Chapter Twenty-Nine: Stubbornness

Wu Ying secretly worried: Ever since that incident, the prince has not touched a drop of alcohol.

Over the past five years, the prince has been almost obsessively self-disciplined, but today—these bandits are nothing but a rabble. Even if the princess has superb medical skills, how could they be worth the prince risking his life for?

The moon shines brightly in the long night, the clouds are sparse and the stars are numerous.

Inside the white gauze curtain, Ji Fengyao, dressed in a white undergarment, was fast asleep, clutching a thin blanket.

Suddenly, a sharp sound of something hard falling to the ground startled her awake.

Ji Fengyao sat up and heard the man's extremely heavy and restrained breathing.

The moonlight outside the window was as bright as frost. Ji Fengyao saw Shang Xiye lying curled up on his side with his back to her. Although the light in the room was not very bright, she could still see that his body was trembling slightly.

"Your Highness?" Ji Fengyao called out softly, unaware of the reason.

"Go to sleep."

Shang Xiye's tone was very impolite, and he was even less patient than usual.

"How can I sleep when you're breathing like that?" Ji Fengyao got up and slipped on her shoes, asking with concern, "What's wrong? Does your injury hurt?"

“Your Highness, it’s the Ghost Face Gu.” Wu Shang’s soft voice came from the shadows, clearly filled with resentment and anger: “Your Highness’s Ghost Face Gu usually flares up once a year, but as soon as he touches alcohol, it will flare up prematurely and grow new Ghost Face sores.”

Ji Fengyao ignored Wu Shang's rude tone and was drawn to the description of his illness.

This was the first time Ji Fengyao had ever seen the Ghost Face Gu, which only flared up once a year, with such a long flare-up cycle.

This suggests that the person who cast the curse wasn't in a hurry to kill Shang Xiye, but rather wanted to torture him, or wanted him dead but didn't want him to die. This conflicted and complex psychology is very similar to unrequited love.

Could it have been a woman from his household, or a woman with whom he had a romantic entanglement?

Ji Fengyao lit the candles, turned Shang Xiye's body around, and saw that the veins on his forehead were bulging, he was covered in sweat, his handsome lips were tightly pursed into a line, and his face was purple, obviously in great pain.

Noticing her movement to remove his mask, Shang Xiye quickly grabbed her hand and squeezed out a single word through gritted teeth, "No."

This man, even at a time like this, is still thinking about saving face.

Ji Fengyao was convinced, but when she met his clear, pleading eyes, the words she wanted to use to mock him turned soft and changed as she said, "Medicine requires observation, listening, questioning, and palpation. I need to examine your symptoms before I can prescribe the right medicine."

Shang Xiye held onto her hand tightly; he understood these principles perfectly well.

But he himself dared not look at his face anymore.

"Alright, although I'm a sucker for good looks, I promise I won't look down on you." Receiving his distrustful look, Ji Fengyao said helplessly, "Haven't you heard the saying 'a woman follows her husband wherever he goes'? Now that I've married you, even if you're as ugly as a demon, I'm still your wife. Why should there be so many taboos between husband and wife?"

Who said they would divorce him in four years and find someone else to love?

Shang Xiye was in so much pain that he felt dizzy and lightheaded, but he wouldn't let go. He would rather endure the pain than believe her nonsense.

Faced with Shang Xiye's stubbornness, Ji Fengyao could only sigh helplessly.

The Ghost Face Gu looks no different from ordinary sores in normal times; its true nature can only be seen when it flares up.

Moreover, it grows on the face, very close to the brain.

She had just come from Earth in the 21st century, and no one in this world understood the importance of the brain to humanity better than her. Once the Gu poison entered the brain and caused brain damage, the consequences would be irreversible, and even if she had divine powers, she wouldn't be able to save him.

A sudden inspiration struck me.

Ji Fengyao suddenly leaned down and pressed her soft lips against Shang Xiye's lips, which were pressed into a thin line.

Shang Xiye's eyes widened suddenly, and he gripped her hand even tighter.
