Chapter 40 Acting as a Substitute for His Brother Leads to the Discovery of the Poisoner
Murong Chen, puzzled, said, "Yes, it's probably because I slept too soundly and was too relaxed. The virus thought I was easy to bully and took advantage of my weakness. Later, thanks to my aunt, my illness was cured."
"Auntie?"
"Yes, Uncle Lin Cheng only told me after I begged and pleaded with him. Auntie is Mommy's sister. Brother Chi, you don't even know her?"
"Xiao Chen, listen to me, Mommy doesn't have a younger sister. She has already left the Kong family. There are no good people there. They have caused Mommy a lot of suffering. You must not believe what those people say, and you must not have anything to do with them!"
After sending the message, Kong Chi didn't look at Murong Chen's reply. Instead, he turned his attention back to the bowl of chicken soup and fell into deep thought.
My brother has poisoning, not a common cold. He's looked it up and found that his aunt's medical skills are nowhere near as good as my mom's. How could she possibly cure him?
Unless she and Aunt Zheng were the ones who poisoned it!
Kong Chi's eyes darkened, and his furrowed brows mirrored Murong Ting's expression.
It seems the only way to get them to reveal their true colors is to turn the tables on them!
After making up his mind, he got up, poured some of the chicken soup into the flowerpot next to him, and put the other half into an empty thermos and sealed it.
Not long after, Aunt Zheng came over to clear the dishes.
Seeing the empty bowl of chicken soup, he visibly breathed a sigh of relief: "Young Master, please rest well after you finish eating."
Kong Chi glanced at her and said calmly, "I understand."
Aunt Zheng took the food tray and went out the door.
Kong Chi stroked her little chin, watching her back, and then sent a message to Murong Chen: "Xiao Chen, Daddy is always by my side. I can't find a chance to leave. You can sleep with Mommy tonight."
Murong Chen replied instantly: "Okay, Brother Chen! I thought you were angry with me because you didn't reply earlier. Don't worry, I won't be related to someone who bullies Mommy!"
After reading it, Kong Chi's tense mood relaxed slightly. He then got up and went to his study.
Inside the study, Murong Ting was still chatting casually with Lin Cheng.
Upon seeing him approach, Murong Ting was taken aback at first, then stood up: "Why are you up?"
Kong Chi pouted, looking very uncomfortable: "Daddy, I don't feel well."
Lin Cheng, who was standing nearby, was startled and quickly stepped forward: "Young Master, are you feeling unwell?"
"I'm cold..." Kong Chi said, shivering involuntarily.
Lin Cheng felt a chill in his heart and turned to look at Murong Ting: "Young Master Ting, this..."
Murong Ting went over, hugged him, and turned to Lin Cheng, instructing, "Go and brew a dose of medicine!"
Lin Cheng quickly agreed, "I'll go right away!"
Murong Ting carried Kong Chi back to the room and covered him with a thick blanket: "How are you? Are you still cold?"
Kong Chi only showed his eyes, nodding pitifully.
Murong Ting touched his head; it was cool, unlike yesterday when it was burning hot.
But the child's listless appearance on the bed didn't seem fake, and he couldn't help but feel anxious.
Didn't we agree on that?
How come the illness recurred in just half a day?
On the hospital bed, Kong Chi thought about how Murong Chen always wanted to "kiss and hug" him, and said in the same way, "Daddy, hug me."
Murong Ting was stunned for a moment. It seemed that he was really seriously ill. When had his son ever been so affectionate with him?
He went to bed with a pained expression and hugged him, asking, "Is this any better?"
Kong Chi seemed to be unable to control herself and snuggled into his arms: "It's still cold."
Murong Ting stretched out his arms and hugged him even tighter, then turned to Lin Cheng and asked, "Is the medicine ready?"
Lin Cheng quickly brought in a bowl of medicine: "It's ready, it's ready. Young Master Ting, please give it to the young master."
Murong Ting took the medicine and helped Kong Chi up, saying, "Here, drink the medicine."
Kong Chi sniffed it and knew it was ordinary typhoid medicine, so he drank it in one gulp without any hesitation.
After he finished drinking, Murong Ting hugged him again: "How are you feeling this time? Any better?"
Kong Chi shook his head: "It's still cold."
As he spoke, his trembling intensified.
"Young Master Ting, it's probably because he just drank it, and the effects haven't kicked in yet!" Lin Cheng said from the side.
Murong Ting frowned and said, "This morning, Xiao Chen was fine immediately after drinking the medicine."
Lin Cheng thought about it and agreed.
Does this mean that whether this disease can be cured depends on the person, not the medicine?
Beside the bed, Murong Ting looked at his son, who was lying on the bed with his eyes closed and could barely speak, then turned his head and gritted his teeth, saying, "Call Kong Mengjiao and have her come over!"
Lin Cheng didn't dare to delay and immediately dialed the number.
"Done!" Kong Chi was overjoyed upon hearing this, and a triumphant smile appeared on his lips.
The call was answered quickly.
"Miss Kong, the young master has fallen ill again. Could you please come and take another look?" Lin Cheng said.
Meanwhile, Kong Mengjiao, who had been in a great mood and was shopping at the mall recently, was taken aback upon hearing this: "Has she had another attack?"
Lin Cheng said seriously, "That's right, and the young master didn't have any reaction after taking the medicine you prescribed. I wonder if there's something wrong with the prescription..."
The lack of response is obviously because there's no antidote for her!
Kong Mengjiao inwardly grumbled, but still quickly said to Lin Cheng, "I understand, Assistant Lin, I'll be right there!"
After hanging up the phone, she frowned and called Aunt Zheng.
The moment the call connected, she immediately berated him: "Did you give that little brat too much medicine today?"
Aunt Zheng replied tremblingly, "No, it was exactly the dosage you specified, Miss!"
"Then why is he getting sick now? The dosage I told you was clearly just to let the cold toxin accumulate slowly in his body. It would take at least a week before he relapses!"
"I...I don't know either! I really did exactly as you instructed, I didn't add any extra!"
Kong Mengjiao scoffed coldly: "Alright, hang up now."
That old good-for-nothing is more of a hindrance than a help!
She turned around, slung her bag over her shoulder, and headed straight for the Murong family home.
Regardless, since the illness has started, she should just treat it.
Although it was a bit frequent, Murong Ting understood that only Kong Mengjiao could cure this illness!
After waiting for more than ten minutes, Murong Ting grew increasingly impatient, his brows furrowing into a deep frown. He asked Lin Cheng, "The person hasn't arrived yet?"
"I'll go and urge them again right away!" Lin Cheng finished speaking when the doorbell rang.
Seeing Kong Mengjiao's figure downstairs on the video call, he perked up and turned to say, "Young Master Ting, Miss Kong has arrived."
Kong Mengjiao sensed the tension as soon as she entered the room.
Aunt Zheng visibly flinched when she saw her.
She glared at her fiercely, then turned and went inside.
Upon entering the children's room, she immediately saw Kong Chi lying on the bed with his eyes closed and exclaimed with heartache, "How did Xiao Chen's condition suddenly become so serious!"
Lin Cheng stood there speechless. "You're a doctor, why are you asking us?"
Beside him, Murong Ting didn't seem to care much, and simply said in a deep voice, "It suddenly happened like this tonight."
Kong Mengjiao nodded and said seriously, "Brother Ting, don't worry, I'll take a look at Xiao Chen right away."
