Chapter 687 Escaping the Forest of Arrows
The arrival of the men greatly reduced the pressure on everyone, and they all cheered up again.
After a while, all the arrows in the mechanism were finally fired.
Qin Feng and his group breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at the broken arrows scattered on the ground, they all collapsed to the ground, exhausted.
It seems that many years ago, someone had come to explore this ancient tomb by chance, and may have been like them, accidentally entering a maze and encountering a ghost wall, so they left a mark on the way.
However, they ultimately failed to escape and entered this trap, where they all perished.
Fortunately, these predecessors helped consume some of the mechanical arrows; otherwise, they would all have perished here today.
After tidying himself up slightly, Qin Feng secretly glanced at the man and asked Kong Wange, "Your friend?"
Kong Wange shook her head silently.
Qin Feng's eyes fell into deep thought. He stood up and walked forward, standing in front of the middle-aged man. He asked probingly, "My name is Qin Feng. I am extremely grateful for your help just now. May I ask your honorable name, senior? Are you also here to search for treasure?"
This person was willing to help them, so he definitely wasn't a member of the Tang family. But Qin Feng was still a little wary of such a strange man suddenly appearing in this place.
The man sensed his probing but ignored it, saying in a deep voice, "You're so young, yet you're quite cunning. Stop with the nonsense, or the walls will be closing."
Qin Feng paused, then turned his head and discovered that, as expected, the two walls were moving inch by inch toward the center, clearly in an attempt to merge together!
"Holy crap!!" Hou Kai was on the verge of collapse: "How can this wall move so easily?! Boss, is that how that stone pillar disappeared? We weren't shot to death, but we're not going to be crushed to death, are we?!"
Qin Feng took a deep breath and slashed directly at the wall with his knife, but he didn't even leave a scratch.
“Don’t waste your energy,” the middle-aged man frowned. “This wall is made of the hardest marble; even explosives might not be able to break it.”
Qin Feng took a deep breath and turned to ask, "Senior, do you have a solution?"
The middle-aged man didn't answer him, but looked at Old Qi not far away: "Give me the iron rod."
The iron rod that Lao Qi carried was a weapon of the Shadow Gate. It was nearly two meters long, forged from millennia-old steel, and extremely tough.
The middle-aged man's actions had already won over many hearts, and the group of young men regarded him as a peerless master from a martial arts novel who would save everyone from danger.
Upon hearing that he wanted his iron rod, Old Qi immediately handed it over without saying a word.
The two marble walls were getting closer and closer, and the crowd was forced to squeeze closer and closer as well. When it became clear that there wouldn't be enough room, the boys simply piled up on top of each other, one on each other's shoulders.
Two of the boys tried to brace themselves against the wall from the left and right, but were pushed and slid by the wall.
The boys felt a little flustered and subconsciously looked at Qin Feng.
Qin Feng frowned: "What exactly is your method, senior...?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the middle-aged man glanced left and right, then thrust the iron bar in his hand upwards, wedging it directly into the two walls that were closing!
The wall closed suddenly at a slower pace, the iron bar sturdily withstanding the pressure from the two marble panels.
"Are we supposed to climb up using iron bars?" Hou Kai looked up at the impenetrable wall ceiling, his eyes full of confusion. "But there's no way up there!"
The middle-aged man seemed to sense his confusion. The next moment, he grabbed the iron bar with one hand, swung it around, and stood on the iron bar.
He then looked up and pressed something, and with a loud rumble, the stone wall above shrank back, revealing a large, round hole. Inside the hole, there were clearly sections of iron grabbers, like those in a sewer, which people could use to climb up one by one.
Everyone was stunned for a moment. Without saying a word, the middle-aged man jumped down, his eyes showing displeasure: "What are you still standing there for? Waiting for the iron bar to break? Hurry up and climb up!"
Qin Feng turned to look at the group of teenagers: "Follow the senior's demonstration, take up the stick."
The boys snapped out of their daze and, one after another, like dumplings being dropped into boiling water, stood on the iron bar and then climbed up one by one, grabbing the handrails.
The iron rod seemed to be increasingly unable to bear the weight.
By the time Shen Li climbed up, the iron rod was already making a clanging sound.
"Brother Feng, Sister Wange, Uncle Gaoren, hurry up!" Shen Li shouted from above.
Qin Feng stepped onto the iron bar first, then turned to take Kong Wange's hand: "Miss Kong, give me your hand!"
Kong Wange didn't hesitate and was about to hand it to him without saying a word, but was pulled back by the middle-aged man next to her: "I'll take her upstairs, you go ahead."
Qin Feng: "?"
His face suddenly darkened: "Senior, Miss Kong is our companion."
The implication is that I would never entrust my own people to a stranger who suddenly appears and whose intentions I don't know.
Even though this stranger did help them twice.
But who knows if he's just being friendly on purpose and has ulterior motives?
In such an environment, he had to be on guard.
However, the middle-aged man completely ignored his threats, staring at him coldly and saying, "Are you leaving or not? If you're not leaving, then nobody's leaving!"
The pressure from the walls on both sides was getting worse, and it was clear that the iron bars wouldn't hold for much longer. Qin Feng gritted his teeth and was about to say something when Kong Wange suddenly spoke up: "Master Qin, you go up first. I trust this senior to safely get me up."
Qin Feng frowned, surprised by Kong Wange's response.
Seeing her resolute expression, he breathed a sigh of relief, then looked at the man beside him and cupped his hands in a gesture of respect: "Then I'll trouble you, senior, please make sure to bring Miss Kong up safely."
After saying that, he turned around, grabbed the iron railing of the upper hole, and scrambled up in a few steps.
Kong Wange turned to the middle-aged man: "Senior, shall we go up?"
The middle-aged man looked at her: "You believe me?"
Kong Wange looked at the person in front of her who seemed so familiar, took a deep breath, and said, "I believe you."
She didn't know why, but the moment she saw him, she felt an inexplicable sense of closeness.
Meeting his gaze now, she was even more certain that this man would never harm her.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have caught that arrow.
They certainly wouldn't physically protect her.
He would never... look at her with such an indescribable expression.
"Hold on tight," the middle-aged man whispered, then lifted her onto the stick and sent her to the iron bar at the edge of the cave.
Without delay, Kong Wange grabbed the iron bar and climbed up.
The moment she climbed up, the lowered iron bar suddenly snapped, and the two doors slammed shut with incredible speed!
"senior!"
Kong Wange exclaimed in surprise as she looked down.
The middle-aged man seemed to have anticipated this moment. He lightly touched the ground with his feet, then leaped up and grabbed the iron railing.
In a few steps, he and Kong Wange climbed up together.
