"It can't be that the old man really killed his own son, right?" Crown Prince Chu Guandong frowned.
"It's hard to say." Chu Guannan laughed sarcastically. The old man suddenly pushed his son out yesterday. He might have some bad intentions.
He tried to test Chu Zhiyou yesterday. Chu Zhiyou looked heroic and willing to fight for his own life, but he was scared in the end. He didn't want to die, so how could he seek death?
"That old man has always doted on Chu Zhiyou. He retreated yesterday to advance, primarily to keep Chu Zhiyou at home and save his life. He also wanted a pardon from the emperor, so he wouldn't kill his own son, would he?" the prince analyzed. "But the Zongzhengcheng Mansion isn't easy to enter. If Chu Zhiyou didn't commit suicide, then the person who killed him is most likely inside the mansion."
After saying this, the prince decided to go and see for himself.
After finishing breakfast with Chu Guannan and preparing to go out, the attendant beside him trotted in, bowed and said hurriedly:
"Your Highness, Liu Ruyan committed suicide in the Summer Palace. The Liu family is clamoring to see the imperial concubine, and some have even gone to the Zhou family to demand an explanation."
"Liu Ruyan also committed suicide?" The prince wondered if he had heard it wrong.
The attendant then told what he had heard.
"Qingwu was injured? Is it serious?" the prince asked nervously.
"His hand was pierced by a dagger. He should be on his way back." said the servant.
"Royal brother, why don't you go see Miss Shen first?" Chu Guannan suppressed the worry in his heart and said tactfully.
"Let's go see Chu Zhiyou first." The prince hesitated for a moment and then made a decision immediately.
Chu Guannan agreed and followed the prince out of the palace.
A white banner has been hung in the residence of the Minister of the Imperial Clan, and the people in the residence have changed into white clothes. They are busy in a solemn but orderly manner. Some members of the royal family have already come to show their concern.
Chu Guannan looked at Zong Zhengcheng, who was sitting next to the coffin with completely white hair. He looked as if all his energy and spirit had been drained away.
Several royal elders kept comforting him, but he seemed not to hear them.
"Three coroners came to examine the body, and their conclusions were similar. The man committed suicide and drowned without struggling." Someone saw the prince come in, stepped forward to pay his respects, and told the reason why the Minister of the Imperial Clan became like this.
"He accepted it and decided to bury him." The man shook his head and sighed.
"Perhaps what Zong Zhengcheng said yesterday was too harsh, and Zhiyou took it seriously." The prince also sighed sadly and stepped forward to greet Zong Zhengcheng, "I am so sorry for your loss."
Chu Guannan stood behind the prince and looked quietly at the old man with drooping eyes. At such an old age, would he rather let his most beloved son die than give up the position of Zong Zheng Cheng?
Or maybe Chu Zhiyou is in the same situation as me?
When such a thought came to his mind, Chu Guannan felt a chill in his heart. He glanced at Zong Zhengcheng who was sitting there like a sculpture.
All his favor towards Chu Zhiyou is just an illusion, right?
After a little thought, Chu Guannan walked to the coffin and took a look at Chu Zhiyou lying inside. The person had been cleaned up.
He raised his hand and the servant handed him a stick of incense.
After burning incense seriously, he pulled off the jade pendant from his waist, walked to the coffin, and raised his hand to take Chu Zhiyou's hand.
Just as he reached out, before he could touch it, the manager hurried forward and raised his hand to stop him.
"Prince Yan, the young master has passed away. He was delayed for a long time by the coroner. Please don't disturb him anymore and let him rest in peace." The steward requested sadly.
Chu Guannan didn't withdraw his hand. Sadness appeared on his face, and he spoke in a heavy tone, "When Zhiyou was alive, he said many times that he liked the jade pendant on my body, but I never gave it to him. Now that he is gone, I feel so much regret. I want to make up for the past regrets and hand the jade pendant to him personally, thus fulfilling the fate of our acquaintance."
Chu Guannan raised the jade pendant in his hand to show it to the manager.
It is top-grade mutton-fat jade.
"Prince Yan, yesterday you kicked my young master into the water, causing him to faint and get injured. I dare to guess that perhaps he doesn't want to accept your jade pendant." The butler lowered his head, but still refused to let Chu Guannan touch Chu Zhiyou.
Chu Guannan narrowed his eyes slightly, and the majestic aura of a royal prince quickly dissipated. "The brotherhood between this prince and Zhiyou is not something you, a servant, can interfere with."
"Since you are an elder in the mansion, I will give you some face. Do you really think you are the master?" Chu Guannan's voice became cold and gloomy, and the aura of being a bully in Kyoto City for so many years came over him.
The old steward felt as if a mountain was falling down on his head, pressing down on him, and his legs and feet couldn't help but feel weak.
However, the hand that had been placed on the coffin to stop him still did not move away. His voice was trembling, but he still refused to give in. "Your Highness, the dead are the greatest."
"Do you want me to attack you in front of Zhiyou's corpse?" Chu Guannan's voice became colder and his face looked gloomy.
"Third Brother." The prince came over, took Chu Guannan's hand, called him softly, and looked at the steward with a gentle expression, "If the King of Yan had not punished your son yesterday, if he had not died today, I would have made him suffer a lot."
The old steward did not expect that the usually gentle prince would say such harsh words, and he became even more panicked.
He naturally knew what his young master had done, and it was completely an act of seeking death.
"Let Prince Yan give You'er to him." Zong Zhengcheng, who had been as silent as death, finally spoke. He walked over tremblingly with the support of his fellow tribesmen, his voice hoarse and sick.
He bowed solemnly to Chu Guannan and said, "This old minister thanks the King of Yan on behalf of his rebellious son."
Then he bowed even more deeply to the Crown Prince and said, "This old minister apologizes to the Crown Prince on behalf of my rebellious son and is willing to take the blame for him."
