Chapter 398 Ancestor Worship
"Tomorrow is the Wen family's annual ancestral worship day. People from both the acupuncture and medicine departments will be there. You can seize the opportunity to bring up the topic of taking over the pharmacy from the acupuncture department. Under the watchful eyes of everyone, I bet Wen Zhengning definitely won't just make up an excuse to get rid of you."
"Furthermore, over the years, there are still some people in the acupuncture lineage who are not convinced of Wen Zhengning's position as the head of the family. If you can make Wen Zhengning suffer a setback, these people will still support you to some extent," Murong Ting said slowly.
His words made Kong Wange fall into deep thought. After a while, she nodded: "It is indeed a good opportunity. Now I know what to do."
Murong Ting knew she was quick-witted, so he didn't need to say anything more. He patted her head and said, "Alright, it's getting late. Go to sleep early, okay?"
The man's voice seemed to have an inexplicable allure, and as soon as he spoke, Kong Wange actually felt a little sleepy.
She yawned and found a comfortable position in his arms: "Then wake me up early tomorrow, so as not to miss the ancestral worship ceremony."
"Sleep soundly, I'll keep track of the time for you."
Hearing Murong Ting say that, Kong Wange was truly relieved.
Just before plunging into darkness, another question came to her mind: How could Murong Ting know the Wen family better than she did?
She had this question before, but this time the strange feeling was even more pronounced.
A strange feeling welled up inside me, but it was quickly suppressed by a heavy drowsiness.
Kong Wange couldn't resist her drowsiness and fell into a deep sleep.
...
At 5:30 a.m., a low-key brown Bentley was driving on the highway.
Kong Wange leaned back in her chair, looking listless, her face still slightly pale.
As Murong Ting drove, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that she seemed quite worried: "Are you sure you can handle this?"
Kong Wange yawned: "Don't worry, I just didn't get enough sleep. I'll catch up on some more."
Today, the Wen family held an ancestral worship ceremony, and Murong Ting woke her up before five o'clock.
It takes more than an hour to drive from here to the Wen family's house, and Kong Wange started catching up on sleep after getting in the car.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she vaguely felt someone gently patting her shoulder. She opened her eyes and heard Murong Ting say softly, "Wanwan, we've arrived."
Kong Wange got up and patted her cheeks twice.
Murong Ting handed her a thermos filled with warm honey water.
Kong Wange took a couple of sips and felt much better. She handed him the thermos, opened the door, and got out of the car: "I'm leaving."
Before he could even take a step, Murong Ting grabbed him and pulled him away.
Before she could react, she was kissed hard on the forehead. When she looked up, she saw the man's focused gaze: "Remember to miss me."
Kong Wange was fully alert, her ears turning a barely perceptible red: "I know, there's no time, put me down quickly."
Seeing her shyness, Murong Ting smiled and said, "What's the rush? Change into this outfit."
Murong Ting leaned over and took out a set of simple new clothes from the back seat.
Kong Wange: "???"
Murong Ting said helplessly, "You don't even know the rules for ancestor worship? You can't wear anything too bright; you have to wear brand new plain clothes."
Kong Wange said awkwardly, "Of course I know, I was just in such a hurry I forgot. When did you buy these clothes?"
Murong Ting smiled and said, "While you were asleep."
Kong Wange said "Oh" and instructed, "Turn your head around."
Murong Ting blinked, remaining unmoved.
Seeing that time was running out, Kong Wange could only whine, "Hurry up~".
Murong Ting turned his head with satisfaction. Kong Wange changed her dress in the back seat: "Okay, it fits well. Good job, keep it up!"
Murong Ting raised his eyes in displeasure: "That's it?"
Kong Wange chuckled: "Close your eyes."
Murong Ting obediently did as he was told, unconsciously leaning his face forward.
A glint of light flashed in Kong Wange's eyes as she patted his head: "Good boy!"
Then, he pulled open the car door and sped away.
Murong Ting realized he had been tricked. He stared at her retreating figure, shook his head, and looked at her with doting eyes.
...
Kong Wange returned from the back gate of the Wen family. When she entered the main hall, busy servants were moving back and forth, preparing for the ancestral worship ceremony.
Ancestor worship is a major event, and many people have gathered in the hall. They are all people who have rushed back from various stores. There are young men and women as well as respected elders, all of whom she has never met before.
She weaved through the crowd, searching for her grandmother.
She happened to run into Wen Zhengning on the way. Upon seeing her, Wen Zhengning immediately frowned and said, "Everyone arrived a long time ago. Why are you only coming now? You're just a junior. How can you keep your elders waiting for so long?"
Although Wen Zhengning's voice was not loud, it had its own authority. As soon as he said this, more than a dozen pairs of eyes turned to him and whispered among themselves.
"Which household's young lady is this? I've never seen her before. How can she be so ignorant of etiquette?"
"If I'm not mistaken, this should be Aunt Zhiyi's daughter, the one who was recently brought back to the Wen family."
"Alas, it seems that there is no successor to this acupuncture technique. Zhiyi is exceptionally talented, how could she have given birth to such an ill-mannered child?"
"That's normal. They grew up in the countryside, what rules could they possibly know!"
Kong Wange ignored the surrounding discussions and said calmly, "Uncle, if I'm not mistaken, the ancestral worship ceremony hasn't started yet, right? So I'm not late. Besides, no one informed me that we were going to have the ancestral worship ceremony today."
Wen Zhengning's momentum faltered, and he turned to look at Wen Zirou beside him, asking, "What happened?"
The ancestral worship ceremony was organized entirely by Wen Zirou. She deliberately did not inform Kong Wange, hoping to see her embarrass herself in front of all the elders of the Wen family. However, she did not expect that this wild girl would not only arrive on time, but also be impeccably dressed.
Now that Wen Zhengning has questioned her, she is undoubtedly to blame for such a blunder.
Just as Wen Zirou was wondering how to answer, a pair of hands took her arm. She turned around and saw that it was her daughter, Wen Luoyun, walking over.
Wen Luoyun patted her arm quietly to comfort her, and said to Wen Zhengning, "Uncle, I know a little about this. The servant I sent to inform my cousin yesterday said that she was not at home. I was thinking of telling her when she came back, but I waited all night and did not see her."
Kong Wange explained, "I went shopping with my best friend yesterday, and we stayed at her place because it got too late. But my aunt should have my phone number, so it shouldn't be difficult for her to make a call."
Wen Luoyun smiled slightly: "My cousin's phone number was given to the servants, and she probably forgot it later because she was busy. Fortunately, my cousin arrived on time, so it was not a big deal."
Wen Luoyun stepped forward, pulled Kong Wange up, and shook her hand, pretending to be coquettish, saying, "Cousin, don't be angry. I'll teach that unreliable servant a lesson for you later."
Kong Wange pulled her hand back, looking puzzled.
Ha, who's angry? It's clearly you guys who teamed up to mess with me!
What a beautiful white lotus!
