Chapter 7 From Underachiever Son to Top Student
After Lin Cheng left, Murong Ting got up and walked to the French windows.
The old man's health is deteriorating, so finding the cicada's skin is of utmost urgency.
His mind raced, and after a moment, Murong Ting frowned, as if something... wasn't quite right.
It seems like there's been no movement in my son's room for quite a while.
Every time I ask him to do his homework, he cries and screams. Why is he so quiet this time?
Don't be bottling up some bad idea again.
He turned and strode out of the study.
I walked all the way to the room, but didn't hear a sound.
Murong Ting's ominous premonition grew stronger.
When he reached the door, he took a deep breath and pushed it open.
I could see my son writing furiously in the room!
Murong Ting: "???"
He wasn't faking illness, he wasn't crying or screaming, he was actually... quietly doing his homework?
He walked over in surprise and saw Kong Chi push the workbook in his hand away and shake his head.
Murong Ting understood immediately; sure enough, the pretense couldn't last more than ten minutes.
“I know these things are difficult for you, but you can’t always run away from them. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask me,” Murong Ting said earnestly.
Kong Chi looked at him in surprise: "This is the most basic textbook knowledge, where is the difficulty?"
"Where did they pick up these bad habits, and even learn to talk big?"
Murong Ting angrily opened the workbook, but in the next moment, all his words caught in his throat.
Every page of the workbook was filled with neatly written answers.
There wasn't a single typo in his classical poetry and lyric writing.
Murong Ting was shocked.
This was written by... his academically challenged son?!
Seeing Murong Ting's shocked expression, Kong Chi felt even more sorry for this uncle.
How much hardship must one have endured in reality to lower their expectations for their child so much!
It took Murong Ting a long time to recover from his shock.
He let out a sigh of relief, his expression unusually gentle: "You wrote all of this yourself, you didn't copy the answers?"
Kong Chi's expression was indescribable.
Copying answers...
Is this uncle insulting his intelligence?
After asking the question, Murong Ting realized it was unnecessary, as he had already torn out the answers in the appendix at the back of the workbook.
He was happy; after so many years, he finally saw his son getting the hang of his studies, which was a welcome improvement no matter how you looked at it.
He nodded in satisfaction and said, "There are still a few more books here. Since you're in good shape, let's finish them all together. After you finish, you're allowed to go out and play today."
Kong Chi's eyes lit up!
Being able to go out... does that mean I can go home?
He opened his eyes wide and asked, "If I finish writing all this, you won't lock me up anymore, and I can leave?"
Murong Ting rarely reflected on whether he had been too strict with his child, so much so that such a small favor made him so happy.
He nodded and said, "Okay, as long as you finish writing, I'll set you free tonight."
Without a word, Kong Chi continued writing furiously! (_)
Sigh, this uncle is so pitiful. I hope he writes as much as he can to cheer him up.
He needed to hurry home after he finished writing.
Otherwise, Mommy will worry.
...
The twenty-sixth floor is downstairs.
Murong Chen sat at the dining table, watching Kong Wange busy in the kitchen like a lovesick fool, somewhat reluctant to ask about the dog-reporting incident and ruin such a pleasant atmosphere.
Wow, Mommy is really amazing.
That yam was just a long, thin piece, and in the blink of an eye it turned into yam puree!
The shredded radish is chopped so finely!
Waaah, Mommy can wrap two wontons in one hand! She's so skillful!
Soon, four dishes and a soup were served.
Upon seeing this dish, Murong Chen was so moved that tears involuntarily streamed down his face. (°°)
This isn't just the smell of food; it's the smell of Mommy's love.
But... why are they all vegetarian dishes?
Has Mommy had a hard time all these years, unable to afford meat?!
Waaaaah, Mommy is so pitiful.
"What are you thinking about, baby? Eat." Seeing that her son wasn't touching his chopsticks, Kong Wange ladled out a bowl of radish soup and placed it next to him.
Kong Chi has never liked meat since he was a child, and Kong Ran, who is not in good health, also prefers bland food.
Over the years, she has gotten used to cooking more vegetarian dishes.
"Mommy, I want one too," Kong Ran said, pouting.
Mommy?
Murong Chen's mind immediately went into overdrive.
What? This whistleblower dog is also Mommy's child?
No wonder... Mommy hasn't come to see me all these years, it must be because she stole Mommy away!
But is she as good at video games as he is?
Does she have his tenderness?
Is she as cute as him?
Okay, she is a bit cuter than me.
Even so, she couldn't compete with him for Mommy's affections.
Murong Chen grew angrier the more he thought about it.
Without a second thought, she placed the plate of mushrooms next to Kong Ran, saying, "Why drink soup? You eat this, it's delicious!"
But I couldn't help feeling secretly pleased; shiitake mushrooms are the most terrifying food in the world!
Neither he nor his father liked it, so he didn't believe she could eat it.
Unexpectedly, the next second, Kong Ran stuffed a mushroom into her mouth with her chopsticks, looking touched: "Waaah, Xiao Chichi is so thoughtful, she knows that I like mushrooms the most."
As she spoke, she turned her head and gave Murong Chen a quick kiss!
