Chapter Thirty-One: The Princess Cried

In the dim candlelight, Shang Xiye's features were as dark as ink, and his thin lips, like white tea in April, were like spring sunshine when he closed them tightly, and like a magnificent scene when he parted them slightly. Every line on his chiseled face was just right; adding a bit more would make him too seductive, and subtracting a bit would make him too masculine.

Ji Fengyao wasn't amazed by his unparalleled good looks; rather, she was all too familiar with that face!

That’s clearly the face of her devilish, flamboyant, and unreliable master!

If it weren't for the fact that the two people's personalities and ways of doing things were completely different, she would have mistaken it for her master teasing her again!

Master, Master...

Ji Fengyao whispered in her heart, her eyes stinging with tears as memories flooded back: Although her master was unreliable and insisted on refining the Time-Freezing Pill for no reason, resulting in a mistake that caused the furnace to explode and kill her, and also poisoned her with the Time-Freezing Pill, causing her to die before the age of twenty in every reincarnation, she never resented him.

It was her master who rescued her from the snow as an infant; it was her master who cared for her tenderly and taught her alchemy. In the twenty years they spent together, he treated her exceptionally well. All she could remember was his smiling, radiant appearance, as beautiful as spring.

The alchemy furnace shattered into pieces that day. I wonder if he is alright, or if he feels guilty and saddened by her death.

She misses him terribly.

The next day.

When Shang Xiye woke up, she felt something on her face. When she reached out and touched it, she found it was some fine, fresh herbal fragments.

"Your Highness, the Princess Consort personally carried a torch last night to find these herbs for you. She instructed you not to remove them and to keep applying them until the swelling on your face subsides," Wu Zhong's voice came quietly from the shadows.

"knew."

Inside the light gauze curtains within Shang Xiye's sight, Ji Fengyao lay fully clothed, fast asleep, unconsciously lowering her voice slightly.

Donning a black veil and bamboo hat, Shang Xiye, along with Wuying and Wuhen, arrived at the main hall of the courtyard house.

Wu Ying presented the letter that had been delivered by carrier pigeon that morning. Seeing that Shang Xiye was reading it intently, she whispered, "Your Highness, I believe that the Princess Consort is sincere towards you. I heard from Wu Shang that after Your Highness fell asleep last night, the Princess Consort stayed by your side for a long time, and even..."

When Shang Xiye heard the pause, he looked up from the letter at Wuying, who rarely spoke and was hesitant.

"The princess is crying," Wuying hurriedly finished speaking.

Shang Xiye's gaze trembled as she looked at the letter, her eyes shimmering with light, and her usually calm heart began to flutter.

"Your Highness, should we... send some people to protect the Princess?"

"No need."

Shang Xiye rejected Wuying's suggestion again, his voice low and emotionless, giving off a cold and aloof feeling.

Wuying and Wuhen exchanged a glance, feeling utterly puzzled.

Before last night, they felt that the prince treated the princess differently, even giving away her personal dagger to save face. But now they felt that their prince's heart was made of iron, knowing that danger was coming straight for the princess, yet refusing to send even a single person to protect her.

Wuying and Wuhen silently gazed at the sky; their prince was far too oblivious when it came to matters of the heart.

Let them protect the princess for the prince first.

In order to make their prince, who was as unyielding as an iron tree for a thousand years, finally blossom, and for the prince's mansion to have a true mistress, the four secret guards went to great lengths.

After Black Owl watched Greenie and Tinglan finish their meal, soon after, seductive music filled the carriage, the kind that seemed to disregard men.

Tinglan was already covered in injuries, but she kept screaming loudly all the way. After two whole days, her whole body was covered in bruises and was a terrible sight.
