Chapter 10 Account
Ji Rong felt a chill run down her spine when she saw Huang Pinjie glaring at her with a fierce look in her eyes.
She had considered that she might be exposed, but she didn't expect it to happen so quickly; seeing the certain looks in Huang Pinjie and Ji Er's eyes, she gave up on making excuses.
"I'll talk, I'll talk!" Ji Rong plopped down on the ground, drooping her wings, and began to wail.
Ji Er kicked her in the buttocks and yelled angrily, "Behave yourself! I'm asking you a question, what are you howling about!"
Ji Rong's buttocks ached from being grabbed, and she shot into the air with a "whoosh," crying out, "Mommy, even if I have memories of my past life, I'm still your child! How can you be so cruel? This isn't what I wanted!"
Without a second thought, Ji Er swatted Ji Rong down with his wing and said fiercely, "Still trying to bewitch me? Give up! Confess now!"
Ji Rong immediately covered her buttocks with her wings, her mind in a state of panic and numbness.
She then poured out all the memories in her mind, like beans spilling out, without any concealment.
"My original name was Li Xiaorong. I was a planner. In order to write a proposal that satisfied the boss, I devoted myself to revising it. I died after two days and two nights without closing my eyes. When I opened my eyes again, I was here."
"Anything else?" Huang Pinjie asked.
"That's all," Ji Rong said honestly.
"You're not being honest!" Ji Er raised his foot and scratched Ji Rong's buttocks again.
Ji Rong couldn't escape at all. She hid behind her brother Ji Zhuang and cried, "It's really gone. Even if you beat me to death, this is how I got here. How was I supposed to know that Meng Po wouldn't even give me any soup before sending me here?"
"Who is Meng Po?" Huang Pinjie asked.
"The legendary one who gives people the Meng Po soup."
Why give someone the Meng Po soup?
"It is said that drinking Meng Po soup will make you forget your past life so that you can be reincarnated."
What is reincarnation?
"Reincarnation is when a person gets pregnant, the underworld sends a soul to them. Oh, and it's not just people, it's the same for all living things, like chickens, ducks, fish, and geese."
Huang Pinjie could understand what was being said, but she couldn't understand the meaning behind it at all.
Seeing that Huang Pinjie's expression was still not good, Ji Er flapped his wings, preparing to scratch this imposter a few more times.
Huang Pinjie stretched out a tail to block Ji Er and said, "Stop hitting her, she doesn't seem to be lying."
After that, the conversation turned into a Q&A session with Huang Pinjie.
You said that reincarnation can result in all sorts of... things.
"biology."
"Then what are you?"
"I am a human being."
What is a human being?
"Humans are humans. Legend has it that they were created by Nuwa, or that they evolved from monkeys. They are a type of advanced mammal that has no hair, can walk upright, and can think independently."
When did you die?
"23 years old."
What were you doing before you died?
"I'm writing a proposal for my boss."
What is planning?
"It's a plan. He wants to cut costs and make more money. Treasure, that's what I'll do for him."
"So you're a strategist?"
"Um... I guess so, but not really. I'm at most his long-term laborer, a beast of burden in society."
What is a farmhand?
“A creature that works like a slave for the landlord.” Ji Rong glanced at Huang Pinjie cautiously and said, “It’s somewhat similar to the job you did before, except that my job doesn’t require me to risk my life, there’s no danger to my life, and I can earn some money to support myself.”
"Hahaha," Huang Pinjie laughed without any regard for her image. She said, "If you didn't have to risk your life, why did you die at the age of twenty-three?"
Ji Rong......
After Huang Pinjie finally finished laughing, she continued, "You say you were created by the goddess Nuwa, what proof do you have?"
"What proof do you have?" Ji Rong was stunned by the question. How could this be proven? Countless generations had passed; who would still know how to prove it?
Suddenly she remembered that Ji Er had told her about the Xuanyuan clan and the Shenlong clan living at the foot of the mountain, and she excitedly replied, "Descendants of Yan and Huang, descendants of Yan and Huang, we all call ourselves descendants of Yan and Huang, descendants of the dragon."
Huang Pinjie looked Ji Rong up and down and said, "A dragon who died at the age of twenty-three? A descendant of Yan and Huang? Based on your description, how is he like a dragon, and how is he like the Xuanyuan clan?"
Ji Rong smiled obsequiously, "Many years have passed, and people always change; look, the Phoenix Clan has now declined into a thousand branches of the Phoenix genus."
After listening, Huang Pinjie began to think that it made some sense, so she asked Ji Rong to explain how they were sure that they were descendants of Yan and Huang.
Ji Rong had already left all her history knowledge to her history teacher the moment the college entrance exam ended, but faced with the cold gaze of the ancient spirit beast, she honestly racked her brains and started spouting nonsense.
"That's what our books say. Legend has it that Nuwa created humans by taking clay and molding a bunch of people in her own image. Later, the living environment became harsh, so Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs and died after eating the poisonous herb. Gonggong crashed into Buzhou Mountain. I don't remember what the Yellow Emperor Xuanyuan did."
Chi You's mount was the Iron-Eating Beast, which was actually a panda;
After Yao, Shun, and Yu abdicated in favor of each other, Yu's son established the Xia Dynasty.
Following this were the Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn, Warring States, Qin, Han, Three Kingdoms, Wei, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties, Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. Then came war, and finally, Chairman Mao led the revolution to success, establishing the People's Republic of China.
After finishing her explanation in one breath, Ji Rong gasped for breath and said, "I also know a little about what happened in each dynasty mentioned here. Would you like to hear it?"
How do you know all this?
"I learned it in school, and I had to memorize it."
Huang Pinjie said disdainfully, "Since you are knowledgeable and knowledgeable in history, how come you were so down on your luck that you had to work as a farmhand at the age of twenty-three and even died from exhaustion?"
…Ji Rong was heartbroken.
She exclaimed, "We have a nine-year compulsory education system. Everyone who grows up in our country should study."
Upon hearing this, Huang Pinjie's eyes widened instantly. After a long while, she asked again, "If everyone has to learn, how many jade tablets would there be for so many people? How can you possibly learn them all?"
"What is a jade tablet?" Ji Rong asked. "How could you not learn it? As long as you can read, you can learn it by giving each person a few books."
This time it was Huang Pinjie's turn to be heartbroken. How could that place be so rich and so...open! Every "person" has the right to know the origins and history of their ancestors.
Although their ancestral stories may sound far-fetched, the origins of several of their ancestors are actually quite plausible.
But Huang Pinjie still persisted, saying, "You can learn it, but can you write it?"
Ji Rong nodded frantically and raised her paw to scratch the ground.
Looking at the horizontal and vertical lines on the ground, Huang Pinjie asked, "What are these?"
"You are so beautiful."
Huang Pinjie couldn't help but sigh, "You're just a lowly commoner, why are you allowed to study such detailed historical materials?"
Upon hearing this, Ji Rong stuck out her wings and said, "Who is a lowly commoner? In the new China, everyone is equal. I am a successor of communism, and I have an ID card. Why can't I learn from them!"
Huang Pinjie was in a mess...
"Then what are you doing here?"
Hearing the question return to its starting point, Ji Rong's forgotten tears welled up again.
She cried and cried out, "Ancestors, I didn't want to come here. I woke up here and I was here. I even have wings, so I can jump off trees and not die."
Huang Pinjie glanced at Ji Er subtly. She figured he wasn't a big problem, so she decided to give him a hint, saying, "Do you know how you gave yourself away?"
"Huh?" Ji Rong exclaimed in disbelief, "I didn't know."
Huang Pinjie sighed, "Your transverse bone hasn't healed at all, do you know that?"
"Huh? I don't know."
Huang Pinjie squinted and continued explaining, "You're just an ordinary colorful chicken. Your cross bones haven't even softened a bit, so you shouldn't be able to speak."
Ji Rong exclaimed in surprise, "You actually have such rules? Are you trying to suffocate the bird?"
Ji Er pulled Ji Zhuang over and said, "Touch your brother's neck, did you touch it? This is the transverse bone."
"Your bloodline is inferior; you can't speak until your transverse bones have completely dissolved. Have you heard your brother say a word?"
Ji Rong patted Ji Zhuang's neck, then patted her own, in the exact same spot, with the exact same bones.
Ji Er then had Ji Rong rub his neck and said, "Now you know, my transverse bone has turned into something else, so I can talk. Your transverse bone hasn't turned into something else, so you shouldn't be able to talk."
Ji Rong was shocked and her mind was in a panic. She hurriedly said, "But I can already speak. Just because my transverse bone hasn't dissolved, they won't let me speak. That's so unreasonable."
Ji Er and Huang Pinjie exchanged a knowing glance. Well, this guy has low stress tolerance. He acts stupid and confesses when pressured. He's lost all his previous intelligence and doesn't understand at all.
So Huang Pinjie said, "That's enough for today. Ji Er, take her to wash up. Tomorrow at three-quarters of an hour, bring her and her brother to my place, and I'll teach them."
