"Shut up!" Black Owl roared.
This guy is so indiscriminate, he dares to say the most outrageous things!
"No, am I wrong?" Ji Fengming continued rambling incoherently, "If it weren't for the extraordinary relationship between you and my brother-in-law, and if my brother-in-law weren't truly an outstanding person, I would actually have supported you in competing with him..."
"Stop talking nonsense, or I'll rip out your tongue and tear your mouth apart!"
Enraged, Black Owl smashed the wine jar, lunged forward, grabbed Ji Fengming by the collar, lifted him several feet off the cliff, and pressed him against a pine tree at the edge of the woods behind the cliff.
"Hey, hey, I was just saying it casually, why are you so angry? That wine was purified by me personally. Even if you can't finish it, don't waste it." Ji Fengming pushed away Hei Xiao's hand, which was gripping his, without any panic. "Besides, I've always been like this with my mouth. I never hold back when I speak, you know that. In a few days, I might just kick the bucket in the Northwest. You can collect my body then, and we can tear it apart later. Anyway, I won't feel any pain then."
The phrase "I didn't feel pain back then" was like a sharp sword, piercing Black Owl's heart.
Suddenly, a jumble of chaotic images flooded his mind: he couldn't quite make out what they were, but he knew that there was blood in every frame.
There was a lot of blood everywhere you looked!
"It's okay, I can't feel any pain..."
Whose voice is that?
So weak, on the verge of death, yet the words of comfort he uttered were sharper than any blade in the world.
Black Owl's head was throbbing with pain. One hand was still clutching Ji Fengming's clothes, while the other hand couldn't help but be raised to rub his temples. His handsome brows were furrowed in anger, and his thin lips were pressed tightly together as he endured the pain.
"Black Owl, what's wrong with you?" Ji Fengming noticed that he seemed off and stopped joking.
The voice of reality pulled Black Owl back from his state of painful obsession.
"Let's go to the Northwest!" He looked up at Ji Fengming and blurted out instinctively, "I'll go with you to the Northwest!"
"Wow, Brother Hei, you've finally come to your senses!" Ji Fengming exclaimed with delight.
The boy under the moonlight smiled brightly.
"I'll only go to the battlefield with you, not fight for you or kill enemies," Black Owl said irritably, throwing him aside with a hint of regret.
He didn't understand what was wrong with him lately; his mind kept filled with things that were unfamiliar and incomprehensible.
He wanted to ask Xiao Yao'er for help, but for some reason, he didn't want anyone else to know.
"I never intended for you to help me kill enemies. Just keep me alive, that's all I needed," Ji Fengming said, sticking to Hei Xiao like a leech. He reached out and hooked his hand around Hei Xiao's thick skin. "Actually, I'm quite afraid of pain and death. I'm only telling you this because we're close. You're not allowed to tell anyone else."
Black Owl: "..."
You're afraid of pain and death, yet you still insist on running to the battlefield. You're truly one of the most bizarre people in the world.
"Brother Hei, what are you afraid of?" Ji Fengming thought they should exchange shortcomings, so he casually asked.
Black Owl was stunned. What was he afraid of?
He feared that the future held no light and that his life would be devoid of warmth.
Black Owl didn't answer, and Ji Fengming didn't necessarily need an answer, so he fetched another pot of wine for him.
The two drank until nearly dawn before returning home, slightly tipsy.
When Black Owl climbed over the wall into the backyard of the Ninth Prince's mansion, he encountered a masked man in black from afar. The man was moving with exceptional agility and skill, sneaking out of the mansion without alerting any of the guards!
