Chapter 7 Did you really think we were friends before?

The dim light bulbs swayed back and forth in the rudimentary factory filled with black gas.

Grayish-black particles floated in the air, causing the light bulbs to flicker.

The strong smell was of diesel engine oil.

The machine's noise was simply ear-piercing.

And it was in this airtight place that a number of female workers in their forties and fifties, dressed in factory uniforms, gathered.

"Auntie, I'm looking for Zhou Ping."

The female worker, her head wrapped in a headscarf and wearing several layers of masks, completely covered up, looked up, her eyes shining brightly.

"Good lad, you don't even recognize your own mother anymore."

Ye Zhou gave a hurried laugh, "Mom."

"You little rascal, what brings you to the factory to find me?"

"I'll stay at get off work until seven. If I install a few more screws, I can buy you a sesame seed cake!"

Ye Zhou smiled, intending to say that he didn't eat sesame seed cakes.

The words were left unsaid.

He put his phone in his school uniform pocket.

"Mom, let me help you."

In his previous life, Ye Zhou had never been to Zhou Ping's factory. He knew the location, but never thought of visiting it.

He hadn't expected the environment here to be so bad.

In her past life, Zhou Ping's health deteriorated, and she would stay up late into the night.

He coughed incessantly, as if he was coughing up his lungs.

Ye Zhou reached out his hand, but before he could touch the part, it was slapped away by another hand.

"Go outside and wait there. Don't get your school uniform dirty."

"It's okay, I'll take off my school uniform before I start working."

"Get out, get out! This room is stuffy; breathing too much air is bad for your health."

Ye Zhou was forcefully pushed out.

"You know it's bad for your health?"

Zhou Ping has always been like this, as if she were indestructible, while Ye Zhou seems like she would fall apart with the slightest breeze.

Zhou Ping took off her dirty factory uniform and full protective gear—headscarf, mask, and gloves—one by one, and stuffed them all into a crumpled plastic bag.

"It's all because of you, kid, that I missed out on earning an extra ten dollars today."

Zhou Ping muttered something under her breath, but she didn't seem angry.

Ye Zhou took a bouquet of flowers from the tram basket and, as if by magic, held it up to Zhou Ping.

"Mom, here's some money for you."

Zhou Ping stared at the yellow and white flowers for a long time.

"Your mother isn't dead yet!"

"Tsk, these are carnations. Today is Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day, Mom."

In his previous life, Ye Zhou never celebrated Zhou Ping's birthday, and even Mother's Day was ignored.

Every year on Ye Zhou's birthday, Zhou Ping would cook a large feast.

Even though he failed the college entrance exam, his family never complained.

Zhou Ping took the flowers, held them in her arms, and smiled.

"The last time I received flowers was when your dad proposed to me. How rare, hahaha."

On the way, Zhou Ping sat in the back seat, enjoying the cool breeze, while a row of poplar trees were left behind.

The tram traveled steadily on the road.

"Mom, your son will be very successful in the future."

"Of course! Don't you even know who gave birth to them!"

*

The girl's soft hair was scattered messily on the ten-meter-long bed.

She tossed and turned dozens of times, but couldn't fall asleep.

Jiang Jiayan was waiting for her phone screen to light up.

Ye Zhou has already bullied me like this today.

And these things have never happened before.

He always treats me well without expecting anything in return.

But today, his estrangement is really too strange.

It's like he's become a completely different person.

Jiang Jiayan knew what kind of person she was; she was indeed somewhat willful.

But she's a princess, isn't it normal for her to have some minor imperfections?

It was completely dark when she reluctantly opened her WeChat account.

Aside from payment records, there are no new updates.

Swipe up on the screen to see a vast amount of content.

Good morning and good night.

"Want to try that new restaurant that just opened near the school?"

"You're so cute, even when you're angry you're cute."

"I saw you almost trip over a pebble, so I picked it up and threw it into the lake."

Below is a video.

With a flick of his hand, the pebble flew out of his grasp, bounced twenty times on the lake's surface, and sank to the bottom.

"The wildflowers I stumbled upon by the roadside were beautiful, but they can't compare to you by a thousand times. [Image.jpg]"

Jiang Jiayan bit her lip tightly, trying her best to stop her saliva from flowing out.

So much time has passed, and she still hasn't received a goodnight message from Ye Zhou.

She only found out today that Ye Zhou and she were not on the same wavelength at all.

...

Exiting the chat interface, the number of messages instantly increased to 99+.

Her profile picture was flashing; many people whose names she didn't even know were sending her messages.

Ask if I'm free and when we can have a meal together.

But Ye Zhou's interface was unusually quiet.

He used to be the most proactive in sending messages, while Jiang Jiayan only needed to reply with "um" or "ah," or often didn't send anything at all.

She finally couldn't hold back anymore, and her aggrieved lips turned down.

Pick up your phone and start typing.

"Is this funny? You're so boring!"

The message has been sent.

A very eye-catching little red dot.

You have been blocked by the other party and cannot send messages!

This was Ye Zhou's fault to begin with, and he even blocked her!

This is absolutely outrageous!

Jiang Jiayan couldn't sleep all night, remembering what Ye Zhou had said during the day.

What do you mean by "I don't like it anymore"?

"How could I suddenly stop liking it?"

"You used to praise her for being cute, but now everything she does is considered unreasonable?"
