Chapter 40 Island
Flying on the windy sea is usually difficult, but today, an exception has been made for Ji Rong.
Ji Rong followed the direction of the vortex of gale, exhaling clouds and mist. She swallowed some small vortexes, which turned into wisps of spiritual energy that spread around her. Ji Zhuang, carrying Gu Qingqing and their belongings, flew closely behind Ji Rong.
The strong winds from the outside swept away many of Ji Zhuang's feathers, which were covered in blood and quickly carried away by the wind.
Ji Rong turned the bird's head and said to her brother, "Brother, come, follow me to refine wind and transform spirit."
"The Great Dao is boundless, yet all things have boundaries. Returning to the origin, I nourish my body by absorbing the wind; returning to simplicity, I cleanse my soul by absorbing the wind..."
After flying intermittently at sea for seven or eight days, they finally found a satisfactory small island on the outskirts. It had mountains and water, low and sparse trees, strong winds, and was barren of spiritual energy. There were no demons or beasts, so it was a perfect place.
After landing on the island, Ji Rong stood on the cliff to brave the strong winds and told her brother to build a nest on it.
Gu Qingqing originally did not want to live on the high ground, but thinking of Ji Rong's abilities, she dug a cave on the rocks next to the cliff.
Gu Qingqing felt that Ji Rong's ability was very similar to the ancestral tree mentioned in her clan history when she was young. However, Ji Rong was not a tree, but a bird. Therefore, Gu Qingqing thought that she must have received the inheritance after Feng Lie's death and mutated to have similar abilities.
Looking at the simple nautical chart, Gu Qingqing named the small island "Reef Island".
Ji Rong asked curiously, "Sister Qing, all the other islands are called Lingya Island, Linggui Island, Linghua Island, Black Snake Island, Haitian Cave, and Luoxing Blessed Land. Why is our little island called Reef Island?"
Gu Qingqing gave her a blank look: "What else is on this island besides reefs? If it's covered with spirit trees, then we can call it Spirit Tree Island."
Ji Rong laughed and said, "Okay." Then she called out to Ji Zhuang, "Brother, I want Spirit Tree Island."
Since arriving on the island, Ji Rong has hardly moved. Day after day, she lives on the cliff, breathing in the wind and drinking the dew. Apart from occasionally eating some spiritual herbs and drinking some spiritual water, she doesn't want anything else.
Gu Qingqing and Ji Zhuang were not worried, because even with these conditions, Ji Rong was getting fatter and fatter.
Gu Qingqing and Ji Zhuang left all the spirit herbs sealed in the jade box to Ji Rong, while they went out to happily fish and eat.
Ji Zhuang's fishing skills are now excellent. He used to fish on the South River, and now that his cultivation has improved, this is no problem for him.
Every time he went fishing, he would pick the biggest one and send it to his sister on the cliff. Although Ji Rong didn't eat it, Ji Zhuang would always send it to her.
Beneath the rocky island lies a tiny, hair-like spiritual vein, long since disconnected from the main vein, which is withering away day by day.
Ji Rong stood on the cliff, roots reaching down beneath her feet. She discovered a spiritual vein and planted the roots there. The vein offered no resistance and allowed her to do as she pleased.
Ji Rong found a golden fragment in this hair-like spiritual vein. Her roots couldn't tell whose fragment it was, but her spiritual platform trembled slightly, and the fragment entered her body like a flame.
For twenty years, Ji Rong absorbed the raging winds of the sea day after day, sending the excess spiritual energy she gained into this tiny spiritual vein, as thin as a hair.
Gradually, spiritual energy began to flow again in this tiny spiritual vein. It flowed to the broken section on its own, attracting another spiritual energy vein as thin as a hair.
Within this newly arrived vein lies a fragment retaining a slight divine quality. Sensing the vital energy of the healthy branch vein, the fragment frantically manipulates the vein it resides in, crashing towards the broken end.
But once the spiritual energy channel is broken, it's broken. No matter how hard it tries, it can't be reconnected.
Sensing this situation, Ji Rong had a thought and extended her tiny roots to touch the two veins; thus, the two veins gradually merged together.
Ji Rong was exhausted after doing all this, and she entered into a state of complete absorption in her cultivation.
After finishing her meditation, she discovered that the two meridians had been connected. The divine fragment looked very much like the mark that Wu Buyu had left on the Spirit Platform Tree. At this moment, the fragment was frolicking and wandering in the tiny spiritual meridian.
Wu Buyu's departure allowed Ji Rong to successfully unlock the "Phoenix True Understanding." She no longer needed to memorize; with just a glance, the knowledge would appear in her mind.
She also had a vague feeling that the two saplings on the altar were the particles she had swallowed back then.
Ji Rong has begun to transform into a tree, and to break free from this immobile state, she needs to cultivate and become stronger.
She had a feeling in her dream that when she reached the Profound Spirit Realm and transformed into a Celestial Being, a Dharma Bird, and a Dharma Image of Heaven and Earth, she could try to leave the Dharma Bird body behind and change into the Celestial Being body to travel outside.
At that time, she may still not be able to go very far, but as her cultivation level increases, the range of her activities should be able to extend further and further.
But for Ji Rong at present, this is a distant dream; she simply cannot obtain such a large number of resources right now.
Although she ate wind and dew day and night, the light orb that Wu Buyu left in the root system of her spirit platform continued to slowly decrease. She was unsure whether she would gain knowledge or continued hunger when the light orb was completely exhausted.
During this period, Ji Rong was immersed in instinctive cultivation. She vaguely felt that connecting the tiny underground meridians was a good thing for her. So even though Ji Rong was very tired, she carefully combed them with her roots.
There were countless such veins underground, yet they were all severed. Ji Rong couldn't fathom what kind of immense power had broken them so completely. Her abilities were limited, and the repair process was slow.
However, her brothers Ji Zhuang and Gu Qingqing cultivated very smoothly under her protection, and Ji Rong felt that such days seemed quite nice.
Regarding Ji Rong's condition, Gu Qingqing believed that since the Immortal Spring could alleviate Ji Rong's past symptoms, if it were supplemented with a large number of rare and precious immortal materials, it would surely improve Ji Rong's cultivation level.
However, the source of these celestial materials is monopolized by the Great God of Zhongzhou.
"Damn it!" Gu Qingqing cursed in her heart more than once.
The gods were inherently powerful, and when they needed labor, they created all races.
When they no longer need them, they hoard the resources and abandon all races.
There were also constant conflicts among the divine races. The once powerful phoenix and dragon races had withered away, and the fox clans in various places had long since submitted, thus avoiding a fatal blow.
But everyone knows that this is not enough; the gods have endless lives, while heaven and earth are finite.
"The Fire Fox Clan will be abandoned sooner or later," Gu Qingqing thought coldly.
During her time living on the island, Gu Qingqing would have Ji Zhuang carry her back and forth to the Desolate Sea City every now and then, firstly to replenish her spiritual food, and secondly to gather information.
Gu Qingqing heard that the Temple of War Gods was going to send generals to fight against the remnants of the Witch Tribe again, and the number of soldiers in the Desolate Sea City had indeed increased significantly.
This time, the Temple of War sent Jiao Pingbo, the Sea-Treading Demon Emperor of the Flood Dragon category.
Nowadays, the better-off cultivators of the myriad races are like Jiao Pingbo. They obey orders and go wherever they are needed. If they do well, they can get spiritual pills and immortal materials; if they do poorly, they are punished by having their flesh dug out and their heads cut off.
No one can be invincible. Jiao Pingbo was originally a different species of dragon. She was born strong and originally had three heads; however, in her long career of conquest, she was defeated twice and then gave up the two dragon brains on her neck.
If she were to fail again, she would most likely be crippled or killed. Therefore, before going to war, Jiao Pingbo divided her family property among her relatives and made arrangements for her funeral.
Then, she also had the soldiers who came with her make their final arrangements, and led a group of soldiers who were ready to die for their cause to the desolate sea city.
After arriving in the Desolate Sea, Jiao Pingbo changed her usual style. Instead of ordering her subordinates to launch a rapid attack on the Lich Clan, she had them set up camp outside the Desolate Sea City.
Every day, she sent soldiers to patrol the various sea lanes and shout: "Cultivators of all kinds on the island, war is about to break out here. The battlefield is merciless. Take your belongings and leave immediately."
"A great war is about to break out. Swords have no eyes, so innocent lives must retreat immediately." This was shouted for nearly half a year.
