Chapter 214 Clarifying the Misunderstanding

Chapter 214 Clarifying the Misunderstanding

Kong Wange was stunned.

She never expected Murong Ting to ask to go to Kyoto with her, and immediately stammered, "You... what are you saying? The Murong family is such a large family business, why are you coming with me? I'm going to investigate my mother's affairs this time, and I won't be back for a while..."

“I know.” Murong Ting’s tone was calm, as if he had thought about these words several times before coming. “The Murong family’s business has also expanded in Kyoto. Over the years, the Murong family and my maternal family, the An family, have always been strategic partners in business. Many projects overlap, and some key projects are even carried out in Kyoto. I also have to go there often on business trips. My going to Kyoto does not prevent me from continuing to work.”

"Besides, the situation in Kyoto is dangerous this time, so I must accompany you. I can't let you venture into dangerous territory alone, Wanwan..."

Kong Wange immediately found another excuse to shut him up: "But what about Grandpa? He just recovered from his illness..."

“As you said before, Grandpa’s condition has stabilized, so I don’t need to be by his side all the time. I just need to come back to see him more often when I’m resting. Besides, Ranran, Xiaochi, and Xiaochen are all my children, and I don’t want to be separated from them.”

As soon as Murong Ting finished speaking, Kong Wange suddenly stood up.

She was so flustered that she accidentally knocked the cup next to her to the ground.

With a "crack," the glass shattered on the floor.

She instinctively took a step back, gritting her teeth as she said, "Murong Ting, what nonsense are you spouting? What do you mean by three children? What does Ranbao have to do with you...?"

Murong Ting looked at her without saying anything, but simply placed the DNA results on the table.

Kong Wange paused for a moment, then picked up the report.

As she watched, her hands trembled slightly.

This man... actually secretly got a DNA test done with Ranbao!

Upon seeing the final result, she calmed down.

He already knew Ranbao's identity, and saying anything more at this point would be pointless.

She slowly exhaled, put the report back, her gaze wary and sharp: "When...did you start to have doubts?"

"Back in the countryside, when I found out you were Yan Yan."

Kong Wange instinctively felt that his words were a bit strange. What did he mean by knowing that she was Yan Yan?

Did he not know this before?

Or has he really forgotten all about their past?

She thought to herself, a look of suspicion on her face: "Murong Ting, what exactly do you want?"

A hint of pain flashed across Murong Ting's face, but he quickly concealed it: "Wanwan, don't worry, I won't fight you for custody of the children."

Kong Wange's guard remained unwavering.

Murong Ting slowly exhaled: "Wanwan, actually there has always been a misunderstanding between us. The reason I did that to you back then was because I was set up."

Kong Wange was taken aback when he brought this up. After a moment of surprise, she said calmly, "Is there any point in bringing this up now?"

That night six years ago was not a pleasant experience for her.

She only realized it afterward; Murong Ting had most likely been drugged. However, now that things had come to this, it was no longer important to her to discuss who had drugged him.

Most importantly, he did not take responsibility.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Murong Ting understood that with her medical skills, she probably had already guessed it.

He paused for a moment, then continued, "Wanwan, there's one more thing I need to tell you. Didn't you write me a letter back then? I never received that letter."

As soon as she finished speaking, Kong Wange froze: "What did you say?"

Murong Ting's voice was hoarse: "Wanwan, back then, after that night between you and me, I knew you resented and were angry with me, but I was blind and didn't dare to go out to look for you. I just thought that I would apologize to you properly when you calmed down and came back. But I didn't expect that in the middle of it all, the people my grandfather sent found me and took me back."

“The situation was urgent. I had people search for you everywhere, but they couldn’t find you, so I left with them, thinking I would come back to pick you up as soon as I was settled, but then…”

Kong Wange picked up on his words, her expression cold, and said, "I waited for you for seven days and you still didn't come back. Ha, Murong Ting, do you think I'd believe what you're saying? Even if you were in a hurry to leave, couldn't you have left me a note? You said you didn't receive the letter, but if you didn't sign for it, how would you know about it?"

Kong Wange felt a surge of anger for no apparent reason, and said with a dark face, "Murong Ting, at least make your stories more convincing, right?"

Murong Ting wasn't surprised by Kong Wange's reaction, but he still felt a tightness in his chest: "Wanwan..."

He stood up and pulled her close, his voice trembling: "Wanwan, I know you might not believe what I'm saying, but I swear, everything I've said today is true. I never imagined that just a few days would cause us to miss out on six whole years."

Looking at his slightly trembling body, Kong Wange somehow found herself unable to utter any of the hurtful words that were stuck in her throat.

After a long pause, she said stiffly, "Then tell me, if the letter wasn't signed for by you, where did it go?"

At this point, Murong Ting exuded a hint of murderous intent.

"I suspect the letter was stolen by the person who drugged me."

"What?"

When Kong Wange heard him say that, it sounded like a fairy tale.

She found it all utterly absurd and couldn't help but laugh out loud: "Murong Ting, don't you think this is ridiculous? If that's really the case, what is his purpose? He first improved our relationship, and then he kidnapped the letter to sow discord between us. Is this guy schizophrenic?"

“Wanwan, I haven’t figured out what you’re saying yet, but everything I’m saying is true.” Murong Ting looked at her seriously: “I have a few clues. Give me some time, and I will find this person, investigate him thoroughly, and give you an explanation. But in the meantime, you can’t abandon me.”

After hearing this, Kong Wange fell silent.

Although the man's words were utterly absurd, when considered in light of his previous and recent strange behavior, everything seemed to make sense and logical.

How could this happen?

For six whole years, she had long since decided that Murong Ting was a scumbag who would deny everything after he had done his job. She thought he was just playing with her and wanted to avoid her and stay away from her after he had done his job... but she never thought that it was all because of a misunderstanding.

What about her resentment and dissatisfaction over the past six years?

She sat there on the sofa, stunned, feeling as if life had played a cruel joke on her.

Looking at her, Murong Ting felt a sharp, persistent pain in his heart.

He sat down next to her and pulled her into his arms.

“Wanwan, I only understood your identity after seeing your empty grave in the countryside and combining it with all the previous details. I know I was wrong before; I shouldn’t have forced myself on you under those circumstances…”

He spoke with difficulty, haltingly, and nearly gave up several times, but he still managed to keep going.
