Wang's eyes gleamed with cunning, and her voice trembled slightly, as if she had grasped at a straw to save her life.
Ning Yin struggled a few times, but the ropes on her hands were impossible to budge, and she did not respond to Wang's question.
Seeing that Ning Yin remained silent, Wang Shi shakily climbed off the bed.
She was now begging Ning Yin to save her, so she adopted a very humble attitude and wore a kind smile.
"Ah Yin, it's your mother! Don't you recognize me? How have you been these days? Why have you lost so much weight? Has that scoundrel been abusing you?"
"Come here, let your mother take a look. Oh, you've really suffered. Look how pointed your chin is."
As she spoke, Wang reached out to touch Ningyin, but Ningyin lowered her eyes and turned her head away, not wanting to pay any attention to Wang.
Back then, Wang Shi wouldn't even deign to offer him such a hypocritical act of charity.
Once, because she stayed up all night taking care of the sick and weak Wang, she slept on the floor and developed a high fever the next day that wouldn't go down.
She was delirious from the fever and had no energy left to treat herself.
What's most hateful is that Wang thought she was deliberately being lazy and pretentious, and stopped Suxin from going out to fetch a doctor. Later, she endured it for a whole day and night and almost got burned out.
"Ayin, I misunderstood you before. It was all Yang Shuhuan's doing. She was sowing discord between me and her. But now, I know everything. I agree to let you and Yun'er be together again. From now on, you will be in charge of this family. Is that okay?"
Wang stared longingly at Ningyin, her eyes revealing only desire and anticipation.
After all, if it weren't for her son saving her, she wouldn't be alive today. Besides, being a royal consort isn't easy, and Ning Yin doesn't even have a child yet, so she's probably not very favored.
She's a divorced woman from a merchant family; she might have been neglected by that scoundrel long ago.
Thinking it over, Madam Wang smiled and said again, "Ayin, don't blame Yun'er for tying you up. It's really for your safety. When Yun'er comes back, I'll have him untie you."
Seeing that Ning Yin didn't speak, she thought that Ning Yin had been persuaded by her, and hurriedly went to the table to get the broken teapot to give Ning Yin water.
But as soon as she got up, she stumbled and fell to the ground with a thud. Wang felt as if her old bones were about to fall apart.
Ning Yin glanced expressionlessly at Wang Shi, who was writhing and struggling on the ground, and said coldly, "Don't bother, I'm not thirsty. But don't fall and die, and then blame me!"
An incredulous expression suddenly appeared on Wang's previously pained face. Was she getting old and her eyesight failing? These really were Ning Yin's words.
Why did she transform from a gentle and virtuous matriarch of a wealthy family into a shrew who utters abusive words in just one year?
“Ayin, what are you saying? I’m just worried you’ll get thirsty. Look how hot it is.”
In order to survive, Wang gritted her teeth and continued to pretend.
"Hehe, there's no need for you to go to such trouble, Madam. If your son hadn't forcibly abducted me, I wouldn't be in such a sorry state. If you have any conscience at all, just let me go!"
Ning Yin didn't know where Shen Yun had gone, but she knew he would be back soon, and then she wouldn't have a chance to escape.
He thought that by provoking Wang with such words, Wang would not be able to bear it and would release him, but to his surprise, she did not seem angry at all.
With a warm smile still on her face, she climbed to the table with all her might and took the kettle.
"I know I've been harsh on you before, but you need to think about your health too. Drink some water, look how chapped your lips are!"
"Get away from me! Don't come near me! I don't care about your charity. Let me go, or when His Highness comes looking for you, none of you will survive. You don't want your head chopped off, do you?"
Ning Yin glared coldly at Wang Shi, who was startled and dropped the kettle.
In those days, water was already scarce, and now they had lost their only kettle. Since their family were wanted criminals, it was inconvenient for them to go out to fetch water.
Wang was furious; her chest heaved uncontrollably, and her old face turned bright red.
Seeing the two arguing, Shen Jia, who was standing nearby, happily picked up the broken pieces of porcelain from the ground and played with them before stuffing them into her mouth.
"Put it down!" Ning Yin shouted hurriedly upon seeing this.
But the next second, Shen Jia's lip was cut by a shard of porcelain, and blood gushed out, making her mouth look like a gaping maw. Wang turned her head and saw this terrifying scene.
"You silly girl, why did you have to eat broken porcelain shards? You're going to drive your mother crazy!"
While cursing, Wang hurriedly went to find something to bandage her wound.
Taking advantage of the brief moment, Ning Yin quickly moved her body, picked up a shard of porcelain from the ground, and hid it.
Seeing that Wang's attention was not on her, she forcefully cut the ropes binding her.
Fortunately, the rope was not of good quality, and Ningyin only made a few cuts before it broke.
Her face lit up with joy, and she hurriedly bent down to untie the ropes binding her feet. But then, the wooden door of the dilapidated hut creaked open.
Pushed aside from the outside, Shen Yun came in carrying large and small bags. Ning Yin quickly withdrew her hands and put them behind her back.
The first thing the man did upon entering the room was to check on Ning Yin. Seeing that Ning Yin was still there, he then looked at Shen Jia, who was crying her heart out. He frowned deeply and sighed with a sense of helplessness and bewilderment.
When Wang saw her son return, she glared at him irritably.
"Yun'er, look, the only water bottle has been overturned. I was just worried that Ayin was thirsty, so I gave him some water to drink. Who knew?"
