Chapter 103 Guard

Chapter 103 Guard

When she was twelve years old, Yun Chen buried her mother with her own hands and resolutely left the place she didn't want to call "home".

That day when it rained heavily, the most terrifying and helpless day, when she watched helplessly as the rain and mud soiled her mother's body, but she was unable to use her small body to shield her mother.

The benefactor wearing the plum blossom and broken moon jade pendant descended from the sky like a god, and asked the servants beside him to dig a grave and help bury his mother.

Before leaving, the benefactor gave Yun Chen two silver coins and said:

"Poor little thing, go buy a piece of cake."

Yun Chen walked on the road, soaking wet, holding the money.

Without her mother, she had lost her home. She was terrified of facing her father's wrath when she turned back, and she didn't want to be the most unnecessary and troublesome person in the family.

So she decided to leave forever.

She thought that with the martial arts skills taught by her master, she would always be able to make a living.

But she greatly underestimated the malice in this world towards a lonely and beautiful little girl.

When the kind-hearted tofu seller taught her how to use a menstrual belt, her husband acted without any scruples. He stared at her with lustful eyes and said, "It's good that you have your period. You can have a baby now."

At the aunt's secret wink, Yun Chen thanked her and ran away.

With nowhere to go at night, she had to sleep in a haystack on a farm.

Accustomed to sleeping in the stable since childhood, the haystack made her feel safe.

A kind old beggar also came to the haystack to spend the night. When he heard that she was all alone, he felt sorry for her miserable life and gave her half a piece of dry biscuit.

The old beggar was kind and friendly, and Yun Chen felt that he was very much like his deceased grandfather.

In the middle of the night, Yun Chen was awakened by a strange feeling.

In a daze, she felt something moving between her thighs.

She opened her eyes and saw the old beggar licking greedily in the cool moonlight.

"Are you having your period? It's okay, I don't mind." The old beggar said, panting.

She was so frightened that she froze. Her mind was screaming to run away, but her body was so stiff that she couldn't move at all.

Ashamed and frightened, she dared not cry out loud.

It was not until the old beggar pulled off her skirt that she felt a chill in her lower body and suddenly felt strong again. She pushed the old beggar away and ran away crying.

The endless night and the long road full of thorns.

She tripped over rocks and thorny branches scratched the tender skin of her calves.

She didn't know how long or far she ran until she completely lost her strength and fell into the woods, losing consciousness.

In the dream, her mother told her to wake up and not to sleep on the floor or she would catch a cold.

She woke up suddenly and found that it was already daybreak. She was lying in the bushes, her whole body aching, her lower body still naked, without any clothes on.

She felt extremely ashamed and helpless, but could only squat in the grass in despair, waiting for an even more terrifying future.

She squatted there all day long, from dawn to dusk, until the huge red sun shone on the long road, and a man riding a tall horse came slowly towards her.

The man was wearing a neat suit and had a long knife slung over his waist. He spotted Yun Chen in the bushes at a glance.

He jumped off the horse and took out a set of clothes from the package hanging on the horse's butt and gave it to Yun Chen.

"This is my son's clothes, you should be able to wear it."

She took the clothes stupidly, stood up and put them on. The man immediately turned around, got on his horse and left.

"Thank you, sir." With tears in her eyes, she looked at the man's clothes and horse with envy.

"Sir, I want to be like you in the future. What do you do?"

The man smiled and said, "I'm a security guard."

"What is a guard?"

"To protect the master in life and death, to uphold the principles of justice, is to be a guard. But you must first be a martial artist, and only after you have a master can you be a guard."

She seemed to understand, but as she watched the man riding away on his horse, she suddenly felt she had direction in her heart.

She wants to be a bodyguard and protect her benefactor at all costs, regardless of life or death.

But she was too young and her family background was unknown. Even if she dressed up as a boy, no wealthy family was willing to hire her.

One family's servant even teased her:

"You're so young and already a guard? Little guard, where's your weapon? Have you ever killed anyone?"

Yes, she had martial arts skills, but she had never killed anyone, not even the old beggar.

She knew she had to find a way to survive and grow up.

So she began to dress up as a boy and wander around looking for jobs, sometimes washing clothes for others, sometimes chopping wood for others, and sometimes carrying bags of rice as tall as herself on the dock.

She would gladly accept any reward, no matter how few coppers it was.

If you have money, eat roast chicken; if you don’t have money, eat steamed buns.

In spring, I sleep on trees; in summer, I sleep in flowers; in autumn, I sleep while eating wild fruits; in winter, I sleep with snow as my pillow.

To say it wasn't bitter would be a lie. At night, I endured a high fever and shivered, picking up broken jars left by others to boil medicine and drink it.

On New Year's Eve, I was standing alone outside the window wearing a torn piece of clothing, watching other families happily eating hot pot around the stove.

Or, you may have your last bit of money stolen or cheated out of it, but have no one to talk to about your grievances.

This went on year after year.

She finally grew up slowly, became taller, had broader shoulders, and became stronger.

She found the "nightmare" haystack and waited for a whole month before she saw the old beggar again.

The old beggar still looked so kind and benevolent, with gray hair, a hunched figure, and holding a lost little girl in his hand.

The old beggar did not recognize her. Seeing that the haystack was occupied, he took the little girl to another place.

When Yun Chen walked over, he saw the old beggar pulling the little girl's skirt, muttering, "It smells so good, let me taste it and see if it smells good."

The little girl looked terrified and helpless, tears streaming down her face, but she didn't dare to struggle or cry.

Just like Yun Chen back then.

Yun Chen quietly stood behind the old beggar, raised the cheapest sword he had bought for five copper coins at the market, and said:

"Close your eyes."

The old beggar turned around in shock, but before he could see clearly what was happening, Yun Chen cut his throat with a knife.

Blood gushed out, flowing all over the old beggar's lapel and dripping onto the little girl's closed eyes.

Yun Chen had never seen so much blood before. Only then did she realize that a person had to bleed so much before dying.

Yun Chen wiped the blood off his hands tremblingly, carried the little girl on his back, and slowly walked towards the city.

The little girl asked:

"Brother, you are amazing. What do you do?"

Yun Chen replied:

"I am a guard. I protect my master in life and death. I protect the clear and bright principles. I protect people."

The little girl hugged Yun Chen's neck and rested her head on his shoulder. The small tuft of hair on her head tickled Yun Chen's neck.

The little girl said softly:

"Brother, don't be afraid, don't tremble, you are a hero who protects people!"
