Chapter Forty-Nine: The Way of Survival?

Young Master Ou stomped on the big man's face and crushed it hard. The big man immediately screamed in pain, and the scream was heart-wrenching.

"Hmph, remember this: I'm letting you off today because of my woman. But if there's a next time, I'll make sure you don't see the sun tomorrow!" Young Master Ou's icy voice carried the chill of an Arctic glacier, sending shivers down the spines of everyone around him. Who was this man? How could he be so imposing and speak so ruthlessly?

"Thank you, hero! Thank you, hero! I'll never do it again!" The burly man was moved to tears upon being forgiven.

Ou Shao then withdrew his foot, took Luo Xiaoyi's hand, and turned to walk out.

Everyone stared at the man called Young Master Ou, wondering why his back was so tall and imposing, like a king commanding thousands of troops, radiating a dazzling light.

At this moment, Mo Nan rushed back. Upon seeing the scene, he immediately understood the gist of it. It seemed that Young Master Ou, the tyrant, had beaten someone up again.

"Young Master Ou, I'm sorry I'm late. I just went to buy a pack of cigarettes," Mo Nan quickly explained, feeling a little uneasy. Would Young Master Ou blame him for being late in rescuing him?

"You've come at the right time. Go and compensate the restaurant owner for the losses." Young Master Ou's voice was indifferent, as if he thought, "Does such a small matter really need your help?"

"Okay, I'll go right away." Mo Nan felt as if she had been granted a pardon and hurried off.

"I didn't expect Young Master Ou to be so kind-hearted." Luo Xiaoyi looked up at Young Master Ou's cold profile. The last rays of the sunset cast a red glow on his face and body, making him look like a god with gold trim, so handsome that people couldn't help but be infatuated with him.

"What? Do you think I'm a cold person?" Ou Zihan's deep black eyes glanced at her, his handsome face quietly waiting for her answer.

They turned into a quiet alley and took a shortcut. The two strolled through the alley, and in the evening, a cool breeze blew on their faces, which was very refreshing and comfortable.

A cool breeze ruffled Luo Xiaoyi's flowing hair, with a few strands falling onto her face. Ou Zihan gently brushed the strands aside, and Luo Xiaoyi looked into his warm, dark eyes, a beautiful smile blooming on her face.

“You seem indifferent to others, but not to me.” Luo Xiaoyi’s clear, beautiful eyes met his gaze directly. Her dark eyes were pure and honest. She felt that she was getting closer and closer to Ou Zihan and could speak freely. This time, she told the truth: this man was indeed very good to her, impeccable.

However, he is indifferent to others and finds it difficult to trust them.

"Oh, perhaps in your eyes, my material conditions are very good. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and enjoy a life like an emperor. My life is quite perfect. But that's not the case. As far back as I can remember, when I was six years old, I experienced my first kidnapping."

"A six-year-old child experienced kidnapping?" Luo Xiaoyi stared at him in astonishment, finding it utterly unbelievable. How could a young master with such privileged material conditions experience such a tragic ordeal at such a young age? It seems that high society isn't as idyllic as one might imagine.

Ou Zihan seemed lost in a tragic memory, his deep black eyes filled with sorrow as he walked and continued speaking slowly.

"At the time, because I resisted so fiercely, the assailant broke my head in order to threaten me. Bright red blood flowed down my face. I still remember the pain and anger. Later, I cut the rope and ran away while the assailant was in the toilet."

"As a result, I fled into the jungle and encountered a wolf. The wolf chased me desperately, and I ran as fast as I could. I knew I couldn't outrun the wolf. Later, I climbed a tree. The tree was very slender and swayed in the night wind. The blood from my head dripped down my face and into the mouth of that ferocious wolf."

"I was bleeding so much that I was almost collapsing, and I hadn't eaten for two days. I really wanted to close my eyes and sleep, but I told myself I couldn't close my eyes! That night, I clung to the swaying branches, so afraid of falling. I spent the whole night on the tree, trembling with fear, before I finally escaped."

A faint sadness shone in Ou Zihan's deep black eyes, as if everything was still vivid in his mind.

"I never imagined that you would experience such a terrible thing at the age of six. I can hardly imagine how you, at six years old, managed to get through all of this?" Luo Xiaoyi's voice was low and a little hoarse, her beautiful eyes slightly moist. She held Ou Zihan's hand tightly, wanting to give him some strength in that instant.

Ou Zihan felt a surge of strength from her, and her heart warmed instantly.

"That wasn't the end of it. The next day, the wolf was gone, and I was exhausted. I fell from that little tree and a little girl saved me. The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was her snow-white skin, big eyes, and long, curly eyelashes. Her clear, beautiful eyes blinked, just like Snow White from a fairy tale. She was feeding me porridge..."

"Do you know who that girl is?" Ou Zihan looked at her with warm eyes.

Luo Xiaoyi shook her head.

“That girl was you.” Ou Han deliberately raised the volume of his voice, trying to evoke her memories.

"It's me?" Luo Xiaoyi scratched his head, looking like he couldn't remember anything. Could this be his first encounter with Bai Zhi? As Luo Xiaoyi pondered, a bittersweet feeling inexplicably surged through her heart.

"Yes, I felt like you were an angel back then, so beautiful, so kind, so warm. In that instant, you were imprinted on my heart." Ou Zihan's voice was as warm as hot spring water, soothing her senses.

However, she felt particularly sad, simply because it was a memory of him and Bai Zhi.

She looked at him with a somewhat mournful gaze, biting her lip tightly, without answering.

"Do you know who kidnapped me? At that time, I had bodyguards escorting me to and from school, so I should have been safe." Ou Zihan said in a low voice, his deep black eyes looking at her with a hint of resentment in them.

"Could it be someone who knows you?" Luo Xiaoyi guessed, knowing that with such protection, no one could get close to him.

Ou Zihan released her hand, stopped in his tracks, and stared at her with his deep black eyes. "He is my own uncle, a man I regarded as my father, yet he has deceived me!" At this moment, pain spread through his heart.

Luo Xiaoyi met his deep gaze, which seemed cold but held a hidden pain. "Why did your uncle do this?"

“It’s simple, it’s all about money.” Ou Zihan said with a disdainful tone.

“Perhaps, in a family like ours, kinship is a rare treasure, something hard to come by. So, from that time on, I understood a principle: indifference and suspicion became my way of survival.” Ou Zihan’s magnetic voice was low, yet it exuded a strong, indomitable strength.

Luo Xiaoyi just quietly looked at him. The handsome man in front of her was no longer domineering and arrogant. He was like a severely wounded cheetah explaining the true meaning of life. Perhaps, he was right.
