Chapter 73 You idiot, even if you sweep me with a broom, you can't get rid of me...
As the night deepened and the dew grew heavy, Lu Xiaofeng stood outside the small building, gazing intently at the wooden window, as if trying to melt through the layers of paper so that his gaze could break through and enter.
Under the moonlight, hundreds of flowers swayed in the courtyard. Lu Xiaofeng took a deep breath, and the rich fragrance of flowers filled his nostrils. He suddenly felt very happy.
When he's happy, he wants the whole world to know, but unfortunately, it's not the right time to make a big fuss.
His hands clenched into fists unconsciously. Despite his many wounds, he felt an endless surge of energy coursing through his body, an energy that desperately needed to be released.
He glanced at the small window one last time, let out a light breath, and then suddenly leaped into the air down the mountain.
The wind tossed his dark hair, streaked with blood, and his unrestrained laughter was hidden in the night.
The night is still long...
Yan Jin didn't sleep well during that long night.
In her hazy dreams, she would pierce through layers of black mist and see Lu Xiaofeng's eyes, which held coldness and sorrow.
Perhaps it was truly strange that she had never seen Lu Xiaofeng with such an expression before. Her hand, which had been covering her chest, slid down to her abdomen, and she stared blankly at the rafters for a moment.
This little building seems a bit too quiet; it doesn't have the same warmth and liveliness as the noisy sounds that echoed in my dream.
Her pupils shifted slightly as she gripped her wrist, rubbing it inch by inch.
It used to be the same day after day, so why does it feel so bland and boring now?
Is it because they haven't made new incense in a long time?
She stood up, supporting her back, her eyes lowered, and casually pushed open the wooden window to look into the courtyard.
Along with the light, a touch of red fell into her eyes.
She paused, "This is... a red cotton tree."
The sky was as clear as newly opened Xuan paper, and a brightly blooming red kapok tree was shrouding the courtyard gate of the small building.
A red cotton flower twirled from a branch and fell into the freshly turned mud. A gust of wind chased it, and it fluttered and tried to entangle the hem of my clothes.
The clothes looked as if they had been washed in mud, covered in mud and bloodstains, even worse than when they first met.
Back then, Yan Jin saw him looking like a mud monkey and covered her mouth, laughing heartily. Now, however, she couldn't laugh at all. Instead, her fingertips gripped the windowsill tightly, and her throat felt like it was filled with soft thorns, making it difficult to swallow.
The scenery was beautiful at that moment, and another red cotton flower gently brushed against the tip of his nose.
It itches. He wrinkled his nose and tilted his head, which was leaning against the tree trunk, to the other side.
The bright sunlight shone clearly on his mud-spotted face, where the small cuts were still exposed, and the dripping sweat mixed with blood flowed down his brow bone and into the dark red scabs.
Unsure whether the sunlight or his gaze was more scorching, he opened his eyes and abruptly looked up. Through the small window, he met a pair of fox-like eyes, glistening with moisture.
Lu Xiaofeng's eyes suddenly lit up, as if all the stars from last night were reflected in them.
He laughed, his dimples sinking deep into his cheeks. He hurriedly got up, waved the bouquet he had tied in his hand at Yan Jin, and said with a bright smile, "Jin Jin!"
Yan Jin felt a sudden tightness in her chest, and after a moment of speechlessness, she stammered, "You..."
She didn't speak, so Lu Xiaofeng stayed outside the courtyard, watching her intently.
She bit her lip and asked, "What...are you doing?"
She had so many questions to ask, but her thoughts were too jumbled, and her chest felt like it was choked with pain.
So, they could only get soaked by this unexpected downpour.
Lu Xiaofeng took a deep breath, clenched the flower in his hand, and called out, "Yanjin, you said you liked kapok flowers, but you liked mine even more!"
The kapok flower and I both came, so...
"Even if you sweep me with a broom, you can't get rid of me!" His voice grew louder and more arrogant.
Yan Jin's pupils trembled, and she stared at him for a long time in the shimmering water before saying in a weak voice, "Lu Xiaofeng, are you confused from your injuries?"
He lowered his head and chuckled, saying each word clearly, "My injury isn't serious, but my illness is. This illness started because of you, and only you can cure it."
His tattered clothes fluttered in the wind as he frankly said, "I used to get a headache whenever I heard about love, but ever since I met you, a strange feeling has been surging and intense in my heart. I was never sure what that feeling was until now, and I've realized that I've fallen in love with you."
"If love is too ethereal and elusive, then my happiness is only related to you. I'm just doing what makes me happy, just like eating and drinking."
He tiptoed and leaped lightly, tossing the bouquet of flowers into the window, where it landed squarely in Yan Jin's arms.
The intense heat almost burned her hands; she didn't even know how to hold it, and could only blurt out in a panic, "I don't love you!"
Lu Xiaofeng was not discouraged. Instead, he put his hands on his hips and laughed, "Then I won't give up!"
Yan Jin stared intently at him, puzzled, and asked, "Why?"
He raised an eyebrow and said, "Because I am Lu Xiaofeng."
Yan Jin turned her face away, "Madman."
Lu Xiaofeng sighed, "If I stay with you for too long, I'll go crazy sooner or later. You don't necessarily have to love me. Whether I can make you fall in love is my skill. Just you wait and see!"
He suddenly stepped back and laughed, "You wait for me!"
Yan Jin instinctively took a step forward and blurted out, "Where are you going?"
Lu Xiaofeng wiped his face, suppressing the slight joy in his heart, and said with a wry smile, "Go take a shower. I know you would never like a dog that crawled out of a mud puddle."
Yan Jin gave a light snort, and in a flash appeared behind him, saying indifferently, "Come back."
She pursed her lips slightly and asked softly, "Why are you covered in injuries?"
Lu Xiaofeng unconsciously rubbed his hands together, and his heart warmed up. He pretended to be nonchalant and said, "It's just a minor injury."
Yan Jin suddenly grabbed his arm and sniffed it closely, from his wrist all the way to his elbow. His expression darkened. "Did the ghosts in the Sanyin Temple hurt you?"
Her chest heaved twice, and she gripped his wrist even tighter.
Seeing that she was about to head down the mountain, Lu Xiaofeng disregarded the mud on his body and grabbed her wrist. Before he could exert any force, Yan Jin suddenly broke free.
She shook off his hand with great force, and Lu Xiaofeng was startled. His voice lowered, and he said dejectedly, "I'm fine. I've already killed that ghost. Don't risk your life for me."
Yan Jin took a couple of breaths and slowly said, "Just how stupid are you?"
Lu Xiaofeng shook his head. "I'm not stupid. It's only natural for a man to protect the woman he loves."
Yan Jin suddenly looked at him, "Where are your eyes?"
You feel no resentment even though I blinded you?
Lu Xiaofeng instinctively covered his left eye. The pain had subsided, but his vision was still completely black. He said calmly, "That demon has entered my eye. If you don't intervene, you might lose your life."
"It's just one eye, the other one is perfectly fine. As long as you don't mind, that's enough." Saying this, he seemed to remember something, and suddenly said with a touch of sadness, "I don't think you'd mind either."
“You still say you’re not stupid,” Yan Jin said coldly.
She pulled a handkerchief from her sleeve and gently wiped away the mud and scabs around his eyes.
The fragrant breeze kept blowing into his nose, but he just stared into her eyes without blinking, his lips almost reaching the sky in a smile.
Until Yan Jin said softly, "It might hurt a little."
He nodded, but before he could understand what Yan Jin meant, Yan Jin's hand had already touched his eyes.
She found the layer of film and tore it off forcefully along the edge.
With a sudden tug, Lu Xiaofeng's eyes closed uncontrollably, a tear or two welling up from the corner of his eye.
Yan Jin's pale fingertips pinched a thick film, still covered with dark red bloodstains.
"What is this?" Lu Xiaofeng exclaimed in surprise.
He touched his left eye socket with trembling hands, covered it with his hands, and then put them down.
He can see again!
Of course, no one wants to lose an eye; Lu Xiaofeng's heart was practically soaring.
"You knew all along, you knew all along, didn't you?" He was overjoyed, not knowing what to do, then suddenly said aggrievedly, "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Do you know how I..."
I was so afraid that you had no feelings for me whatsoever, which is why I acted so decisively.
His tone was so melancholy, yet his eyes were shining.
Yan Jin stuffed the thick-rimmed paper into his palm and said irritably, "I also need a chance to say it. Young Master Lu runs faster than a dog, as if he wants to grow wings and fly away."
Lu Xiaofeng slumped his shoulders and admitted his mistake, saying, "It's my fault."
Yan Jin snorted softly, staring at the membrane on his palm, and said, "The Pupil Demon likes to parasitize human eyes. As soon as it gets into an eye, it will bite the eyeball. The Pupil Demon's essence blood can cause the eyeball to grow a thick film. Although it is very painful, after scratching it, it can not only repair the eyeball, but also improve eyesight. Don't you feel that you can see things more clearly?"
Lu Xiaofeng blinked; his left eye did indeed seem to see objects further than his right eye.
But that wasn't all that made him ecstatic.
Ignoring the mud on his clothes, he suddenly hugged Yan Jin tightly, nuzzling his head against her neck, and said happily, "So that's how it is, so that's how it is!"
He was practically jumping up!
Lu Xiaofeng is a big idiot, the biggest idiot in the world!
He said with satisfaction, "I knew Jinjin liked me too."
Yan Jin wanted to push him away, but seeing the cuts all over his body, she was afraid of hurting him, so she could only squirm in his arms. "Who likes you?"
Lu Xiaofeng laughed, "You're lying!"
Yan Jin's eyes widened. "What do I like about you? Do I like that you don't shower? Do I like that you're covered in mud? Or do I like that you're covered in injuries? And you even stole someone else's tree!"
Lu Xiaofeng almost jumped up, his eyes widening as he exclaimed, "I want to take a bath, but you won't let me! I didn't steal the tree, I bought it!" Yan Jin choked, glancing at him, and said, "You only have one undergarment left, which you bought with that green shirt?"
He stayed in her room every day, how could Yan Jin not know whether he carried any silver notes with him?
Lu Xiaofeng coughed lightly, "Although I have no money, I have always had many friends."
The saying "You still need friends when you're out in the world" is really true.
In the dead of night, who knows which unfortunate friend's door he pried open.
He lowered his eyes and whispered, "Jinjin, you have no idea how much effort it took me to plant this red kapok tree."
He added, "But I know you like it, so when I planted it, I felt very happy."
Yan Jin looked down at the fresh, moist, and soft soil beneath his feet, and it seemed that through the layers of mud, he could see its enormous roots.
What were his feelings as he endured so much pain and misunderstanding to plant a red kapok tree so far away?
There was a place in his heart that sank in, much deeper than his dimples. This silent sinking in was like the first bamboo shoot sprouting in a bamboo forest in spring.
How can we stop this from happening again?
She clutched the bouquet in her arms nervously, then, as if she had found a way out, she quickly said, "These flowers weren't picked from my yard, were they?"
Lu Xiaofeng shook his head rapidly and quickly said, "How could that be? It's not easy for you to grow these flowers! I picked them from Hua Man Lou!"
The way he shook his head was like a dog that had just climbed out of a mud pit and was trying to shake its fur, which was incredibly cute.
Yan Jin was amused by him, her eyes seemingly filled with gold as she laughed.
Even though he had covered her in mud, she was still oblivious and kept wiping his face.
"Fool."
