Chapter 393 A Surprise for Her
Although Kong Wange appeared very carefree on the surface, she was actually quite curious inside.
What surprise did this man have in mind?
Driven by this curiosity, Kong Wange was taken by Murong Ting to their destination—the suburbs.
Although it was noon, the surroundings were quiet, with only the faint sounds of flowing water and birdsong and insect chirping in the woods.
Murong Ting's car stopped outside the fence of a small courtyard. He got out of the car, walked around to the passenger side, and opened the door: "Get out and take a look, Wanwan."
Kong Wange got out of the car and was immediately stunned by the scenery in front of her.
Before me stood a delicate little bamboo house, with a small courtyard of about sixty square meters in front of it. The courtyard was surrounded by lush bamboo, and on the left side inside, peonies were in full bloom, colorful and vibrant.
A path was paved with pebbles in the middle. To the right of the path was an open space, and against the wall was a small house that looked like... a doghouse?
Kong Wange walked in in disbelief and saw that it was indeed a doghouse. Inside, a small brown puppy with short hair was lying. When it saw her, it wagged its little tail and came out to greet her, circling around her once.
Kong Wange squatted down and touched it. It first looked at her with its big, round eyes for a while, then stuck out its little tongue and gently licked her palm.
Kong Wange felt her heart melting.
Murong Ting squatted down and put his arm around her: "How is it? Do you like it here?"
Kong Wange withdrew her hand, stood up, turned her head, and her eyes were slightly red.
"How did you come up with the idea of building such a place?"
The style of the bamboo houses here, and every plant and tree in the courtyard, perfectly replicates the Peony Residence in Jinzhen.
When she first came in, she even had the illusion of time and space being reversed, thinking that she had really returned to Peony Residence.
But she knew it wasn't true.
The Peony Residence in Jinzhen is dilapidated due to lack of maintenance for a long time.
She went back to see it last time, and it was overgrown with weeds. Because of the mudslide, the small bamboo house could no longer even keep out the wind and rain.
She felt a pang of regret at the time.
That little bamboo house was built for her by Yan Heli and Yan Su. She spent countless summers there planting, collecting, and making medicines. She sat in the courtyard watching the stars, had sweet dreams on that little wooden bed, and also... spent an unforgettable and wonderful time there with Murong Ting.
She had thought that if she had time in the future, she would go back to Shaoyaoju and renovate it, but one thing after another came up, and she didn't know when she would have time to go back.
Unexpectedly, instead of returning, Murong Ting moved the Peony Residence to the capital.
Words like "surprise" can't express how she felt.
Shaoyaoju holds too many memories for her.
Bitter, sweet, sour, and blissful.
She felt a mix of emotions, but mostly a deep sense of gratitude.
Murong Ting gently stroked her eyes, his expression also showing a hint of emotion. He said gently, "Wanwan, Peony Residence is not only your memory, but also mine. It's the place where fate arranged for us to meet. It should be treasured, shouldn't it?"
Kong Wange couldn't hold back her tears, and they finally welled up. She nodded vigorously.
Murong Ting smiled and wiped away her tears, then pulled her into his arms again.
Kong Wange had never felt this person's embrace so warm before.
His faint scent of pine and cypress blended with the fresh aroma of grass and trees around him, making her feel comfortable and at ease.
She leaned against him, closed her eyes, and felt a sense of peace and contentment in her heart.
Murong Ting also felt at ease, feeling the warmth emanating from the person in his arms, his nose filled with the fragrance of her hair. He felt that even if his life ended at this moment, he would have no regrets.
The two of them quietly embraced, and the six-year distance between them melted away in that hug.
A gentle breeze blew, birds chirped and cicadas sang, and the warm afternoon sun shone on them, casting a thin layer of gold on their figures.
After an unknown amount of time, the little puppy next to her whimpered, and Kong Wange finally got out of Murong Ting's arms.
She belatedly felt a little embarrassed and whispered, "My clothes are all wet."
Murong Ting then realized that she had been hugging him and crying, and had unknowingly soaked his clothes.
He smiled and said, "It's okay, it'll be dry in a bit."
Kong Wange gave a muffled "hmm" and turned to look at the puppy: "Where did you get this puppy? It's so small."
It's really small, only about a month old, and a little longer than the palm of your hand.
She carefully picked it up, and couldn't put it down.
“I found it nearby when I was building the house. It had just been born and was very weak. I didn’t know where its mother was. I remembered that you had mentioned wanting to raise a puppy, so I just picked it up. The little guy is quite amazing; it grew strong in less than a month.” Murong Ting’s voice was gentle.
Kong Wange recalled that six years ago at Shaoyaoju, she had indeed mentioned to Murong Ting that she liked puppies, but she never expected that he would remember it now.
She gently touched its little nose with her finger, and the puppy whimpered again, stuck out its little tongue and licked her, then rubbed its little head against her finger.
Kong Wange said happily, "See? It seems to like me a lot."
Murong Ting smiled and said, "My Wanwan is loved by everyone and flowers bloom for her. Winning the heart of a little dog is a piece of cake for her."
Kong Wange knew he was laughing at her, but the smile contained genuine praise and indulgent pampering, which made it impossible for her to get angry.
She just gave him a playful glare, then turned to tease the dog while asking Murong Ting, "Is it hungry? What do you usually feed it?"
"The milk powder is in the kitchen."
Kong Wange placed the puppy in his hands and turned to enter the small bamboo house.
The room was a complete replica of the Shaoyao Residence, and she easily found the kitchen, where she found dog formula in the upper cabinet.
Murong Ting followed them in, carrying the puppy.
Seeing her expertly preparing formula for the dog, I just stood by the door watching her without saying a word.
Kong Wange turned to look at him.
Backlit, the man's face was hidden in the shadows, only his strong, three-dimensional outline could be seen, but just standing there, he inexplicably made people feel safe and secure.
She placed the prepared formula by the door: "Okay, put it down and let it drink."
Murong Ting grunted in agreement and put the dog down.
The puppy's eyes lit up the moment it saw the milk powder. It waddled over and started slurping it down.
Kong Wange watched with delight and turned to ask him, "Does it have a name?"
Murong Ting shook his head: "I'm waiting for you to get up."
"I'll get him, but I need to think about it carefully..." Kong Wange pretended to be deep in thought, and after a while she spoke: "How about, how about calling him Gou Dan? Er Mao or Da Huang?"
Murong Ting: "..."
