Chapter 50 A Gap Like an Insurmountable Chasm
Dong Hailan composed herself and forced herself to remain calm.
"haven't seen you for a long time."
Quan Jing took a big step forward and pushed the person into the house.
The room is full of equipment.
Even though Dong Hailan knew it wasn't turned on, she was still nervous and scared.
"what are you up to?"
Quan Jing found it amusing, "You're making it sound like I was the heartless and wicked person back then."
The old story is being brought up again.
Dong Hailan said, "You didn't like me that much back then, and more than ten years have passed. What do you mean by coming to find me now? Are you getting revenge for me dumping you back then?"
"What if I say yes? Do you want me to get back at you?"
Dong Hailan fell silent.
Quan Jing stepped forward and whispered in her ear, "I remember everything you said to me before. You lied to me about kissing you, lied to me about sleeping with you, lied to me about you being good to me for the rest of your life... and then you told me the truth: you just hadn't broken out of character."
The warm breath brushed against her ear, making Dong Hailan's hair stand on end.
Having spent over a decade in the entertainment industry, life had worn down her edges, and she lacked the courage to confront Quan Jing.
He backed down, asking, "What do you want?"
Quan Jing straightened up and glanced at her pale face.
"Take off your clothes."
Dong Hailan froze, her face turning even paler.
She dared not look at the person in front of her, yet she could feel that after a long silence that was almost driving her to the brink of collapse, the person in front of her was getting closer and closer.
An overwhelming sense of oppression enveloped her, like a python coiling around her from the soles of her feet.
Quan Jing looked like she was about to kiss her.
Dong Hailan's face turned pale, and she turned her head away in unbearable pain. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that the person in front of her had stopped moving, and she heard a mocking laugh.
Did you think I was going to kiss you?
Quan Jing remained in the same position without moving.
The close proximity made her voice sound ambiguous and unspeakable, yet her words sent chills down one's spine.
"Ah Lan, we will meet again."
After Quan Jing left, Dong Hailan sat on the ground for a long time.
The production team came to check on her once, and Dong Hailan looked so unwell that they postponed her broadcast.
The panic, the heartache, and the despair gradually subsided in the calm of being alone.
Adults don't have much time to be depressed.
Dong Hailan composed herself and signaled to the staff that they could start the broadcast.
Today's task for the program is to catch fish.
The cage was put down last night, and we need to bring it back in today before it snows, then marinate it and dry it in the sun.
Dong Hailan went to the riverbank and saw Qian Wei on the shore.
"Sister Lan, are you feeling better?"
"It's alright, why didn't you go down?"
Qian Wei said, "Qingshan said the water is too cold, so the girls shouldn't go in."
Dong Hailan smiled, as if nothing had happened.
"The child is quite thoughtful."
"Yeah, if I were about his age, I'd want to pursue him too."
Just then, Zhou Chong and his men came up carrying a cage.
Four cages were set in total, filling two buckets to the brim. Everyone divided the fish and took them home, gutted and cleaned them, salted them, and hung them under the eaves.
Snowflakes started falling outside.
After the meal, Shan Qingshan lit a charcoal brazier.
The people inside the house were warming themselves around a charcoal brazier.
You Liang took out his phone.
"Brother, your housekeeper couldn't find you, so he came to me. He said that so many people have sent you gifts this year, and some of them are quite valuable. He's prepared a list of return gifts for you to review."
As he spoke, You Liang handed his phone to Zhou Chong.
Qian Wei asked, "In a family like yours, is there someone specifically responsible for these things?"
You Liang nodded.
Seeing this, Shan Qingshan asked, "Don't you guys look at it yourselves?"
"With so many holidays throughout the year, plus the birthdays of my uncles and aunts, and Chong Ge and Zhou Shuo, how can I possibly keep track of everything? My assistant has a list of people. Only those on the list are people we regularly visit. If they're not on the list, we accept their gifts, register them, and then pick a suitable one for the assistant to mail back as a gift."
You Liang couldn't help but speak out about this matter.
"You guys have no idea what my brother's birthday was like this year. It was his coming-of-age ceremony, and the event was incredibly grand. By eight in the morning, people couldn't even get into his house because of the mountains of gifts and the presence of so many powerful and influential people. There was a car with a starry sky roof that I'd wanted for ages, but I couldn't get my hands on it no matter what I tried, and someone just gave it to him! There was even a daring young woman who asked him if he wanted a 'virginity-breaking gift'..."
Zhou Chong interrupted, frowning, "That's enough, stop talking nonsense."
You Liang muttered under his breath, "I wasn't making this up, that girl is pretty and has big breasts..."
Zhou Chong looked at him instead of his phone.
You Liang quickly said, "But could my brother be that kind of person? He firmly refused on the spot! Not kicking them out was to give them their last bit of dignity!"
Qian Wei applauded You Liang's quick reaction.
“Children like you should have had many friends growing up.”
Zhou Chongdao said, "As long as you reach a certain level, you won't have any bad people around you."
This sentence almost gave Qian Wei a heart attack.
You Liang boasted, "Whether it's me, my brother, or even Zhou Shuo, as long as we say we're going out to play, we don't need to call anyone; a whole battalion of people will follow us. Just this show alone has so many people wanting to come with my brother."
You Liang patted Zhou Shuo on the back.
"From childhood to adulthood, apart from coming here, everything he's seen has either been his own home or mine. Of course, maybe this place will soon be considered his home too. Hehe... Bro, what do you think of what I said?"
Zhou Chong smiled, glanced at You Liang, and said deliberately.
"I haven't agreed yet, don't talk nonsense."
Yes, yes, yes.
Qian Wei clutched her chest and said she had a bit of angina.
"The difference between people is greater than the difference between people and dogs."
After watching the live stream, Zhou Chong avoided the live stream room and called his housekeeper back.
Dan Qingshan watched his retreating figure for a moment, then looked back at the fire in the charcoal brazier.
Zhou Chong walked back, touched his knee, and then touched his hand.
Why is it still so cold?
Dan Qingshan lowered his eyes and saw a red mark on Zhou Chong's hand. Almost reflexively, he grabbed Zhou Chong's hand in return.
When did you get chilblains?
The pampered young master had never seen this thing before, and scratched it with curiosity.
"Is this frostbite? It's itchy, I thought it was insect bites."
With a stern face, Shan Qingshan brought over a basin of boiling water and made them all put their hands in to soak, scalding their hands until they turned bright red.
Shan Qingshan said, "Remember to take some medicine when you remove the stitches."
"Hmm. Have you ever grown one?"
I had them when I was very young, but I got used to them and they stopped growing.
Zhou Chong: "That's good."
It's not good at all.
That evening, Shan Qingshan returned to his grandmother's room and lay down in bed, only to realize how cold the winter was here, causing Zhou Chong's hands to develop chilblains.
He's so good.
They shouldn't have to suffer like this.
