walked over: "What's wrong?"

"Madam! There's only one dose of medicine left, and this maid is trying to take it!" Er Gou was so angry that his face turned red.

The maid's voice was shrill.

"The one who was injured was just a servant. If anything happens to our princess, even the worthless lives of ten servants wouldn't be enough to compensate for it!"

"You're talking nonsense!"

Er Gou almost jumped up and rushed forward to snatch the medicine from the maid's hand.

"I think you're just deliberately causing trouble! When I came here, there was no one around. As soon as I said I needed to get medicine for Madam, you rushed over and tried to snatch it. What are you up to!"

The two were arguing so loudly that even He Xingyun was alerted.

"Lord He!" The maid immediately knelt down. "Princess Anyang is six months pregnant. If anything were to happen to her, who could bear the responsibility?"

Er Gou roared, "What? Just because your princess's life is precious, does that mean everyone else deserves to die?"

"this…"

After hearing the whole story, He Xingyun also showed a troubled expression.

He asked his servant, "How long will it take to get someone to the hospital?"

The servant thought for a moment: "The mountain road is winding, and with the heavy rain, it will take at least more than an hour."

"The princess is delicate and frail, how could she possibly endure an hour?"

The maidservant said quickly.

"Lord He, why don't we give the princess her medicine first? Madam Jiang's servants are tough and resilient; they might be able to pull through!"

"The princess is carrying the blood of Donglai; we absolutely cannot allow it to be lost!"

He Xingyun sighed.

The maid is right. Song Tingyue is the Princess Consort of Donglai. Even the smallest thing about her could cause a diplomatic dispute.

He glanced at Jiang Wan and said in a low voice.

"Madam Jiang, how about this? I'll send your servant in the fastest carriage..."

Jiang Wan glanced at him calmly: "I have long heard of Lord He's integrity and justice, but I did not expect him to act in this way."

He Xingyun was so ashamed by what she said that he couldn't lift his head.

Jiang Wan glanced at the numerous guards standing outside the tent; these men were all under the command of He Xingyun.

She only had Biluo and Ergou by her side.

Outnumbered.

Time was of the essence, and there was no time to call for reinforcements.

She said, "Okay, I agree. Let's go and give the princess her medicine first."

After saying that, she reached out and picked up the pills, then walked into Song Tingyue's tent first.

Song Tingyue lay on the soft couch, a handkerchief covering her right leg, presumably where she had been poisoned.

Clearly, she had heard the argument outside.

His face was slightly pale, and he spoke weakly to Jiang Wan with a look of guilt.

"Ah Wan, I'm sorry."

"If...if your servant dies because of me...I will give him a grand funeral."

"He won't die."

Jiang Wan approached her, her voice as cold as frost.

"…What?"

Song Tingyue was taken aback by what she said. Just as she was about to ask another question, she suddenly felt a chill on her neck.

A cold blade was pressed against her neck; one more inch and it would pierce her skin.

He Xingyun, who followed closely behind, was greatly surprised.

"Madam Jiang! What are you doing? Don't be impulsive!"

Jiang Wan coldly said, "Send my servant here and give him the medicine, otherwise, I'll slit her throat right now!"

"This, this..."

He Xingyun was very anxious and shook his head.

"Why are you doing this? Kidnapping the princess is a serious crime, do you know that?"

"I did it, it won't implicate Lord He."

"Also, tell your guards to keep their distance."

Jiang Wan glanced at them.

"Unless you want to see the princess splattered with blood on the spot."

Song Tingyue was held hostage by her, her face as white as paper, and her whole body trembling.

Jiang Wan winked at Er Gou.

Er Gou snapped out of his fright and hurriedly ran outside.

None of the guards outside the tent dared to move.

He Xingyun had never seen such a scene before, and whispered to the servants, "Quickly, summon His Highness the Crown Prince!"

Soon, Er Gou returned, carrying the timeline with him.

"Apply the medicine."

Jiang Wan tossed out the pill in her hand, and Biluo applied the medicine to Shixu's arm.

He Xingyun stared at Shi Xu's face, his eyes wide.

And what's with this talk of a servant? What servant so young and handsome? You're kidding me!

This is clearly Jiang Wan's...

No wonder she was willing to go to such lengths for this man, even going so far as to kidnap a princess!

If anything truly happens to Song Tingyue, everyone present today will be held accountable.

He might even lose his life.

He Xingyun looked anxiously outside the tent.

Pei Xuan, why aren't you here yet!

Jiang Wan has gone mad! She's going to ruin him for this pretty boy!
